Has anyone tried EDL yet? Like "adb reboot edl" And if you go to recovery with the standard power+vol up and once at the menu you hold power and hit volume up to go into fastboot. Then try fastboot oem unlock from either. And the Nexus 6p has a new command "fastboot flashing unlock" so for all we know we have the new command as well

I went to recovery. I held power and hit volume+ though it did take me to a screen i havent seen yet, fastboot still waiting for devices. Great idea though

Or maybe if someone's got a Linux install of some kind it might make the detection of our phone while in this new screen simpler. I'm only assuming it's fastboot cause it's the farthest I've gotten so far going this route, but for all I know it's something else.

so i clicked wwan when i installed the driver? not sure what that option is for. i then rebooted to recovery and tried holding power while pressing volume up. took me to a screen with an android guy and a red triangle. nothing! I then rebooted phone and put in adb reboot edl and the phone rebooted to a black screen and windows loaded the qualcomm driver. i then tried fastboot devices, fast oem unlock, adb devices etc... nothing. the phone does get recognized in that mode though as a comm port. now we just need to know how to use it. i'm guessing fastboot is either disabled or removed from our phones. this edl mode may be of use though. im gonna do some research and see what all we can do with it if anything.

Sweet, another couple steps towards freedom lol. And EDL is emergency download mode or something along those lines so maybe we can flash stuff just like fastboot we just don't know the commands for it.

yes but zte doesnt have any flashing programs available like odin or anything to my knowledge.

I just did this and it just took me back into recovery over and over

Well im on the cook out.. I'll report back in a few hrs... Has to put my boy to bed.. (fam comes first).... ;)
Of course take your time :) the key to this problem has been found! Thanks pizza my PC died yesterday and without you trying things we wouldn't have gotten this far. Edit: wouldn't have gotten this far tonight I should say

I go to work and come home and huge leaps have already been made. Sweet. Now to try the flasher... Or not if we don't have anything that is flashable to it yet.

No we don't, this all happened within the like last hour lol, I came on to post the progress I made since my comp didn't want to do anymore work. Then pizzaG picked up where I left off and i happened to be on the right trail so things just fell into place. I think pumaa is gonna cook us up something juicy to finally flash onto our device

Once were done getting something ready to flash I'll probly put up a simple guide so there's at least one real one on rooting the zmax pro. And we can easily port twrp or cwm onto it after we flash root so soon enough well have full access to our devices.

ok so as of now my Z988 is in EDL mode, recognized in device manager as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008” under PORTS (COM & LPT)

Hmmmmm I think we just need a twrp that'll work for our device unpack it and flash it using miflash after getting the PC to see it in the hs-usb mode an bam we could get supetsu.zip installed from there

what we need to get to is that showing under ports, plus under disk drives we need an emmc device to show up. then we could dump various partitions, even the full rom image from what i understand, hence our beloved Recovery. At that point we could then build TWRP and flash it. Problem is, Qualcomm changed the 9008 and it doesnt show emmc under disk drives in device manager on our devices. We have to figure out a way to get that to show up.

Here is some good reading on the various Qualcomm modes: http://www.droidsavvy.com/unbrick-qualcomm-mobiles/

in order to build a working TWRP, we need to dump our stock recovery. this is how we get that accomplished. We are close but not there yet. We need to figure out how to get it in the correct 9008 mode that has emmc show up. once we have that we can dump at will

Try to get it into 9006 instead of 9008 maybe that's the mode you're looking for. And I feel I read somewhere to go into Windows disk manager, you'll see the emmc partition there if it's hidden and then get it to show.
