Font and icons shrunk and I can't get them large again

Have you tried just restarting your phone?
And just to clarify, when you state you can't 'get them large again' this means you have looked into the 'Display' menu in your Settings?
There should be options there referring to Font size and Display size.
If you have and those options aren't working when you readjust them, try restarting your Stylo 4 into its Safe Mode and see if you can change those options while in Safe Mode:
https://www.hardreset.info/devices/lg/lg-stylo-4/safe-mode/
If changing the font size and display resolution works out while in Safe Mode, that's an indicator some kind of third-party app is involved. Have you installed something like a launcher app or something similar?

Screen hung, how to force a shutdown?

Thanks!!
I've since called Samsung directly (I forgot that they have great customer service hours & actually answer the phone.) They agreed that the phone has been rooted (the kernel # doesn't match the model A50) & the two keys function had been altered. So now I am in the process of seeing if I can get a replacement from the eBay seller. I've now been scared off from buying "open Box" cell phones because of this. I fear that I'm going to have to shop for a new phone that is available as "new" and unlocked and in the mid-range price slot like the A50. Ugh... how time consuming...

Samsung j7

I don't know if you ever solved this, but the best way to do this is to go to the Apps screen, click on the ... (menu) and select Home Screen Settings. Scroll down to "Hide Apps" and it will bring up a screen of all your apps that may have check marks that would make them hidden. Uncheck any apps you don't want hidden. Then choose apply.

5G Discussion & Explanation

What little I remember of the Providence RI roll out article I saw you could get it in some shops that had a repeater but plate glass windows blocked the signal. When outside a few steps to the left or right would make you drop that signal. Providence is also very hilly and elevation seemed to play a role.
This is no where near Tesla's dream of wireless power transmission for everyone. Maybe if they can increase transmission range somehow?

S7 software Issue

just because A phone is rommed or rooted does not make the phone anymore less subject to getting virus or being unsafe. it all falls back on the users actions is what causes you to get viruses just a 1 simple click on a link out on google site can do it all to where you would have been more that happy to have had your phone rooted and completely backed up and saved safely on your computer and pick up where you left off at. just thought to maybe to toss that out there
I have been a member of this android forum every since they first loaded their first site.

Call Blocker?

This. I've never installed anything outside PS, but have heard of trouble doing so. Were I to install from a 3rd party, is this "warning" a one time deal on install or every time I use the app? I have "Lookout", will that throw a flag each time it runs? I get bugged pretty easily by BS like this and would rather avoid it (and avoid smashing said phone).

Russ

It is a setting, called Allow Untrusted Sources or similar.

If you leave this setting on, then the warning is a one time thing.

If you turn the setting off, then yes, you will get the nag screen again.

And Google will also occasionally pester you to turn on their 'app scan security whatchamacallit' BS.

I always decline.
Google is the number two purveyor of malware.

I know damn well that it is just going to flag anything that I installed from anything not Google. Maybe not. I really don't care what Google thinks about my apps. I don't want their opinions, if I did I would ask them. Each nag message makes that even less likely, hahaha!

I don't trust Google any more than I could throw them.

UpToDown is the second largest appstore second only to Google- and UpToDown does not appear in a list of the top 5 providers of malware.

Google is number two, second only to a shady appstore that provides cracked and hacked apps.

UpToDown is based in Spain, I believe, just for some info.

I have used UpToDown extensively, and can help you if you have any issues or questions about it.

I know the UI is not what you are used to, and it takes time (it did for me, too!) to adjust.

Right now, we are jyst dealing with this one app, so let's see how it goes.

You did say that you have it on one device, correct?

You want to find the version number of the app.
If you have the version that you like, then that is the version number to look for.

If it was updated and you don't like the new version, then you want ghe previous version.

The numbers between apps on the app stores usually match, but can be different.
We just need somewhere to start.

Also, keep in mind that updating an app is easy, and you don't usually lose any of the app's data.
But if you want an earlier version, the the newer version must be uninstalled, and all that app's data will be gone.

This only affects that one app, and only if you are 'downgrading' instead of updating.

If I remember correctly, you just want to put this app onto a device that does not have it, correct?
If this is true, then no worries, it can just be installed without an issue.

Voice to Text Sluggish

My phone uses the google text to speech engine. It is not related to the speech to text engine by the looks of it. I disabled this app and it made no difference to the voice to text performance. I also uninstalled it and same, no difference. Contrary to the comments on the play store that some other people think that it is related to voice to text, that does not appear to be the case. It's still a mistery to which app / engine drives the voice to text. As I noted, when I disable the automatic mode for google voice typing, then it defaults to the google voice engine for all apps. And it seems to work fine at interpreting and speed, otherwise it appears there is a different engine when this mode is enabled which is the default and is simpler. ??

Accessories Unboxing ALL the Galaxy S20 Plus Accessories (ok, not all)

Nice set of goodies you've got there. The Samsung inductive charger piques my interest. I've not seen it before. I have an older Samsung EP-N5100TBEGUS that is rated for fast charging but I have no idea how fast. The advertising speaks of compatible Sammy 8 and 9 devices. I don't really need to charge faster but I could step up my game and take my old charger to the cabin. Looking forward to your review on it as well as the car mount / charger. My current car mount is just that... at nice mount with zero charging.

Question. Should I get a new phone or not?

My Moto Z² Force is only 10 months old [because it was a new replacement for a defective one]. I love mine, and have no intention of ditching it any time soon. But I'm not you!

I always buy my phones directly from Motorola, so they're already paid for and that isn't a consideration. If I had the 'free upgrade' option, but it was for a not-very-new model, I'm not sure what I'd do. I guess it would depend on whether its specs were that much better than my current phone.

And if you do the 'free upgrade' thing through your carrier, does that lock you in to another 2-year contract with them? That's something to factor in. If you're happy with your carrier--its service, its coverage, its support, its cost, etc.--and want to stick with them, being locked in isn't a big problem.

You might try an old, tried-but-true method of deciding: write down the pros and cons of keeping/upgrading. Just make two columns on a piece of paper, one for pros the other for cons. When you're done, see which side is longer and go from there!
thanks I will do that later on, and plenty of reaserch.

Security problem

Are you using the same password across more than one site, account, or service? If so, one of the others may have got hacked and your account details leaked.

I have hooked up to public Wi-Fi in the past with cheap pos phones.. were they able to breach my phone then once I hooked up to my personal Wi-Fi at home they were able to breach it?
Just trying to figure these things out! I wish I knew way more than I did!
