Hello all.... I bought the ZT-180 about 2 months :Dago via the United States Wharehouse website. It was to be a gift for my wife!!!! So prior to XMas I made sure it worked and loaded a few things on it for my wife such as Kindle as she will download books to read at work etc etc. So I used it maybe for a total of 5 hours prior to Christmas. Today, everything is working fine and then it freezes up, I try everything, nothing worked, I left it sit for 2 hours with nothing, and I finally used a safety pin and pressed the dreaded "reset" button. Now as you all may assume I am screwed !!!! Let me explain what it will currently do! When I turn it on I get the following things in the order I am typing....ePad screen, Linux Penguin screen and then "ANDROID _ " blinking but never actually boots up. Does anyone know how to get my machine to work again? I am not a genius by any means when it comes to this stuff so some step by step directions would be very, very appreciated and for all of you guys out there that are married you may understand you are saving a few weeks of HELL from a scorned wife !!!!! Please help if you have the ZT-180 life saving information!!!!!!

Don't panic... it's never fun, BUT sometimes it happens that you need to re-flash the rom and start over... I'd reccommend jumping to latest stable 1204 which requires you use the Newest burntool... best site to find all you need is over at Slatedroid...

ZT-180

It arrived yesterday, took only about a week with EMS!
Feels good and was easy to setup WIFI.
I tried adroid market and it worked well for a couple of hours but now it will not download any more? I can browse and check videos on you tube so the WIFI is fine, anybody else having problems?

Also, where can I see which adroid version I have? They said it would have Android 2.2 but when I go to "setup" and then "about phone" and check Android version it says AOSP?
Kernel version(whatever that is) is 2.6.32.9

If you can get 'Android System Info' from Electric Sheep. As you say your market is not working you may have to resort downloading it from their site and copying onto a usb pen drive and install from there. Just open the file and it will install.

Mine is the same kernel version as yours. Although the Andriod version is not linked to the kernel version, I would expect Andriod 2.2 to have a higher kernel version. Have a google about possible it is the same kernel.

Andriod is not the kernel, the kernel is Linux core that Andriod is running on. Well something like that.... ;)

I made a reset and now it's working again!:)
I'll download the app tonight and try it and tell you which android version I have, I hope it's 2.2 or else I have been scammed.:(

Came home an hour ago and tried downloading the app but it won't! Same as before it says "starting download but nothing happens.

Found the app from my computer and installed it thru the usb, started the app and under dashboard it says:

Internal memory:
max 720.92Mo Free: 613.03Mo

Ram
Max: 374Mo Free: 160Mo

But if I go into my device setup/SDcard-device storage I have:

SD card: Total 2,37GB Available 2,36GB
External SD card: 3,79 GB
Data partion: Available space 613mb

There is a big difference?

When I try to go to system from dashboard it crashes saying it has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again but trying again doesn't make it work!

I am getting a bit pissed off that android market only works for a couple of hours after a reset.

I ordered one of these from the same supplier as you a couple of days ago and it has just been shipped. I'll touch base with you and compare notes when it arrives and I set it up.;)

Hi all,

First of all, I understand this is the ZT-180 thread, but I was hoping someone might be able to give me some insight to what the better android tablet is?

I've been doing a lot of reading, and there isn't much difference between them.

I don't have any other android devices so please excuse what might be a stupid question, but I do notice the Flytouch 2 has a cool 3d home screen similar to iPad. Can this same home page setup be enabled on a ZT-180.

Both retail (here in OZ) for around the same amount of coin... personally, I think the ZT-180 is more attractive... i mean who needs a RJ45 permanently on a tablet anyways?? But I also notice that the ZT-180 doesn't have a built in camera, nor does it have GPS... which the flytouch 2 does... Camera doesn't bother me in the slightest (unless i want to check how bloodshot my eyes are) but GPS could be handy... any general thoughts from people on this??

I can't really justify the cost of buying an iPad, and to be honest, the main reaosn I want an iPad would be for multi-touch which I don't believe either the ZT-180 or flytouch 2 have, so it's a toss up between these two devices (i don't want anything smaller then 9" or 10"). I really don't know what to buy... help please.

Thats why I brought mine, wanted a bigger screen than my iPhone but didn't want to pay the rip of the iPad is. Also i'm a software engineer so love fiddling but the iOS is closed to me as I don't have access to an apple desktop and don't want one.

