Root ZTE Zmax Pro Official Root Discussion

Status
Not open for further replies.
There are no public root exploits that work on the Zmax Pro. Searching for this magical root kit is nothing short of a quest for the Holy Grail or Fountain of Youth.
It doesn't exist.

Just google search for it..

It won't work the device is system write protected. It will take an extremely knowledgeable dev to root this device. Someone like jcase and he's never gonna help us so just keep praying for a miracle and hope KingRoot at least comes up with an exploit that can give us temp root so we would at least have a start.

Can we please get back on-topic? :)

This thread should be about ways / methods / strategies / ideas for (actually) rooting this device.

Everything else is basically off-topic...

Just saying--otherwise, it'll (continue to) turn into the original thread this was spawned from...

Thanks!
While I like your post, I think we are stalled out for the moment realistically I don't see anything on the horizon unless we have some dev that I'm unaware of working on it for us.

Hold on no need to get hostile OK... He has a point the trick could be in the hardware. Small **s but powerful battery it's all screen . U get my drift### xbox

I'm not trying to be an ass about this but the entire reason why the other thread was locked was because of off topic posts. Even if there isn't much to say, there is an entire thread dedicated to off-topic discussion. This thread is for root and it always will be. That's what people are looking for when they find this thread.

The old root thread OP was not keeping his original post up to date and as a result new users would join and suggest using some random tool to root the phone, that had already been mentioned before many times. It just became people joining, trying and giving up, just for a new group of people to join and attempt almost the same exact thing without realizing that what they had tried had been done before and had failed.

Perfect example is Cyanide, he wants to help us out but he isn't fully aware of the methods that we have tried before. He is searching for something that doesn't exist. This thread was made to prevent things like that from happening. Oh well, I guess nothing can be perfect. I don't blame people for not reading every snippet of information about this device, at this point it would be a lot of stuff to go through to understand what kind of situation we're in when it comes to gaining root.

What we should focus on is trying to sign updates with our own keys, or keys from ZTE and trying to get the ZTE Zmax Pro to not reject the update. Perhaps DFU mode would be more promising. I don't know what keys ZTE uses though, so we need to get those first. Does anyone know how we could obtain those? Is there a way to brute force them out of a official update package?

I like this phone and it will benefit greatly from root, that's why I check this post every few days because I'm curious as to whether there's been any new developments. The community has always come through and it's usually the greedy who's quick to voice their grief and have no patience for the process. If people can keep jail-breaking every new iPhone, then every android device should be rootable. I've always gone to android devices because of their flexibility, I hate the idea of losing that, it starts with the small scale phones, and when the trail-run proves secure it will be rolled out to every android device. We need to find the vulnerability early.

Yeah, the selfish people left in August because they weren't patient with this device. Me and many others have stayed in the hope that this device will get root. It isn't looking so good now, but we're still trying.

Take a look at this thread if haven't already. There's some very good info ZTE ota's, turning some verifications off and successfully forced an update. I believe there's some relevant information.

This appears to be only for another ZTE device. I highly doubt this will work as all signed updates are signed with ZTE keys for the specific phone. I will go ahead and try though.

ADB sideload failed. I will be trying the SD method instead.
SD method failed too. It states that the update is not for this phone - as expected.

Can't sign our own updates without the private keys that ZTE uses. However, I found the Qualcomm USB tool and it detects the ZTE Zmax Pro when in DFU mode. Anyone got any ideas?

Click Down Arrow on Top-right then you can change it to English. But that's pretty much about it :( We got nothing to flash.. no firmware...

We do have a recovery.... it's untested and I'm not going to risk it. I'm very tight on money. This is Messi's chance to finally claim his root bounty and make us all happy. Hope he quadruple checks that he ported TWRP properly so he does not brick his device.

I am going to attempt to do a full backup of the system partitions and upload them to mega for the good of us all. It finally seems we are at the end..

**EDIT**
The memory dump is failing. The Sahara memory dump fails and causes a reboot. Perhaps I should try another qualcomm flashing utility.

How can we test for CVE vulnerabilities besides quadroot

Try QPST flashtool

I wish I actually knew how devs make root methods, if I did I'd be working on it nonstop. Can't seem to find any info though.
There's an app called N'Gyens CVE parser or something that (forgive me if I spelled wrong)checks files for CVE. I think we should should Google about this issue instead of clogging up this forum. That def is to me. I'm sorry for the random at time excessive posts.

Why doesn't QPST work? Whenever I connect the phone in DFU mode and then try to use the tool, the RAM dump fails and the phone reboots. Am I missing something? I have OEM unlock enabled. Why are there no tools to flash this phone? Even ZTE stated that they have no official tool.
