Root ZTE Zmax Pro Official Root Discussion

that's the point. I dont want a similar device. the Max pro is plenty fast and VR capable. If I'm gonna shell out money for a upgrade. I want more than a sightly faster processor. The axon 7,like the zmax pro, is the best phone you can get in that price range. Its only 400 and cheaper than that, if you know where to go. I'm way off topic, but other than @loonycgb2 exploit, there's nothing going on so might as well keep the thread alive lol.

Maybe I would pick one up used but there's no chance I'd give ZTE more money. The axon 7 is very nice but I can't stand for what they're doing elsewhere.

But before I use another 100gb of hard drive space(I have made builds for my Galaxy S3 which took up about 85gb) I would like to know if I should even try this as I'm not really convinced that we will have root

I'm interested into Android rom making, I'll guess I'll try to make my own as well, but we might just get it

I wouldn't see why not.. we just wont have fastboot
Awesome, once TWRP is on there as a safety net. Fastboot is not a big deal. Since there is FlashFire. Heck, Amazon 7" tablets are mostly being flashed & reflashed thru FlashFire. I was lucky enough to have the old FW versions that came with TWRP access But even I find myself just using FlashFire for all my flashing needs. It just works & is very stable as long as you follow simple steps. So I think FlashFire will become our flashing/modding method & TWRP will be our backup. I do wonder if the other two flavors of the phone do include Fastboot, per those carriers choice ? And if that might be portable to the original version.

Heck, I wonder if ZTE is using the no-fastboot excuse as to why it's taking so long to update the original XMP to nougat. I wouldn't be surprise if those SOB's are using that as an excuse to drag their feet.

Loonycgb2, You got any new info for us today in the development of Root/unlocking, etc. ?

can we get back on topic?
The only ones taking this off topic are those that gave up on the phone and moved on to other devices. And are posting here regarding their choice. It is like they are trying to convince themselves that they made the right choice. They won't get that validation from me. They can just go and enjoy there lesser devices somewhere else.

The bottom line is that no matter how much I hate ZTE & what MetroPCS/TMobile have done since the release of the ZMP. The $$$ vs. Specs of this phone. Specially thru MetroPCS's discounts. CAN NOT BE BEAT. Even in the used market. There are no phones that checked so many boxes for under $90 bucks. So even without ROOT this phone is the best of the best in $$$$ vs. Specs. PERIOD!

With ROOT & custom ROM's. It will be the BEST $$$ vs. Specs vs. Customization.

I myself can't go back to smaller screens. 6" screen is my new default.
Back finger scanner is now a must. A front scanner is just not as convenient/useful. No scanner even worst.
VR Support. Extra Bonus.
Compare to other under $200 phones. This one feels solid.
Paid less then a C-Note. For a phone that is fully compatible with just about every GSM network in my country. That is insane. There are tons of other phones that on paper look great. But once you get to specific GSM/LTE bands. You just bought yourself a Wifi device.

For the record I have a zte zmax,zte grandmax,zte grandmax plus,zte grandmax 2,and a zte zmax pro.

As i said, its gonna take a bit longer then usual.

In reality i should of kept it quiet not to hype it up to much, but i felt the need to clear out that this phone is not un-hackable.

We got past the first step of bypassing the blocks, but now we just need to get more info off the boot partition so we can gain root suid.

Nice spread. I am more of a one device type. After someone knocked over my Samsung Note 3 & killed the digitizer. I waited & waited to find a great spec replacement. ZMP was the best over all. I own my daily ZMP. And gifted a couple of ZMP's. And have a couple of backup ZMP's for just in case. And all 5 cost me about the same as single Axon 7 would cost.

No worries LCGB2. Us that are part of different scenes know that nothing is automatic. The hype is more of a release of pent up energy we've been building all this months. And although getting temp root is only step 1. We ZMP owners have been in the Root desert so long. We really needed this to get us thru the next month or months before the root dam breaks open for all.

Take your time, dot the i's & cross the t's as needed. After months & months of everybody just hitting a wall. You where able to break a window. But there are shards of glass all over the place. So it will take some more time to really get inside without getting all cut up.

We just ask from time to time you let us know how far inside your able to see & how are things going. It will take how ever long it takes.

I think they more or less want to convince us that they made a good choice and so we should make the same choice as well.
I don't get why they do it, and every other day someone is announcing how they left this phone like anyone actually cares.

Idk if this matters, but browsing the system apps on my phone I see a system app called RootPA, and it is disabled.

Does everyone else have this service?

392 KB used in internal memory.

Idk if this matters, but I tried a bunch (almost all of the 1 touch roots) and after I found out a while back it didn't work, I had to format for other reasons.

Yes I have it but it's not disable, it's shaded like that so you can't disable it.

Off topic but I'm pretty sure kingroot knows as well as everyone else that this is THE BEST budget phone.#f@#k zte but..... Do u think it's not popular enough or they are as stumped as us?

Can we stay on topic? Like really, we don't need to know what phones you own, what you think our chance of rooting the Z981 is, or who has the biggest stick.

That being said, use the search function in the forums themselves if you have questions as to avoid asking the same question already answered previously.

Finally, I'm looking for ways to pull the boot.img, but I'm not having much luck finding mount points that are rwx outside of ../tmp. If anyone has nothing to do, and little experience with coding, use temp root method and locate a mount point for other people to use. The more people we have working on literally any root related task can bring us closer to installing TWRP.