But if you want an iPad the zt-180 or any other cheaper tablet are not as good as the iPad. iPad is the best tablet just very expensive.

You should wait a couple of weeks as after CES a lot of current systems will drop in price to make way for the next gen.

In short, if you want to 'hack about' and customize your system get a zt-180, if you just want an iPad then get a loan and buy an iPad. If you're expecting iPad performance from the zt-180 you'll be disappointed.

Yes do that, I'm curious if yours does the same.:)
cheers!

I made a reset and installed Android system info but under Buildinfos it says:
Android version: AOSP
release codename: AOSP
Under OS it says ANDROID id: 9774d56d682e549c

How do I know what Android version I have?

My battery(I only get 98% charged) time is a little less the 2 hours when browsing the web and playing around, is that ok time?

Can you confirm that the camera is working and is the video quality any good? Will it run skype, Video Skype?
Will the updates from iBeau work on it? How long is the battery life? Does the sound recorder (microphone) work?

My zt-180 was bought last july and is still running ok but the microphone never really worked and the battery life is poor. Also I never got it to work with an o2 3g stick(huawei e220).The battery life is about 2 hours now and wifi is not very sensitive despite the power fix and a soldered extended antenna modification to the wifi board.

(BTW the android market works erratically on mine too, but will download and install apps if you fiddle with it a bit by starting a download and shutting down and restarting if it hangs up)

Camera works but only for photoshots!? Video I haven't got working yet. When I go from photo mode to video mode it will show six og me and when I push REC the six frames of me freezes.
The photo quality is not very good but with some lighting it works but not more.
Microphone works, I used sound recorder.

About the downloading I have two different problems it seems. First when total reseted downloading works and I can install all I want. After a couple of hours I try to download an app again it will just say something like "Download started" but nothing more happens. The other type of failure is that I download an app but after a while it says "Download unsuccesfull" and no clue to why?

I'm posting this for a friend who purchased the above...when he tries to connect using a USB 3G modem he is having no luck; the modem keeps flashing instead of a solid LED. Before I start trying to troubleshoot internationally over the phone (LOL) I just wanted to ask:

(1) Could this be a firmware issue?
(2) Do the USB 3G modems require drivers?
(3) Is there something simple that is very often done wrong or is this something that should be automatic?

Sorry for the newb talk; I'm good with Macs and PCs but VERY new to Android (gotta say I'm LOVING my Samsung Galaxy...my next move is to search this site for tips on rooting it ;-) )

Thanks in advance,
Deb

I just got an email from Zenithink US, they will be selling the 512RAM, HDMI out, 4G RAM, android 2.2 by Feb1st.

I would advise people to hold off as long as possible. I have an iPad and am frustrated with what it cannot do (i.e no Flash), on paper , the new ZT-180 will be a better device.

I really want to get a BB Playbook because I already use Enterprize Server, and I already use a BB torch, I don't want to pay for two data access plans, the Playbook with bluetooth sync will allow me to use my phone data access.

My biggest concern about the ZT-180 is that it is not really supported as an Android device -so the future utility is suspect.

Tried updating the SU Binary but didn't work? says I have to go into recovery mode? How do I do that?
I tried rooting yesterday, says rooting OK but opening root explorer doesn't work, something with superuser?
Android market only works a couple of hours then I have to make a factory reset to make it work again!?

I am seriously thinking of installing the latest 2.1 rom which I think is 1204 or installing the Froyo 2.2Beta, would that work on my device?
Can I make a backup/copy of my Android 2.2 if I fail with the other roms?

Where can I download 1204 or Froyo 2.2 if I decide to try?

Cheers!
Peter

Just bought one of these and wondering if I can get my wireless dongle to work in it as I am away from home and this is my only form of internet at present. How do I do this as merely putting the VF dongle in the USB does nothing.

Since the new ZT180 is coming with 2.2, does this means it will be able to run Flash? or is it still a problem given the type of CPU?

Can anybody tell me if you can tether a rooted droid1 to zt-180 and or wireless tether I read where someone had a nexus working but I didnt see anything on the droid1 thanks

Anybody been able to make the dual boot work? I am wondering if the Media Player Plugin works in the CE mode for streaming video remotely? I am trying to get Remote Potato working on my pad but want the Android side also.

Thanks
