Pocket Dialing

I often dealt with things like it more when I used a SIII, S4, and Note 3. Back then, these phones had amazing (well, to me at least) lock screen effects, water for the SIII, light for the S4, and so on. If you used a secure lock, those effects got disabled and it was just bland. So I often just used 'swipe' for unlock at the time. Unfortunately, having discovered that I somehow 'sent' random gibberish to contacts, to having 4 apps open on their own, to hearing my pocket going 'bwop bwop bwop' (back when they used nature touch sounds) as I moved around, I started using more secure lock screens. Today, those iconic effects are no longer done so you don't benefit any way from not using secure lock, visually or otherwise.

Unfortunately, if you use a standard candybar form factor phone today, you can still pocket-interact with music widgets on the lockscreen, pocket-launch camera, or enable torch and drain most of your battery before you catch it.

Seeing CPU usage in Android 9 without rooting?

TakoStats can only show overall CPU usage (not per app/process). Moreover, it requires a further app: Shizuku, which in turn requires root or ADB magic.
So much better to use 'top' via ADB.
Setting up wireless ADB is a little awkward but has the advantage that no USB connection to some other machine is needed.
Wireless ADB permission gets reset after every reboot though. Also TakoStats (and Cool Tools although it requires root) offer the ability to show the app using the most CPU at any given moment in an overlay which has been quite helpful in my case to keep an eye on misbehaving processes and if reqd. terminate. The former in addition also shows GPU usage uniquely plus the frames being spit out by the GPU. Top in Termux is awkward to use as the processes list gets cut out in portrait mode.

Help Can a deleted SMS be recovered ?

on my z fold 4 i can't even make a text without prividing a recipient 1st. so i was unaware that you could do this before. i think the saved drafts are most likely saved in a temp cache folder or maybe even in clipboard(i could be wrong in this) and temp files are never recoverable once they have been deleted or overwritten......sorry you are probably sol.

Ahsoka: Thoughts?

thoughts on the season finale?

i thought it as great. but the end leaves more questions.......i guess that is common with cliff hangers......lol
i am still curious where they go with Baylan. i only had one scene. now i know the actor playing Baylan died....so are they going to recast the role? do some cgi? just write him off of the show in season 2?

i was hoping that Shin would join Ahsoka but that ending suggests otherwise.

and lastly THRAWN is such a badass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How to disable ads

Unless you want websites to send notifications maybe check Settings > Apps, find your browsers and remove their notification privileges.

There were stories a few years ago about pre-installed Samsung apps producing ads, but I've never seen that on my s21 (and while I have the adGuard add-on for Firefox I don't use a system-wide ad blocker).

Horizon Zero Dawn: Forbidden West

Initially, when it came out on PC, it had problems with optimization, and I didn’t really like the plot, it seemed a little boring to me. Maybe it’s just not my genre or maybe I should replay it
you should replay it. have you played the first game? this is the second game of the series. and i loved the plot. the burning shores dlc is also a great addition to the game.

what is your genre of games you like to play? and when did fighting robot dinosaurs get boring?

question – SMSs, full date, apps

In my experience most apps put the date on all messages, except where there is a continuous exchange of messages where they reduce clutter by not putting this on every message - but if there is a gap of a few minutes the next one will get the date again. I can confirm that's how Textra, QKSMS and Samsung Messages work (I wasn't going to enable Google Messages so that I can check that one, or give Signal SMS access to check). If you really want the date on every single message then there may be an app out there that does this, but I can't say which (for most people that would not be desirable).

As for full date vs "Today", "Monday" etc, I can tell you that Textra is showing messages I received yesterday as "Tuesday, 3 Oct, 10:09" (I've not received any SMS today - I get a lot more WhatsApp than SMS these days). Again, there may be one that includes the year for messages in the current calendar year, but I didn't note this when checking the other apps (and it's a faff changing between apps these days because you have to change default app each time).

I might add that none of this is anything to do with Android 13: this behaviour has been the same for some years, and a third party app doesn't change with the Android version (the manufacturer may make changes to their app when they change major version, but I don't use manufacturer apps anyway).

What Are Mod Apk Games, Are they Legal to Use?

Mods that bypass payments (whether providing paid apps without payment to the developer or bypassing in-app purchases) are app piracy, and as such we don't discuss them here. The forum rules make clear that providing links to such apps can lead to being banned from the forum, so it's obviously not in the spirit of the rules to provide any support for them.

Strictly speaking, any mod, even to a free app, is going to involve infringement of copyright. Even redistributing an unmodified free app without the developer's permission does that: the fact that the developer does not charge for the app does not in itself give anyone the right to do anything other than use the app without charge (of course they may be perfectly happy for people to redistribute or even modify, but you need to check before doing so). So legally we're on shaky grounds in providing any assistance with these things unless the developer has given permission for modifications to be made (and of course we don't want to cause trouble for the forum owner).

But safety? That depends entirely on who has modified the app. Generally speaking I'd advise extreme caution: unless you are sufficiently technically competent you have no way of knowing whether the modifications include a malware downloader, a keylogger, adware, etc. It comes down to trust, and in many cases you'll be asking whether you trust someone who has already shown willingness to break laws to rip off the developer not to be ripping you off as well. Yes, some people will hack apps just to stop them tracking you or things like that, but as the person who downloads and installs it you have to decide for yourself how confident you are that there is nothing malicious in there.
