according to everyone here the root is fake! yes kingroot may say we are rooted but were not. Its a glitch in the king root app.

Does anybody know of a different method to create root.
Isn't there a program out there somewhere to check android variables. That we can penetrate

Its just a matter of time that someone will find the loophole.

An update on stuff that won't work.. :)

I first bravely dared to flash the z981 with the Axon 7 bootloader unlock as is without modifying anything through adb sideload. I checked the sha1 and the sha1 of our public ota certs, and it was identical so I figured what the hell.

Fortunately (or unfortunately) for me, it checked the device model under the /com/android/metadata of their bootloader zip and realized it wasn't a match after getting to 30 pct or so via an attempt to sideload the zip file via android recovery. The error message was something to the effect of it not being the kill switch for the Z981.

I then tried modifying the scripts in the bootloader unlock for the Axon 7 to correspond to our device.

The first attempt it ran half-way through downloading the zip before failing after finally realizing the hash was off. (no surprise)

Subsequent repeated attempts failed immediately. (odd but whatever)

I then attempted to just sign the files I modified myself, and unsurprisingly I was met with more immediate failures in regards to the keys being incorrect.

All that to say that without ZTE's private signing keys we are kinda sol. However, if anyone digs up any private ZTE keys from the distant past we do know they re-use them at least for these two devices. Perhaps they have used them for a while?

Nothing is unhackable per say but it can be such a pain in the ass that people give up on it.

Unfortunately, no, there's no real root (yet) achieved for this device.

Lots of stuff has been tried and avenues traversed....I'm guessing a true root will yield a new/separate "eureka!" type thread and this thread will be (mercifully :p) closed-down :) and there will be much joy in the land :D.

Yeah, I was just greeting the new member and letting them know that there's no true root yet for this device (without having to read through all of the pages of this thread).

I've been monitoring this thread in its various forms and incarnations for a good while now...this one's proving a tough nut to crack...you guys will be jumping for joy once you do get root and there should be minimal need for this thread to remain open--but we'll cross that bridge when that happens, no worries :).
