Your plans to pair Incredible with car stereo

Im not sure why you have Sirius, but I'm in the same boat. I am leaning away from Sirius with what is appearing to be the retiring of Howard. Although with Bubba building a larger studio, they both may be going to podcast, just like adam. Which there are apps to download podcasts to your phone already. For me I think Sirius wore out its welcome by screwing with Bubba and Howard. Who wants to listen to Martha Stewart and Oprah anyway?!!!

I have Sirius because I don't like fiddling with the radio on longer road trips and I live in a mountainous area where "up" is usually clear, but line of sight to terrestrial stations is obscured. I like to be able to put on a station and listen without commercials, fading, etc. I was never a big fan of Howard, but I mostly listen to music, BBC News, the Comedy stations, and Football when the season is appropriate.

I'm willing to try switching over to a new service or getting the android app when it's released ( SIRIUS|XM on Android ).

I suppose it's different strokes, but I don't own much music thus making that cost too high and I've never had a smart phone before to stream music from free services, so I have to do a bit of testing before I get rid of my tried and true Sirius solution.

I've been going back and forth on this... I thought about getting one of those bluetooth audio receivers and plugging it into the line-in in my vehicles. But that's one more piece of kit to fail or fiddle with.

Does anybody know if the USB port also supports audio line-out like it does on my old HTC Touch? If so, and they make a car dock that charges the phone and provides line-out through one connector, that's what I'll do.

Bluetooth is a terrible decision for audio on your car speakers, if you care about sound quality at all. :)

Worse than an analog connection? I despise using a headphone jack for audio input on a secondary device because of the distortion introduced by the D/A converter and the in-line amplifier. Besides, I have the same set up as you that allows ipod or line-in integration to my factory head unit. You're converting digital to analog, amplifying the signal based on the volume setting on the phone, and then converting the analog signal back to digital to input the signal to your head unit. Makes me dizzy just thinking about all the slop introduced along that path.

That's a good point about the charging. If you need to plug it in anyway for charging, then is sort of defeats the purpose to have BT, unless you really want to do hands free calling through your stereo and not the phone itself while it is in the car dock. I guess hands free would be cool with your stereo on shorter everyday trips, so you could leave the phone in your pocket, holster, etc.

Not really. Now you're talking about wires plugged into the side AND the top of the phone which would be awkward holding it or putting it in a car mount. The fewer connections, the better. Really, power should be the only thing you need to plug the phone in for.

Bah, if you think you're doing any critical listening in the car anyway, I've got a bridge to sell you. :)

no its not, it sounds just fine on my pioneer unit, better than the radio stations most of the time. sure its not gonna be cd or mp3 direct line quality but it doesnt suck by any means

i ordered the motorola bluetooth visor mounted unit (motorokr t505) based on its good reviews and price ($66 from amazon). agree that it will probably depend on the quality of the fm station. very hopefull that streaming pandora works well (as well as taking calls)...

does anyone know if you can voice dial outbound calls using this device?

My stock deck on my '08 Nissan Altima has a 3.5 AUX, so I use that. It works fantastic for music and it also doubles as a hands free unit when I put a call on speaker phone while it is connected.

I bought an Auxiliary cable from best buy for like $7, and plug one end into my phone, and the other end into the AUX output in my car, and music, ringtones, movies, youtube, navigation, etc, all play through my car speakers.

I'm not sure what to do with the Mazda. It has a humungous stereo with six-cd changer, and it is really expensive to replace with an aftermarket model. Unfortunately, it doesn't have even an aux or usb port in the front (surprising for a 2006). I

I have an '05 Mazda 3, with the six disk changer, i was looking up bluetooth install kits, and its $120 plus install price for the cheapest one. i was told i could get a cable hooked up to the Tape/MD button and ran through the dash, im sure that would be a lot cheaper. but its wired! so IDK i want my phone to play music through my nice steareo

Fellow Mazda dudes. I have an '06 Mazda6. I've been using an FM transmitter for 3 years, and it sucks. I've recently looked into installing an AUX port. There are a few options out there for installing a device that allows you to have 1-2 sets of RCA inputs. From there you can plug any audio source into a stereo jack-RCA cable. You have to take your stereo out of the dash to install the device, then put it back together. I've found solutions for $60-80.

I think it will be worth it to improve the quality over FM transmitters, which suck, especially in metropolitan areas.

I will probably be going with a ProClip device to mount the Incredible in the car. Just received the following from the company after asking when they would have an adapter available.

Hello XXX,

Yes, we expect to have holders for this device available in early June. You will be notified by e-mail as soon as we have the holders in stock.

Im pretty sure you can buy an RCA to 3.5MM head phone jack for like $8, hook it up to your Tape/MD button, and run it through somewhere, but im not %100 sure on this.

I don't know what you are talking about when you say "Tape/MD" button, but I don't have an AUX input, and there isn't one on the back of the head unit. That is why you have to buy the adapter kit that hooks into the 16 pin connector in back.

Awesome I've been a ProClip customer since 2004, they are nothing but the very best...

i too would like to know this, i have a usb port on my car cd player. did this get answered?

I'm scratching my heads on this one....

I have a Pioneer DEH-P6100BT. The head unit and INC phone are paired because I can get music. However, the hands-free phone is not registering. It worked on my HTC Touch Pro.

Any ideas?

yes. it will work. and i am excited that you have BT Audio working. currently i only have hands-free working on my 7000BT. i am paired up with the headunit, but i forget how i got my omnia to get both functions to work, and it was a PAIN to get both features working (when my friends iphone BT audio worked, i dug in and got my winmo device working). will try to figure this out in the next few days.

It's weird. On my Touch Pro, I had to go in and manually set A2DP to start and hands free would automatically connect.

On the INC, the A2DP automatically connects and hands free does nothing when I try to connect manually.

My 2010 Mazda 3 has Bluetooth built-in, so I paired my Incredible with it to make hands-free calls when necessary.

Update. I've been using the motorokr t505 for a few days. As a hands free visor-based speaker phone it works flawlessly. Call quality through bluetooth is perfect, it announces the number of incoming calls, etc.

Haven't made a final judgment on the FM out. Was staticky at first, but then I got a new station and it worked great - was able to stream Pandora and it came through as well as a good FM station. I'll have to do more testing driving around town to see whether using FM is a hassle (changing stations frequently). Also, with battery life on the phone being an issue, not sure I'll stream as much as I planned. Not sure if keeping the phone plugged in provides more juice than gets used up streaming music...

Either way, I think I'll be keeping the t505 since I really like answering calls and talking through the device even when FM is turned off (although the speakerphone on the phone itself is really, really good too, just don't want the distraction of picking up the phone to answer)...

I have an aftermarket head-unit in my car so I Was able to take advantage of the iBus to 3.5" converter. Just plug the jack into my phone and everything goes through the car speakers. Doesn't charge like the iPhone, but who knows maybe they'll come out with something for the mini-USB to do that soon!

I have an Alpine CDA-105 Head unit with Alpine Bluetooth KCE-400BT add on.

Pairing the phone works great. Streaming audio works but I don't get any artist/track information displayed, and I can't seem to browse music from the Radio. I'm hoping for a firmware update to the Alpine unit.

All I really need now is the perfect dash mount for the phone to use GPS. I refuse to buy the generic huge cradles that have been out there for a while, I want one made for the inc. that will attach somewhere on the dash.
