Breaking and Entering

In my case it was just breaking, thankfully. Yesterday I went to put a bag of trash in the dumpster when I found I couldn't get the back door to open. The lock would not draw the bolt from the keeper. I walked around my house and could clearly see evidence that someone had tried to pry their way though my back door. I finally managed to get the bolt retracted and the door open. The lock was broken and my door and the lock side jamb were gouged up. I was last through that door Wednesday AM. The wife and I were both away from home Wed. night to look at Christmas lights. We also ran to the grocery store Thursday. I have to speculate that the attempted break in happened while we were away and most likely while it was dark and we were looking at the Christmas lights. Whenever, I'm glad that they didn't get in.

I spent the afternoon replacing the lock and also installing a deadbolt. At least the chore was something I have the tools and the working knowledge to achieve. I was able to buy hardware that I could rekey to match my front door locks. At least I can use the back door once again and have it secured.

I'm now considering some sort of security cameras. I've lived here for over fifty years and this was my first attempted break in so it's not a frequent problem. I would love to have evidence to turn over to the police of the infraction. All I have is chipped door and jamb and broken lock. A video would be excellent. I hope I never have another problem but I don't want it to be my fault they walk free. I know nothing of my security options. I'm not interested in a service. I think my own hardware and storage device is more up my alley. I think wifi would be the answer. I'll be doing my research but welcome any suggestions.

Crockpot Cooking

We use our crockpot some across the winter months. We once used it a lot, slow cooking roasts, stews, and soups. Between the pressure cooking and the smoker, the crockpot rarely sees a lot of cooking. My son recently cooked a turkey breast in his crockpot and tomorrow I'm cooking some chicken breasts in mine. I've always all but submerged meats when using the pot. The turkey breast cook that I'm somewhat duplicating has very little liquid. A half cup of broth is all that's used. The meat is lightly oiled and rubbed then placed in the crock on high heat for three to four hours... 165°. It's all new to me but my son raved about his turkey so I'm giving it a go. Wish me luck.

How do you Celebrate Christmas 2023???

So X-mas is just around the corner. what are you guys plan? how do you celebrate? or do you? what are you going to be cooking/eating?

on X-mas eve my cousins and other relatives are coming over to my house.....potluck style. i am going to be cooking some pot roast with carrots, potatoes and swiss chard, polenta and mashed potatoes.....not sure what else is going to be brought....that's up to them. for dessert it will be a Marie Calendar apple pie.

and then on xmas day, i am cooking up some cornish game hens for me and my mom. i will have some green beans and potatoes with mushroom gravy.

gonna have to hit that elliptical a lit bit more afterwards......LOL

so what are you guys going to do?

Galaxy S24 Series

Looks like the next big thing is coming fast!

The S24 series will be revealed in a Samsung Unpacked event Wednesday, January 17th at 10 AM Pacific (1 PM Eastern). The phones should be available for purchase the next day!

I agree that the S23 Ultra is probably the best, most powerful & versatile phone on the market right now... but it has its limitations. The screen brightness tops out at 1750 nits and is very hard for me to see in daylight.

If rumors are true, the S24 Ultra display will go up to 2600 nits! Better yet, there's nowhere you can go where you can't get emergency help:

In October, a guy on a dirt bike collided head-on with our SUV, on a remote mountain road, while my Darling Bride was driving it. She had no cell signal and couldn't call for help.

The S24 Ultra will offer emergency satellite connectivity - if there's no signal, the phone will offer text messages by satellite to get help (voice calls will be added when additional bandwidth supports them).

For those two reasons alone, I'll be ordering two S24 Ultras as soon as I can, to replace our S23 Ultras. What about you? Will you watch the Unpacked event and do you look forward to the new phone?

  • Question Question
Samsung neigbor wants to use my mobile hotspot. Can I limit sharing to her device and 2GB? Can I block my phone from downloading? Can I filter domains?

A neighbor friend has asked me if she can hop on my wifi. She says she can help pay for wifi. I know how to enable mobile hotspot on my Samsung S9+ running Android 10. But I do have some questions:
  1. Can I limit sharing to just her particular phone and block out others who she may accidentally share the hotspot password with?
  2. Can I limit sharing to just a certain number of data (e.g, 2GB)
  3. When I’m sharing, how can I block out my phone from downloading stuff for itself? (To enable Mobile Hotspot, I have to disable Data Saver.)
  4. Can I filter certain categories (like illicit websites)? I don’t want to be responsible for other people’s usage.

Calendar Sync Is no Longer working After Upgrade to Android14

I use Desktop Outlook (365) for my calendar on my Desktop, Use Android Outlook App and obviously use Outlook web address and they are all working fine and if I change anything it shows up on all locations. I also have the Android preloaded calendar on mt Verizon S21 and until recently it also worked fine. It may or may not started working when I upgraded to Android 14.

If I make any change to my Outlook app they still work fine but the preloaded calendar never changes with any revisions or updates. If I add or revise a calendar event in the preloaded app it no longer shows up in Outlook.

Obviously, it appears there is no communication between the preloaded app and the Outlook apps.

Please provide any suggestions to fix this ssue.

How to find maximum input voltage and maximum input current supported by an android phone?

Hello,
Is there a way to know maximum input voltage and maximum input current supported by an android phone?

As an example, If the output voltage of a charger is 9V but the android phone supports only maximum of 5V input voltage then this would damage the battery.

If the output current of a charger is more than the maximum input current supported by the android phone then this would not damage the battery but knowing the maximum input current supported will help to buy a charger having the output current equal to or more than the maximum input current supported so that the phone can be charged as fast as possible.

(Please correct me if I am wrong in any of the above statements)

Thank you.

  • Question Question
S23 with Quest 3 VR

I have an S23 and I'm thinking of getting the MetaQuest 3 VR headset. The only two storage options for the Quest 3 are 128 gb and 512 gb. I probably would get the 128 version.
I have one question:
Do the games, videos, etc have to be stored on the headset or would I be able to access any of them from my phone? I'm wondering because if I'm getting close to the 128 limit, would I have to delete files from the headset or can I also use them from my phone storage?

Thanks
