Root ZTE Zmax Pro Official Root Discussion

Well, I guess now that there are so many people moving on to new phones, the Zmax Pro has become disposable in the eyes of many, so people will more likely be taking bigger risks with it, if it isnt your main phone, you won't be anywhere near as concerned about a brick. And while we will probably see a few bricks, eventually, somebody will either get it, or everybody gets sick of his phone and moves on. But I am pretty sure that there will always be that one person, who, for the sole reason that this phone hasnt been cracked yet, is going to keep trying, just because nobody else could do it, and eventually it will be cracked. This may be five years down the road when it literally makes no difference anymore, but somebody will do it eventually.

My Zmax isn't my main anymore either but I'll keep it for if anyone ever has something they need help testing that isn't going to brick it.

This phone will eventually get rooted but I bet if a more well-known brand of phone came out with the same architecture like Samsung for example then this phone would have been rooted a long time ago, any phone manufacturer on a whim can decide to lock its users out, so it's up to us to keep customizability, user privilege and personalization alive with the products we buy with their own hard-earned money.

samsung phones are easy to root because of odin

That's a complacent attitude because you always expect Samsung to use the same thing, therefore Odin is always your option, my point is, should Samsung or any other well-known manufacturer whom always had rootable devices, decide to change the framework then it would've helped to have those who already cracked difficult phones such as this one to pave the way to a quick solution

K I get that but point me to a Samsung phone that doesn't have root

Galaxy S5 ATT variant is still unrootable due to a locked down boot loader. The only time it could be rooted was 4.4.x. Everything after that can't be rooted.

That being said, would there be any possibility of downgrading the ZMax to 4.x.x. to attempt a root that way?

I know some of my questions may make me seem like an idiot, but I'm not trying to be. I'm trying to learn as I go, and as I pose questions, or ideas. Forgive me for my ignorance, but one has to start learning somewhere.

I believe that there needs to be an official 4.4 firmware for the ZTE zmax pro in order to downgrade anyway which the on firmware for the phone is 6.0.1 there would be no way to downgrade because all firmwares are not made the same

Not sure if this is my 1st or 2nd post, but please don't let that discourage you from reading this (and the fact that the only decent amount of development is on here and not XDA where I'm usually at). I've been following this thread around for literally months now, racking my brain as to what could be done to root this bastard. I remember someone trying to obtain temproot by causing a scare by whatever exploit I can't remember at the time, but what about dirtycow? Drammer? I thought somebody had tried stage fright, I'm not certain. But I'm just trying to throw a bone out to anyone and see if they can't turn up with something, I'm not as adept as I'd like to be, but I'm not a novice user, and I have a spare T-Mobile variant ZMAX pro I can chock up as a loss and a guinea pig, just let me know, if this post was utterly useless and I'm an idiot, sorry , my mistake, but hopefully it proves to be useful instead. EDIT: has anyone poked around the axon 7 fastboot/bootloader unlock file and maybe port it to our device? I mean ive seen crazier things happen, and I know they're 2 completely different phones with different hardware, but thinking of same parent company so hey, anything can happen, but it literally looks like ZTE just patched in fastboot onto the axon 7 through an OTA. Just my 2 cents and maybe worth looking into. My biggest reasoning is because it's able to be flashed through a stock recovery.
