You're gonna wanna read this!!! How you can get unlimited data for $10

Ok so I have this friend (....no, I'm not this 'friend', this isn't one of THOSE stories) who works for Delta airlines, he and his wife found out they could get 4 smartphones on a plan with Sprint for $160 dollars per month (he gets a discount through Delta). So his wife called Verizon to cancel their service and as soon as she said 'Cancel' on the automated service, she was immediately transfered to an operator.

When the operator asked why she was cancelling their service she said they could get a better deal with another carrier. The operator then offered them $9.99 unlimited data plans on all 4 of the smartphones in their house FOR LIFE!!! Now the most interesting part of this deal is that my buddy was looking at getting the Bionic in April (or whenever it's coming out), so if he gets to keep this on a 4G phone, then this is BIG!

So now I'm getting ready to do the same thing. I hope it works for me, I'd hate to actually cancel my service! Lol, I know that some of the peeps on this forum work for Verizon, do any of you know about this offer? Is it easy to get, or is it just something they offer long time Verizon customers who call in to cancel? Should I call and say I want to cancel? Or call and say I was thinking of going with another carrier, unless you have an offer that would change my mind?

I've been with Verizon for about 5 or 6 years now with 3 smartphones on my plan, so I'd think I'd be one of the ones they would offer this to. Wish me luck!

Just an FYI, they dont actually change the plan they credit you $20 per line on the account. You must have the $29.99 unlimited plan on each line to get this deal.

They had an advertised special not too long ago... I simply called and asked them about it. Sure enough, they switched all 5 of my devices to the same deal.

Actually, I either read about it on here or on the Moto forums.

Awesome, so you just called and said, "I want to switch to the $9.99 unlimited data for life plan", and they did it? Do you have any idea if it will cover 4G plans?
 
i work for VZW. im looking in our system and i dont see anything about this plan. let me know if you guys have any luck with this. as i will be putting my girlfriend on it if its true. good luck! this is great if its true....but im guessing its not.
 
I absolutely guarantee 1000% that the story I told is true, the 'Friend' is my best friend from childhood, and his wife is my exwife with whom I have two kids. I know, I know... sounds weird, but it's not like that. We divorced looooong before they ever got together, trust me it's not a bad thing, In fact I just spent the week with them last week in Jacksonville, Florida to celebrate mine and my sons birthday [we were both born on Jan 11th] together. It's not quite the traditional family, but it works for us, we are all very good friends and it works out great for the kids since there isn't any drama going on at all.

Anyways I digress... she just notified me of this about an hour ago so that I could get on the same deal. While I was there I showed her husband how to root his Eris and set him up with a new ROM that made better use of his memory. So she wanted to return the favor by helping me get the same savings that they got. Now like I said, I don't have any idea if this will extend to 4G plans or not, I'm just hoping it does.
 
i would have heard of this. there are 1 time credits they can do and stuff like that. but there is no such thing as a $10 unlimited data plan. sorry bud. if im wrong then ill apologize but i just have never heard of that in my 3 years here....

I don't blame you for your doubt, indeed it sounds too good to be true. And on the internet if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. I'll let you know what I find out when I try to get the same thing. If it works, great. If not, then I honestly don't know how they got it. But they did.
 
She said she was transfered to Verizons 'Loyalty and Retention' department. Have you ever heard of that? I haven't, but being a Verizon employee you might know of it.
 
ya there are loyalty plans and stuff like that that they can offer. but those are normally just a little bit lower mins for a lower price. ive heard of a 1 month $30 credit for the data package....
 
I see. I'm wondering if it's because she told them they were going to get the deal at Sprint. Although that wasn't a standard package, he was going to be getting an employee discount for that price.
 
ok so after a quick talk with my manager she said that she has some customers that were offered that as well...she just kinda took it in stride and didnt really think much about it cuz she had never heard of it. so apparently that is something that they offer. ive never heard of it.

so like i said i would. sorry man. i just had never heard of it.

i will be tryin to get this for my gf tonite when i get home!

Hey guys, just read through the whole post. Has anyone else had success with this?

I want to give it a try in the next day or two but don't know exactly what to say. Do I bring up the email promo or do I say I am going to cancel? What if the Verizon rep that I tell about canceling because of data prices has not heard of the plan just as toker11 hadn't?

Go to the first link I posted and get the number off the pictured email. If you call that number you should have no problem getting the deal. If you call regular customer service they are not going to know what your talking about. The offer is thru the marketing department so you must call the number on the email image posted at the link.
 
I just called, the offer is still valid. However, they said I am not eligible because I have the corporate unlimited data plan. That sucks! I have to pay more for that plan and this promo is not available for that??

Thats correct. The promo is for residential plans only. I tried to get it on my corporate plan and was denied.
 
well it worked for my gf! haha i just called in and said that a friend had received the offer and i wanted it and they did it no problem. you do have to call that number that is posted in that first link tho!

this is why i love androidforums! yall save me money when i should know about saving this money!
 
i have been on this plan since november. i didnt get the email that was supposed to be required, but they gave it to me anyway. ever month i get credited $20 per month per line. however this deal was only for a limited time.

Our household got on this plan about two weeks ago. 4 smartphones. Same price. We've been Verizon customers for nearly 20 years.
 
Well I just called I'm in Michigan if that matters, and got denied was told the deal was for a test market and my area was not in the area. I'm going to try again tomorrow though.

For those of you that did not get the email and got the deal what did you say when you called?
 
I'm on a family plan with my brother, who works for Verizon. He got us this deal a few weeks ago. He said it was just a special then but since we have the deal now, they can't take it away. It's definitely worth a try! Saving us a lot of money!
 
Well, I just called 611 and when you enter a number or say what you want to do I said "cancel service" and was immediately transferred to someone. They said their thing and asked what they could do for me and I told them that I wanted to see how much it would cost to cancel our service (3 lines, unlimited data) or somehow lower our bill. He told me how much it would cost to cancel each line and then started reading through our plan, as soon as he said "unlimited data for $29.99 a month" I politely interrupted him and said "that's what's so expensive, the unlimited data, other carriers offer it for $9.99". He then basically said that it was funny I should mention that because until the end of the month they have a promotion of $9.99 per line for unlimited data that is grandfathered in and he asked if that would help keep us as a customer. Needless to say I said "yes" and he changed it over, the only catch is that all of the lines have to get the data plan and at least a 1400 minute shared voice plan.

Edit: It's the "Talk and Text Plus Data Promotion" only available through the Wilmington North Carolina offices, supposedly any "cancel service" calls get directed there.
