So may I ask why were SapphireEx and Sapphiress's Android Forums accounts turned into "Guest" accounts? Those two seemed to be the closest to getting us root. Now without them we are back to square one and this thread has turned into a ghost town again...

They voluntarily asked to be deleted and moved everything to discord. They are in fact still making progress (more than I thought possible) and said they will release it when ready. This thread isn't so much dead as it is more in the realm of Suspended until further notice. No insults or snide comments will be tolerated as per @LV426 mentioned

Thanks @bcrichster and @LV426 for the answering my question. At least the rest of us who aren't a part of the Discord conversation know what's going on now and we are not out of the loop anymore. So what are they waiting for, Christmas? Let's hope so! ;)

Believe me, we'd love to see someone crack root on this phone. Unfortunately the people who had the best chance of achieving it have now gone bye bye. And that is purely because of certain idiotic comments and arguments. Sad really, that people can't work together, and help each other, instead of knocking down the achievements of others.

I haven't been on the forums in a long time so I'm honestly bummed that no progress was made, and being the realist I am there's no why I'm acknowledging rumors of any breakthroughs with legitimate consideration because who wouldn't want the recognition of cracking the uncrackable despite the toxic atmosphere, it's easier to keep your mouth shut if you ain't got nothin, plus you can't miss what you never had so there's no point in complaining. I'm only reminded of why I wanted root on this phone when YouTube ads start to bug me, unfortunately the Xposed framework is running out working modules to block them on my rooted devices so where all headed towards more forced consumption, loss of real personalization down to a software's code and locked hardware, like I said, bummed.

Dude I know... Best phone I've ever owned, all things considered.

Same ZTE, different phone. Root has been available for the Axon 7 for a while now.
I know this, but for them to release all their source files like that is kind of unprecedented since they usually only reluctantly release the kernel (which usually has errors). It just seems promising for Development vs previous interactions (hence @Unforgiven 's surprise as well, I'm thinking). Heck.. maybe ZTE just needs some help to get some stuff ironed out?
I'm welcoming the change, it's much needed for everyone's benefit.

Are you familiar with pgp keys there is a public and private key the public key encrypts it and the private key reads it unless we could get that private key we have nothing IF I've read into that correctly

Correct me if I'm wrong but i believe your statement of facts is true but backwards

Private key= Signing key that encrypts at factory, usually contained in the Base rom ( NOT ANDROID ROM ) in the Board and sometimes protected further by Q-fuses

Public key= basically the same key that is attainable by unzipping an OTA.zip
which is used to read the encrypted hash...
you'll see some files with the .crt or .rsa extension

unless I'm Having a brain-fart here.

Can anyone tell me this?

from what I see right here it looks like this device was out well before December 2016,
so if you were to have it in stock form---> Never updated.
What would the patch level/date be?

I'm wondering if it's at all susceptible to Dirtycow ...
I don't have hands on one of these devices but would like to help.
