Zenithink ZT-180 1GHz 10" tablet

Maybe, just maybe because you spammed the forum with the same post in two threads.

Just putting it out there.

lol

Folks,
I have had a few days to get used to my zt-180 and have a few general user questions about apps and using the aPad.

  • How exactly are you supposed to play youtube videos? Is there an app for it on slideme or some other workaround?

  • Quickoffice cannot create a document, just open and view one. Where can I get a full version of this app?

  • Should Android integrate with Google Docs?

  • How do you go about getting/installing FREE apps that are not on slideme?
  • Is there an Android instruction manual anywhere to teach newbie USERS (not developers) like me how to get up to speed on the details of the OS?
My experience using the machine so far has been mostly positive and I have enjoyed experimening with the apps and functions. I like the radio apps as they can play in the background when doing other things.

My gripes are that the WiFi drops regularly if I am more than 2 Metres from my router, and battery life is not great. I can get a few hours out of the book reader if I turn the screen brightness down low.

The touch surface gets greasy very quickly and tends to be in-accurate when typing in portrait mode. I have yet to find the screen calibration settings.

Even though the machine was misrepresented by dealers when it first came out I am glad I bought mine just for the book reader and email features alone. The games are OK and seem to be as good as those on nintendo ds.

I bet there will be a whole explosion of new apps aimed at the 10in market in the next few months.
:):):)

Yes it was a zt-180, the screen was shaky, If I got my finger near It it would shake back and forth, selecting a app was near impossible. It would freeze constantly. The version of Android 2.1 was def counterfeit , The device started up with the epad logo, than a penguin in the top left corner, and then a janky ass Android logo. The firmware had the date 08/03/10 in if that helps. Total crap. The resolution was poor. The OS crashed when I tried to watch a video of my son I shot with my EVO in 720p. Complete waste of money.

It's hardly spam considering there's like 10 threads that are basicly the same regarding the zt-180, again you have been totaly useless just like this device. Same old crap, China produces garbage, and you get what u pay for. I'll just go buy an AMERICAN made Apple product, and ill be happy.

Ps - I got my EVO for 179$

Rabidgod,
I think most (maybe all) Apple products are made in China! Just with better material and quality control.
Nobody promised you a perfect equivelant of an iPad. Come back next year when the major manufacturers have polished versions with all the software and hardware kinks worked out. Then you can pay the price(75% of the Apple price) and have good reason to moan if its not perfect.
:D

you mean 75% off? The iPad is a lot more.

And that 179 was just to get you on the plan, where the telco needs to make the RRP back from the monthly and other charges.

Well I received my Zenithink. If any of you are looking for the legit Zenithink model I bought mine from Digital Deal Technology Co., Ltd.

I haven't had much time to play with it but I did manage to update to 0809... here are my findings so far.

Wireless range is terrible but that seems the same for everyone. I'm yet to apply the txpower fix. I was however able to connect to my Nexus One via Wireless Tethering. For those of you who couldn't connect to an Access Point you should definitely try again! Ethernet connection works well

The resistive touch screen is a bit hit and miss (not very accurate at the moment and no way to calibrate it). The screen tends to "shake" a little when selecting an app on the home screen (although typing isn't too bad as long as you press down a bit harder). I really hope this is fixed in later versions.

Android market does not work at this stage but most apk's can be installed manually. SlideME market comes pre-installed.

Screen brightness is good and adjustable via settings in current firmware.

ADW Launcher also comes pre-installed on current firmware.

RealPlayer comes pre-installed and apparently plays 720p and 1080p mkv's although I haven't had a chance to test it.

So far the most annoying part is the screen accuracy. It is better in the latest firmware as long as u press down a bit harder. Hopefully they release another update soon. (see below for update on screen accuracy)

Will review a bit more as I use it :)

Hey n4sa, I've always used a good stylus from one of my previous devices. I'm not sure why they never included one. Probably because they couldn't mold a slot into the device and never wanted to admit that it needed one.

So is it much better with a stylus?? I think I'll get one today.

