Is what he said true? Am I really waiting for nothing? I never lost hope but it's been so long so might as well.
Yes 90% this device won't have root, lg g6 is an example the t-mobile version has an enabled fastboot but lg has removed every flash command from the aboot and ofcourse the g6 has much interest than the zmax pro... some enthusiasts are still trying but there are no many options available to try on this phone..

On marshmallow, systemless root flashed via custom recovery, kingroot, Odin (Samsung only) or accessible fastboot commands to flash have been the only root methods I've seen work. Dirtycow worked on a small handful of devices...I use this phone as a back up and YouTube only..

systemless root flashed via custom recovery
not available as there is no way to flash a custom recovery on a locked bootloader device
kingroot
needs a system exploit which is not available on the zmax , zte is hurrying patching all the available exploits even before google release their security patchs i don't know why they are giving very high interest to keep this device locked more than any other oem..
so basically we are running out of options to try.. the best available solution is the [edl mode] which needs a signed programmer.

I concur.
Maybe a ZTE employee can chime in.
Other than that a software exploit like you said by kingroot. Time will tell. Good luck everyone.

ZTE locking down this device isn't a surprise to me as all oem's are going the iPhone route. It's Why inexpensive phones are more security scrucnized than the more expensive ones?... My only question....

No it will as the days go on there are more and more loop holes that are discovered every day when the right one gets found you could bet on it that this phone will get rooted. Like many people have said nothing is unhackable.

Too bad miFlash doesn't work on the ZMax Pro in EDL tho haven't tried since i don't own the device anymore. Tho i am still interested in seeing if the ZMax Pro ever gets root.
As i said months ago this phone is basically unrootable.

If you like ZTE and want a more expensive but cheaper than most flagship phones, get the Axon 7 as it is rootable and runs a lot better than the ZMax. Only thing i miss is the 6" screen

I'm a samsung fan xD

So there's no way to root yet Samsung pay says this phone is rooted in using a gear S2 on this and this is what it says so root does exist on this  device

I wonder how much attention the Boost version will get and if it will get root?
Also, it's not ZTE's fault we can't simply achieve root, it is the carrier's and probably Google's. With most devices having a NFC chip they don't want it rootable "for security". What better way to test security then on a bunch of low cost devices?

I've been looking at the HTC Bolt and Samsung J7 (2016) which has root and i think is getting Nougat. This is still a good device but it's been almost 6 months and it's time for a new toy.

It has nothing to do with Google. Google's own line of phones are rootable out of the box, and the Nexus line has been known for it's rooting ability. This is almost entirely on ZTE's end. It's not a carrier fault either as many HTC devices allow you to unlock the bootloader at any time using HTCs own tickets. This comes down directly to ZTE. Granted, OEMs are supposed to patch vulnerabilities, but locking down every single access point, as far as even locking Qualcomm's own recovery service, is out of the realm of simple security. They are actively denying root for the Z981.

I believe the phone does have a hidden root. My reasoning why is one BusyBox my second is that if you look at the build prop they did custom tweaks in the build prop.

Call me paranoid, but I am beginning to think the Chinese are using this phone as a test run for some new spying tool to spy on Americans. There is no other reason for them to target ONE SPECIFIC DEVICE with this type of behavior.

If it has root I am sure it will get Nougat if it doesnt already have it. Maybe not from Samsung or Metro, but it will have it. That phone came out before the Zmax Pro.

The axon 7 would have been another non rootable phone until the official zte fire hose was released by the axon7root author.

He has genuinely stated he worked for zte, so in turn they got lucky.

Zte may just truly not want anyone to mess with there phones at all.

I miss the original zmax z970 ..I see three 7.1.1 ROMs to flash.. I sold it last year in April ..only because cm13 was the last rom which was marshmallow at that time.. I wanted a phone upgradable to nougat.. I'm holding on to this z981 for another year. The unknown is mysterious...lol

Wow a zte device goes from 4.4 2 kit Kat ..to 7.1.1 nougat.. no wonder why ZTE hates us messing with their phones..we can upgrade them without buying another..they want $$$ bottom line..

Lies. I went to google play samsung pay won't even come up. I tried to install via web browser route and it says it's incompatible. I don't think you can even install the app in a non samsung device.

I don't know how you install it or even got that root message when root checker apps itself detects this as unrooted. What you playing at, dude?

So if this phone has a hidden root, a suid which only ZTE has access to, doesnt that mean they have pretty much full control over every part of your phone at any time they may want to access it?
