Ahhh, that makes more sense. Do you have port forwarding set up on your home router? (The default SSH port is 22 so since you're apparently setting up remote SSH access you might want to change that.) Or are you using a proxy?

Hi, I switched phone companies, Ive put in a new 'Sim' everything works fine, but im NOT getting a Visual 'Icon' at top of 'Home' screen , to tell me there is a Voicemail waiting for me .. I used to get a small, '2 circles, with a line through' type icon, .. but i now do NOT get ANY Notification for Voicemail ..I can only check messages, by randomly, dialling my 'Voicemail' number and checking if anyone has left me a Message !! How can i get this 'Voicemail' Notification (Visual ) Icon back , when someone has left me a 'Voicemail' ? Thanks in Advance !
Xiaomi Redmi, 7a , Android 10 ....

My Pixel 7 Pro is rooted, however, it still grabs updates, etc., and I want to stop it from doing that. I did some searching and I found that to do this, I could simply rename a few files.

However, I have been unable to rename the files. This is what I have done:

• Installed ConnectBot
• typed 'su'
• cd'ed to the directory that has a file to rename
• typed 'mv oldFileName newFileName'

This resulted in the error mv: bad 'oldFileName': Read-only file system

Question: can someone point me to instructions that would allow me to make the file system not read-only or some other approach for addressing this issue? Thanks.

Aldiko is one of my favorite apps and one of the older versions I keep today (from Android 2.3 no less). Any downloaded book is kept in the Ebooks folder under a subfolder with the titles. So copy and paste all those subfolders to the Ebooks folder in your new device and re-open the Aldiko app and they should populate the bookshelf. You can also read PDF files there too, as using Aldiko to open a PDF (such as a service manual in my case) makes them also appear on the bookshelf.

I don't use paid content or an account with them though, I just use it for free content. So I am not sure what paid content does or where it's stored, but if you use an Aldiko account it should just work like above once you're logged in.

When i used straight talk, using any phone that's compatible with the tower your phone currently connects with would work. Case in point, I was able to use my locked Galaxy S5 (verizon) with a straight talk Byop 'verizon compatible' SIM card. So if you find your smaller dream phone, make sure you get the proper model or SIM for it. You are NOT stuck with whatever garbage ST offers.

I never wanted it. I don't do the whole 'life as a service' subscription garbage. That stuff adds up real quick. But I still get notified by it (Apparentlly built in modern android) being used to backup my photos via a notification I haven't been able to turn off yet.

update: now they've gotten smart enough in Linux-fu to know how to load and watch YouTube videos, enable developer console in browsers (which is a pain to disable once enabled!) and launched multiple instances of Dillo web browser (and enabled dev console there too).

if you can get to recovery, you can try a hard reset(factory reset). if not then you will need to find a firmware update for the phone.

here is one i found, but double check this is the correct model of phone first before trying it. firmwares are device and model specific. flashing the wrong firmware can be bad for the phone.

I was dumping my iphone 12 pro, and going to get the moto g 5g but the size turned me off. Got the pixel 7a, and i'm glad that i did. Sweet phone with no problems, and the 6.1 size works for me. Actually 6.0 would be even better.

Did you develop the round icons with the chrome circle surrounding them? That's what I'm using throughout my Smart Launcher Pro app drawers and on the home screen.

This is budget-class tablet running a Go version of Android -- two significant drawbacks. Being an off-brand tablet the odds are there will never be any long-term support by the manufacturer nor by third-party ROM developers, and on top of that Android Go versions are Google's half-hearted attempt to provide a working operating system for below-spec mobile devices.

Your efforts to find a magic fix for this tablet is likely to fail, it's a tablet that by design is not intended to have very much if any long-term customer support. I'd suggest you drop it off at a local recycling facility and instead focus on buying something that you don't have to struggle with just to use.
Or how recently did you purchase this tablet? If it's still covered by a warranty return it. The expectation is it should be fully functional as is, unless the seller did expressly state there's a problem with it.
If budget is a factor in finding a replacement, try looking at an Amazon Fire tablet. FIreOS is Amazon's user interface that runs on top of basic Android kernel.. There's a lot of Amazon branding but that also results in lower costs for very usable tablets. An equivalent to your Yumkem tablet would be something like this Amazon Fire 10". It's a refurbished by its manufacturer tablet (warranty same as new) on sale for $110:

Puzzling advice depending on just what operating system the OP is running on their PC. If Windows, suggesting someone should just disable AV/malware scanning functionality is a creepy recommendation, it just increases the risk level of their PC to being compromised in some way. Embedded macros in a lot of Word and Excel files are a common occurrence, as are infected macros.

So that's being paranoid? I consider this advice to be covert gaslighting. Yeah, perhaps this will result in solving the OP's lag issue, but at what cost? Both MS Windows and MS Office have been massively popular targets for black hat hackers, and for decades. I'd suggest the OP to keep searching for alternatives, a Core i5 PC with 8GB of RAM and a SSD should be pretty responsive for things like opening MS Office content. The problem only being with specific file types, there has to be a more practical solution.

Stop buying carrier-locked phones, since you're not restricting yourself to always use the same carrier year after year this isn't some kind of FCC matter, it's your responsibility. When you continue buying carrier-locked phones, that can create problems switching carriers. A carrier-locked phone will be running firmware that's branded and customized to meet the needs of a specific carrier's cellular network. The issue being each carrier has its own cellular network that rarely is compatible with other carriers.
Buy carrier-unlocked models instead. You'll likely pay more for a carrier unlocked phone but that also results in you having a lot more options to use different carriers without having to buy a new phone.
(... and that is a debatable issue in that you might pay more for a carrier-unlocked phone up front but in the long term that cost difference isn't a factor. Carrier branded phones may be free or at a nominal price but that's not some kind of charitable PR, you do pay for that phone but its cost is spread throughout the entire contract time period you are 'locked' into paying each month.)

I would leave it also, the only thing being is as it breaks down into small granules they find there way into the living spaces through cracks and holes and may end up as a fine dust on furniture and such.

I also would shop vac if removal is necessary, sweeping up/attempting to make piles is only going to make it air-born and I would be wary of inhaling that stuff !