Go here for update files and info http://www.ibeau.net

Also have info for applying tx patch which gives better performance and to stop it overheating plus some tips to help with the screen calibrations issues.

Got my pad today, and it worked fine, but the battery was almost empty. However, when I try to charge I only get a dim red blinking light, and it never seems to charge. I believe it is the adapter, but without a replacement to compare it to, I can't test.

Hello all.
Now i need some advices...

I have to replace system fonts, but i can't do it successfully.
The problem is that it cannot be rooted, need to be superuser to change system r/w setting. Then replace system fonts with those of my language.

I had tried many ways, but none of them get rid of 'permission denied' when i try to su in the terminal.

Anyone ever successfully root ZT-180. Please advice. Thanks.

I got my ZT-180 from here:

ipad Google Android 2.1 WIFI 10.2 inch G-sensor Mid Labtop Ne...USD217.36 Wholesale Price at DHgate.com

It took 2 weeks but it finally arrived.

I can't understand why people are whining about this device, out of the box it does 90% of what I want.

Wifi - no problems, 128-bit WEP

Touchscreen - minor calibration issue, but no big deal, sensitivity is very good for such a cheap device

Build quality - better than I expected, no complaints for me

compatibility - about 80% of the apps I installed worked great, some did not scale, only the video player '3' completely failed. Stability was excellent compared to my V7 despite installing many apps.

video - xvid/divx, mp4 are fine, MKV I couldn't find a copy of the rock perfect player to try out.

Battery life 3 hours on wifi 5 without, battery meter is all over the place, very inaccurate.

I will upgrade to newer firmware tonight to see if it makes the interface any snappier.

I can't find the google experience apks anywhere, anyone have any idea?

Oh please save me from whingers, especially ones spouting about the iPad in a ZT-180 thread. I found this comparison quite fitting between the ZT-180 based tablet the M16 and the Apple iPad. Posted today: iPad Versus ZT-180 Comparison

James

I wouldn't touch that tablet Jubal if it's only got crackable WEP WiFi, my M16 does WPA2 ;)

how easy is it to type on a ZT-180? on a scale of 1 to 10, compared to a regular PC keyboard? and would it be noisy to type on it or would you barely hear anything?

how similar is it to typing on a regular PC keyboard? i am basically asking, would experienced typers be able to take notes with the device or is it sluggish and inaccurate (constantly fixing typos?)?

Taking notes, I'd suggest in that scenario just use it as a voice recorder. Notes very easy and would be fast enough. Not sure about dictating long conversations though.

Totally agree with your review, seems to work fine.

where do you get the firmware from?
how do you go about installing it?
what version is the new update?

Apologies for the newbie questions....

Hello, I just joined the forum. Great thread, thanks for all the info guys!
I was wondering if this is just another BS dealer, or if indeed they are releasing the Zenithink with the Cortex A8 EMS>Cortex-A8 Zenithink ePad Android OS 2.1 ZT-180 2GB - eBay (item 260648220253 end time Sep-07-10 21:08:37 PDT)

I have read the pros and cons and I still want to try this machine. Can you suggest a reputable dealer to buy it from? I checked Merimobile but they currently don't have it in stock. Also, are there any other comparable machines out there for this price range/specs?

Thanks!

G

I think it is the real deal. The seller is good because he has stamped his own photos gives the real specs. Anyway, I typically get from known distributors as they are normally cheaper than ebay. (if you pick and mix)

Thanks for your response, icurafu. So it's "official" that these machines are coming out with the Cortex A8? What does this mean for the user experience? I am really a newbie on the subject, so I am just trying to learn before I buy.

thanks again!

No cortex. It was originally stated that it had that. It just has ARM11. I hear no plans to use Cortex.

As long as he understands the zt-180 cpu as described is NOT a Cortex A8 but the ARM11 w/GC600ish GPU just like all the others (Zenithink A105, Orphan M16, Enso Zenpad4, WiiPad, FlatComputing A10, ...) as this vendor had passed on the same mistatement and just hasn't fixed it on Ebay to date...also some folks have been pricing these down under the $200US price + delivery more recently...
