Root ZTE ZMAX Pro (Z981) root discussion

From what I read, we might have to wait for the 1st update speculated to get to every zmax pro this week. It's said that if we don't get it this week to call ZTE and they will push it manually to our phones. So far no one's come forward to confirm getting an update. Something to look forward to is the axon7 got fastboot after 1st update unless I misread. We are definitely getting nougat, but not sure when. Let pray we get fastboot with this update so we can " fastboot OEM unlock." Credit to everyone trying to navigate around no fastboot. It's very hard but not impossible. From my dev experience, nothing is created without a backdoor. Great work on all the accumulated information guys. Please keep it up..

I'm still skeptical that ZTE will push nougat to this phone based on their previous support of similar phones. I hope they do but I'm in doubt.

Can you push to sbin? It's likely to not work but if we can get a script with the right permissions to execute reboot disemmcwp then we win. It also disables dm-verity.

I'll try to there tonight... I have time im delayed in Montana on my way to Tampa Florida... Don we have to have su binary in xbin.? Anyways I'll test 2nite... [emoji106]

@Bichofelix where would I'll find sbin, aboot or fastboot in here

I was just on the research wagon and found to interesting reads. I literally just found it and had to report. Nougat on 2 Nexus devices have been rooted so far with PC king root ( Chinese ui,) not app. There is also a beta KingRoot app released on XDA days ago with KingUser 1.0.2 temp root support. That one I tried with no success but I personally think it would be temp if we had " fastboot OEM unlock." Here are the links ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/root-t3453428) and ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=20401). In a little bit I will try the nougat KingRoot.

Also I think it's funny how people just gave up on this phone and started going towards other phones, and that's when our biggest chance at getting root is revealed... Karma. Being patient will pay off. Sucks to be anyone who gave up and got another phone.

It took a LONG time to get root on the original ZMAX. I'm sure that everyone who has that phone... feels that it was worth the wait.

The ZMAX PRO is a great phone even without root. Plus, we may get a legit upgrade to Nougat.

I'm just hoping that they allow us to use fastboot this time... That's all we need for root, I don't even care about custom ROMS... I want root and that's it. The stock ROM is OK enough for me.

Again, many have selective reading and hearing. I was fooled like you were into buying this phone. At least I educated myself on why Im not satisfied without root and wanted to help others go in the right directiion to either root this phone or go with a brand that is root friendly.

and you people who throw the word Troll around. Who are you? What exacrly is a troll? Are you better than everyone?
Turtlepwr82 please answer.
You like to respond right? Go ahead!

I was not fooled at all into getting this phone. I did much research, including if root was available, before I took the plunge and bought this phone. Like I said in a previous post, the software on this phone is very good to me, so I don't necessarily need root on the phone. I usually don't need root in general on any phone, but it can have very beneficial effects when the right people develop for a rooted phone. Second of all, if you're not satisfied with the phone, why keep it and continue to hang around its message board? You don't seem to be contributing anything to the discussion that will actually help root the phone, only goading arguments and posting sarcasm from what I've seen. Again, this is not a Nexus phone that will be rooted in a day or two, but people are really excited about the prospects of root from this phone with this chipset, as am I. Why dampen the enthusiasm?

And just to make it crystal clear before I get too off topic, I do not think of myself as better than anyone. However, I firmly believe in inspiring people makes great things happen, not bringing down the discussion with negativity. And in modern internet culture, a troll is (generally) someone who hangs around message boards, posting negative and sometimes hateful comments, and basically tries to incite arguments that have nothing to do with the original subject. Again, not to get too off topic, but if you have something to actually contribute to the question at hand (root of the ZTE ZMax Pro), by all means, please contribute (any news from ZTE you may have heard, any exploits you may know of that can be tried) as all of the people that are posting are doing. I am no developer, and so I have been trying to find out information from ZTE, and I appreciate the work of the coders to try what they can. Simply put: if you don't have something positive to contribute, why post?

Root isn't really that bad, I bought a cheap LTE enabled tmobile phone that has root, just for hotspot. Everything else about this phone is fine, all I wanted root for was unlimited hotspot, and now I have a 40 dollar phone with root that can do it for me. Then I have the ZMAX whenever I don't need hotspot. Win win.

<moderator removed>

I don't get this post at all. Masterchief started this post to collate all of the information that we know so far about rooting this phone. I do not recall reading, over the last 21 pages of this thread, where he (or others) have spread "false hope" to anyone. We have all been musing the possibility of it being rooted, as all posts that's I've seen where ZTE has responded never clearly state that the bootloader will not be unlocked, nor that fastboot will never be available for the phone. We all realize that the phone may never get root, but how do you know unless you try? As he said, this, in the end, is just a phone, and getting bent out of shape about it is silly. At this point, maybe you should move on to the next thread (and phone) since this one is obviously not to your liking (in either case).

I am curious to find out what this proposed update will be...hmm
Kingroot seems to be allowing the test of a root straguty for the Max pro. Mine fails at 24%, but maybe someone might have more success. it also says 39890 people have requested research in place 743, and only 540 more devices till ours hits the number one spot

I have hird that people have bin haveing misscounting with kingroot, but i have tried kingroot on many zMax pro's and i get the same results, so maybe its the way that The talkback Screen-reader reads the screen that it reads everything right. sorry if this post was OT, but i just figured i would put my 2 cents in in regars to the hole kingroot ishue

When it comes to Kingroot, with the old Zmax you had to overload the RAM on the phone while running it, so try and run multiple apps at the same time, open many windows of chrome as well and then try to run kingroot.

The ZTE phones have an exploit that it moves its RAM use from system apps to user apps if there isn't enough memory, when you do that is when Kingroot is able to get in the back door. IF that works, then we would be able to create a TWRP and have root.

Mine has consistently gotten to at least around 30% or so every time I've tried so far. Here are some photos of all my version info stuff.

However the old exploit worked has most likely been patched long ago, even if it would work on the PRO, it is most likely patched, and I've tried like you asked, it still failed at 24.

I agree.. this phone is great. I've been following the stylo 2 plus for a friend which is how I found some of my info. They to run on 6.0.1 and have root issue. My conclusion is we need a tangible exploit for software not hardware. Also ZTE have the update on deck but need to make it perfect before release so be patient. They won't say the going to do something and not do it. they are taking a lot of heat from the ZTE community and don't want to lose sales. They said they are also trying to fix screen glitch with an update as well. And someone said ZTE don't do updates but the axon7 got one for fastboot.. it's about supplying the demand..

Tried with KingUser 1.0.2.. This is more than what it did yesterday. Now I'm happier I bought this phone. The work is being done and I think logs are being collected every time we try. Keep trying.. We need to keep working together, have faith and not be sceptical. Devs work for free and don't need to care when people put them down. That's why phones don't get updates, unlocks or root. Or even Roms. Nothing is impossible. Just help get the work done or wait. KingRoot is still the king of root cause they rooted nougat.
