I use Textra and can turn the sound on or off but can't change the actual sound it makes. @Hadron is right (as always), your options may be very limited even if you try other apps.

We don't know that it's notifications waking it, that's just a possibility. But one possible workaround for that is Do Not Disturb mode: by default that blocks all app notifications (you can set it to let some or all calls and messages through, or notifications from apps you want).

Ok, found at least one of the culprits: Smart Things Framework. I can't uninstall it and I can't turn off notifications. It sent me a notification about something yesterday, but I don't remember what it was. I don't know if there are more of these annoying things or not. If I come across another I'll report back.

I had no issues on my run this morning. I put a lock screen on, and then took it off after the run.

I have a Samsung A52 which I use to stream to either my car audio/phone or my hearing aids. When I'm connected to one of these Bluetooth devices, I want the phone to ring ONLY via Bluetooth, not the phone speaker. This works fine in my car, but when the phone rings I hear it through the hearing aids and I hear the phone's ringtone from the phone speaker. I need to stop this for when I'm in public places where a ringtone would be a problem. Is there an easy way to do this? I can't find anything in the phone's settings. I can get it to work by lowering the phone volume to zero but I don't always remember to do it. I'd like it to happen by default.
When I don't have a Bluetooth connection, I'd want the phone to ring through its speaker. Thanks.

From what I can find out it should work for basic 2G telephony, as long as it isn't locked to a particular provider's SIM cards. But for anything else the c811 model looks like it only supports US bands, which are not widely used outside of North America.

There's a site that can be used for checking phone compatibility called willmyphonework.net. It doesn't list the c811 model explicitly, and I think the GzOne Commando 4G LTE it lists is a different phone because it has a 3G band which other sites don't show the c811 having.

As we said above, no that is not normal. In fact I still have it installed and can confirm that it still works normally. So it's something odd with your phone. Have you tried any of the suggestions above? Or clearing all data for Chomp (which doesn't erase messages as they are stored in a system database rather than the message app, so will reload after you start it again - you'll lose your customisations though).

If you need to keep the Location History on, you can disable the email notifications for it. To do this, go to Google Maps > Menu > Settings > Personal Content > Location History > Manage Settings > Email Notifications and turn it off.

I've tried many smart home platforms, from Samsung Smartthings to Google Home to Philips Hue to Tzumi to many others. None worked reliably enough to rely on them confidently and I just went back to ye olde switches on the walls. Besides, the whole needing internet to do things the internet shouldn't be needed to do makes no sense to me. Same reasons I won't have any 'smart' appliances in my home. There's a story about someone's smart microwave that got screwed by a botched firmware update that made it think it was a steam oven. If I can't be confident that the stuff in my home will work the way it has always worked I don't want no part in it. I spent a few thousand $$$ just to make my home a 1960s time capsule, with the only exceptions being the CRT TVs are from the '90s (couldn't find a '60s CRT TV anywhere), and of course my laptops and smartphone and watch. Although my laptops are old enough to be considered 'vintage'.

But one thing is for sure. All of that conversion will be working long after the whole smart home platform has long since EOL'd. I wish I had Shango066's luck of coming across TVs of the vintage he has on the channel. I've always wanted a TV/radio/phono console. Never found one that had the TV (I got a Magnavox Astro-Sonic from the '60s that has the radio/phono) or never found one where the TV actually did anything if it existed (many times the TV had a necked picture tube, or was removed for making it a cat bed).

If you're losing them on the cloud storage that's one of the things that made me never get 'into' the whole cloud storage thing. I have heard horror stories of people losing their entire MP3 collection because a cloud provider had some sort of copyright dispute over the songs stored there. It's enough to ensure I'll always have them either on internal storage (and backed up multiple places) or on an SD card.

I never got the option at all. So I had no way to hit 'always' by mistake. It never prompted me. No matter what file browser I install, it just defaults to the Samsung sound picker with its limited selection and no ability to add.

It doesn't matter if you place the sounds in ringtones or otherwise, they never show up. The phone (A14 5G) I've had for only a week, and it only has 10 notification sounds available. All of them are 'spacey' and I want 'naturey' back. I use a Galaxy Watch so thankfully the watch just vibrates and the phone is silent when I'm getting notifications. A workaround at best for now.

Thankfully I was able to "TouchWiz-ify" the UI and found compatible replacement apps. Wish I could turn off the notification from android system that says 'Check Access Settings Nova Launcher has Accessibility permissions on...' but I TOLD it to use that for the double-tap to turn off screen gesture. But that annoying notification comes back every few days if I swipe it away, and Google has greyed out the ability to turn those notifications off or minimize them. I really hate how idiot-proofed modern Android is today.

