Using Smart Thermostat From Android

I know this is not really an Android issue - just don't know what other forum exists for this and perhaps people here are doing this (if the forum moderators want to remove this because it's completely out of place here I'll completely understand).

I was about to have an electrician install a Honeywell smart thermostat when I read about all the personal data Honeywell (actually a different company that licenses the name) collects, both when setting up the thermostat and when using it from the Android phone. Their "privacy (sic) statement" says that they record and store, among other things, name, address, the schedule of every time the unit is set to go on/off, temperature setting, for which days it's set et al. This could let someone know a pattern for my being home and away. And the idea of them having all my information (which I do my best to avoid with google) raises my hackles.

They would more than likely need to store your data on a server in the cloud, so that their app on phone can interact with the smart-thermostat, remotely over the internet. However something like this AFAICT does NOT need access to personal details like name and address. The smart-thermostat itself will have an ESN(Electronic Serial Number), or MAC address, etc, which the server will use to access, read, and control the device. And they don't need to know the actual house number, and street where it's located.

I realize I completely misunderstood how smart thermostat works - I thought the schedule (time/temp) was stored in the unit itself (just like my mini-split units keep that information in the units). Perhaps I'm being paranoid because a lot of people use smart thermostats but this was a complete revelation to me. And raised my security concerns.

My only weak connection for posting this here is because it's all done through the cell phone. And therefore someone here may have gone down this "security concern" rabbit hole and can comment on it.

I think you're right to be concerned about this. After all there have been many data breaches, and leaks of personal private data from these IoT companies.

Anyone see this and is there a setting to disable this annoyances?

On the Maps window thing, I think it's set by default now. On my Chinese made Xiaomi at least - if you long press on that small Maps window with Navigation running it will expand slightly to reveal a settings wheel on the top left where you can turn off PIP permanently, or an X on top right to close one time.

Regarding the minimised apps I thought that was a regular feature on all Androids, unless you were trying to close the current app. Do you not have an X on a button to close all, or a Clear All at the end.
Maybe that's not what you were asking and I haven't used a Huawei phone.

@Unforgiven please take a notepad and pencil and wait at the back of the room for a little exam before your status is restored.
Honestly!

:D

(I've no idea what you discovered!)

Help for BLUC5L

RE: Brian706

Thank You for replying...and not being an a..hole about it. Yes, I've stated many x's I just want it to perform as it did/should have originally. OK, maybe this term is better "perform as it did "out-of-the-box'(?) I can't understand why anyone would not understand what that incurs??? Yes, it has many issues going on. Seriously, why post them if no one, now, is willing to ponder a solution? I've been chastised here, by those who cannot help so they take it as an affront and start in belittling and criticizing...all because they don't have the knowledge. Yes, you can see the frustration I've had trying to find the ROM for this particular model. It's a cheap phone, I've stated that, it's 2 yrs old, I've stated that, and I'd like to fix it, I've stated that. Why would anyone take offence to that??? Oh, think I answered that earlier in post. OK, let me state once and for all, I WANT TO GETTHIS MODEL PHONE WORKING PROPERLY...MY DECISION MY TASK AT HAND......if that offends you then just stay off of or do not respond to the post. Pretty simple, eh? You said "possibly a hardware issue" could you elaborate? Until I get my new phone, this is what I've got and have to deal with. Oh, I've "fac reset" phone 3x's and the ghosting issue, not being able have PC recognize phone, missing available storage and occasional lag/freeze are still there. Well, if it's hardware, then I'll ditch it when I get my new phone, but would like to know that FOR CERTAIN. THANKS AGAIN BRIAN

Apps Android Studio change build folder

AS does not seem to support changing the build folder. I found some suggestions on the net. One involved adding a few lines to build.gradle in the root project folder. it seemed to work fine, until it came to loading the app onto my phone, at which point I was inundated with error messages from my phone (param such and such undefined), so I went back to having the build in place, and things are working well (I only need to tell my backup software to exclude the build folder). Has anyone else dealt with this?

Help New unknown tab

Hmmm... ...Samsung has some weird game booster and another game feature that I can't find at the moment. I wonder if it is one of those. Beyond that, I'm kind of stumped. I'm going to move this to the Note 9 area as I know some folks that are way better at Sammy's than I am will see this. :)
Thank you, I've been having a look at the game booster settings too, but nothing obvious there

I've figured it out, it's from a toggle setting in the game plugins app. Didn't toggle it on myself, must've gone on with the update.

@mods, please close thread

[17/DEC/21] BUL6. 2nd DECEMBER update

This thread is now for information purposes only.

Only 10 days after their December Android Security patch update, BUL1, Samsung began rolling out their 4th Android 12 release for the S21 series of international devices.

However, as it turns out, this release was short lived and only available for a handful of countries and has since been withdrawn so that Samsung, in conjunction with Google, can fix some Google Play Store issues. (N.B. I have never encountered any Google Play Store issues on either the Beta or Stable Android 12 releases)

Initially, as always, this was a staged rollout to the non-carrier branded, stock Samsung CSC codes first.

The Galaxy S21 international devices that received this update were
  • S21 5G model SM-G991B
  • S21+ 5G model SM-G996B
  • S21 Ultra 5G model SM-G998B
This latest release replaces the previous G99*BXXS3BUL1 build on the international devices.

Changelog
  • Device security improved
  • Bugfixes

System information

Release date = 17 December 2021

Camera version = 12.0.00.83 (no change)

This is the 23rd stable update for the Exynos model in 326 days. Average = 1 update every 14 days.

TOP TIP: Wipe the phone's cache partition and use the Galaxy App Booster after updating.
