Your Top 5 or 10 apps for your Captivate

TOP APP OF ALL TIME for the Captivate....... drum roll.......

GPS TEST

It is a great app. I run it to see when my GPS will work. I compare it to my Droid Incredible which always get a lock within 10 seconds. The Cappy, well, it just bounces and the bars go up and down but no luck.

Toggle Google- A must for anyone who use Google Voice. Allow you to toggle between making calls with: GV only, Cell phone only, GV only for international call, and Ask before call.
.

Where do you get this? It's not on Appbrain.

Long press the home screen

add shortcut

toggle google voice

you already have this if you installed google voice.

Not sure I should post this here as I posted it in another Favorite Apps thread. If I am going against proper protocol, let me know, and I'll keep it in mind for future reference.

I have 87 apps installed. Here are my 9 top picks from those:

9 total, 7 free (77%), 2 paid (22%), 4MB total size, $4.86 total price

  • Pure Calendar widget (agenda) : Very nice scrollable widget. Tried others, settled on this.
  • Screebl Lite - Save Power! : Working well on my Captivate. It's nice to have the screen stay on while workin on it, and then auto go off quickly if not.
  • Shazam : Amazing app. Definitly purchasing. I'm always wondering what the music is that I am hearing. Now I will know what artists I am enjoying when I go to purchase music.
  • Shopper : Love it. Installed it, tested by reading teh barcode on a bluetooth headset I purchased, and ended up taking it back and getting it a lot cheaper elsewhere.
  • SwiFTP FTP Server : Very handy. It's a pain to hook up to the PC with cable and hope it sees the phone. Now I just run this and FTP to it. If doing heavy downloading, such as moving a LOT of music to the SD card, it occasionally disconnects. But other than that, great app.
  • SystemPanel App / Task Manager : Must have app for anyone that is doing any kind of tweaking on the phone, and trying to improve performance.
  • Apps Organizer : This is an excellent tool. MAkes for much faster opening folders than native folders. And Titanium backup uses this to allow you to filter apps easier.
  • AndroMote Remote Control : I will like the app if I can get it to work. Keeps coming up with network errors, but all other network functions and apps work fine when this reports errors. Hoping to hear from them with a fix.
  • Dropbox : Very handy way to move files and have them backed up to the cloud, and multiple PCs / Phones.

[POST SCRIPT]
I should list AppBrain as a favorite. It is what allows me to do that nice listing above easily and see what I have loaded/Manage apps.

Just got my replacement Captivate yesterday and I am envious to see all of these interesting apps. My new Captivate freezes, first when installing, now when downloading. I cannot install any apps at all.

The device shows "Google Maps" in downloads. When I click on it "Starting download..." just freezes until it is canceled.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks

For some reason I was having this same issue when I tried to download apps over wifi, but not through 3g data connection. I couldn't fix it for wifi but I just switch to 3G for app download.

I am using 3G. Who knows, I'll switch to WiFi maybe mine will work.....
Thanks for the feedback, marhodges.

SMART CLIPBOARD

I figured there was an app do this (see below), and this one seemed the most streamlined. It's 3.5/5 on AppBrain, but I can't imagine people not liking the functionality (reviews tend to get diluted by 1 star didn't work contributions).

Anyway, while there's an auto complete in the browser, there are tons of apps that constantly call for the same info during registration like email (my gmail and business email aren't the quickest to type) so what this does:

You enter a bunch of words and/or phrases that with a title (for mine, the title is the same as the clip). It runs up in the taskbar/notification panel, then when you need a word or phrase, you open tap, and the selected item goes to your clipboard for long-tap and paste!

I was actually registering in Yelp, and I flubbed by email address a couple of times which sent me off to find 'an app for that'. Awesome!
