Root ZTE ZMAX Pro (Z981) root discussion

We all want to root it. I'm just experimenting. I haven't seen any viable solutions other than sending money or a phone to someone I don't know. I'd rather trash the phone trying.

yea im doing a lot of reading and searching thru the dirty cow thread. it looks promising.. i think they might have root before we do over here. but i dont see a lot of off topic discussion over there. but good luck and if i come across anything i will post. have a goodnight or day where eva u are..

Personally other than not running Adaway I'm 100% happy with how it is stock. Wouldn't mind running L Speed either but it's not super important. Mostly I just want a good ad blocker on it.

now it makes sense. LOL. Well not really, just curious what those things you list do? That a stock ROM can't. OR an app in play store can't?
Nothing on playstore works like adaway or any other root apps. I know root is dangerous, but if you know what you are doing you won't have any problem.

I don't really consider flashing the Xposed framework as development, but it has a lot of useful features.

I like rooted phones because I can remove software that I don't need, and customize the rom myself. You can do just about everything Xposed does without it. It does simplify it.

There are non root solutions for blocking ads that work just as well as Xposed. I suggest browsing GitHub if you really want to do some development.

Normally other than bloat removal, root not necessary for me. In the Zmax Pro's case I would use it to right the infinite wrongs ZTE slopped into every corner of this phone. They ship every other food stamp device of theirs with 5.1.X and should have included it with this one too, it would have been perfect. They singlehandedly destroyed the Marshmallow experience for me lol....

With that said, I don't have too many hopes for the poor souls working on 7.0 for this phone. I'm sure their building has baton-carrying guards and suicide nets :(

I was looking through the recovery logs on my phone after I called Google out as the writers of stage fright and hummingbird citing that elements of both that had their fingerprints all over them. And suddenly wouldn't you know it, there was a flurry of activity on my phone's recovery logs, specifically the introduction of a new log called a kmsg log that apparently corresponds to the actual recovery log numerically. While studying the latest one I noticed a reflash command execution... fwu_startup_fw] fwu_start_reflash
Then a request for this...

Does this help at all? There were also email addresses in the klog, I'm going to write them out and message them, cuz I'm bold like that. Anyway, what does this mean?

And what are those? NVM, I searched. I actually am not bothered by ads so never thought of searching an app for that. I root mainly to add something that was not on my system. Or in this case flash a nougat but it does not have root so...

Failed to root :(

you can edit the APN on a lot of the ad blockers to run a local proxy that will block the ads, I think it is a option on AdBlock plus, but don't quote me,

I'm leaning towards the one plus 3 at this point. These ones are going to become experiments until I ruin them, or succeed.

Adblock uses a list of known ad urls, and uses the proxy to alter the dns to cause them to redirect to dead pages I think. There is a free app that does the same thing.

Without Root access, all of the adblockers I've used (including AdBlockPlus, AdGuard, and a few others) can only do a so-so job of blocking ads when on Wi-Fi and that's IF you can get the proxy settings to work (which are a bit spotty, in my experience). With Root, you can block a multitude of ads whether you're on Wi-Fi or wireless data.

Here you go guys..best non root ad blocking I've found. Blocks well and does not drain battery.