At least you didn't get the false positive 'fraud alerts' when using Samsung Pay. That one also halted me for a time, ultimately forcing me to switch to a VISA. My Amex card worked just fine if I swiped the card itself, but despite it being supported by Samsung Pay (and Apple Pay), if I used those methods, it'd decline outright, and I'd get an email that declared a possible 'fraud charge' and I had to click 'try again' in the email, and then it'd work ONE time, and that was it. Took far longer than using cash. I might as well be writing a check in the checkout line for how long it took. I never knew what caused Amex to assume every Samsung/Apple Pay purchase was 'fraud' but it happened so often I went with Visa that works fine. Also today, our town is more open to NFC than it was in 2018-.

I thought that I would share my results. It appears that my Samsung tablet running 4.4.2 does not synchronize with the Internet, and I cannot find any settings to make it do so. I have had it plugged in and connected 24/7 while running a clock app for about a week now. It continues to be about 20 seconds off. I intentionally set it off, so that I could see the results when/if it synchronized.

Atomic clocks just don't work for me. I must live too far away from the radio source. I suppose I'll start looking to see if there are any clocks that connect and sync to the Internet. I may check this thread again next weekend to see if anyone has any additional suggestions.

(nickdalzell: The desktop that I am typing this on is over 10 years old. I know what you're saying! Sometimes, I'll actually go to the kitchen while I wait for Firefox to open, but once it does, I'm good to go! And, since it's Windows 10, it gets security updates.)

Hi all! I was very interested in how much ChatGPT could make it easier to create a mobile application. This is a quiz app. I wanted the chat to help create content for the app. The neural network generated more than 8 thousand questions from different categories and translated them into different languages.

The game has the ability to play with multiple friends on the same phone. There is also an online mode.

There are sometimes small problems with questions. Sometimes they are repeated, sometimes they are incorrectly composed, etc. But the chat managed to handle a big chunk of the job. And the correction of questions can be provided to users. If the user sees an error in the question, they can submit a bug report in the question and write their own comment.

Make sure you export all contacts. Some phones I've met would export different groups of contacts separately, e.g. phone-only contacts, Google contacts, etc. That's fine as long as the import replaces contacts, but if it doesn't and you heed to clear things to sort it out you want to be sure you have a vcard backup of absolutely everything before doing that (if it exports all contacts into a singe vcard file then your original file is your complete backup).

Mine does not use a magnet. I'll check those stands out.

Pale Moon because it still supports Windows 7. I can't stand the UI of Windows 10 or above, including the forced updates and constant changes. I would rather my computer be exactly as I left it when I go to use it. It also has a nice Aero theme that goes well with Windows 7.

The reason many people used to fill their desktop with icons was due to the start menu. Back in the Window 3.x days the entire desktop was known as the Program Manager and all your icons were in tiled groups all there within view. It was a fast way to organize and have "at a glance" access to every program on your machine.



When Windows 95 came out, all that changed. The "start menu" took the Program Manager and hid it behind a ton of nested menus. To get to, say, Microsoft Flight Simulator, you had to click Start, then hover over Programs, then Games, then Microsoft Games, then Microsoft Flight Simulator, then, untimately, clicking the icon titled Flight Simulator 5.0. If, for any reason, you missed the folder, or hovered just outside the menu, you had to start all over again. Everyone HATED the Start Menu so in a way to speed everything up and basically recreate the Program Manager, they often placed desktop shortcuts to all their apps, documents, and games. That's the origin of the cluttered Windows desktop.

Despite everyone having claimed 'OMG they took the start menu away in Windows 8!!!' the reality for many people was that they HATED the start menu's extra steps. So even in the era of Windows 10 and 11, the cluttered desktop still exists. I personally thought the Start Screen of Windows 8 was nice, as it brought back the Program Manager in a more modern sense. The parts I hated about 8 was the flat design, along with the weird gesture controls if you're using a laptop with touchpad, and the 'charms' bar that made shutting down the system a confusing ordeal. Many apps were trying to be proto-UWP and relied on gestures that you never got an introduction to. For example, to download and read a book on the Kindle app for Windows 8.1, you had to tap and drag down on the book icon. On Android or iOS, you just tapped the book and it downloaded and opened in one step. The 'touch and drag down to download and open a book' was NEVER shown on first run. A ton of Windows 8 apps did this and made using the OS a pain.

The quote should be 'seriously stop treating it like Windows 95!' Windows 7 is like 10 in that you can both pin to start and pin to taskbar. I have most of my oft-used app icons on a desktop gadget.
