Help How to report spam?

i use youmail. it cuts my spam calls and will block a majority of calls coming to my phone.
Thanks, but youmail does not support Google Fi.

Along these lines: It seems to me that the only way to access voicemail with Google Fi is via the Google Voice app, which to be used must be the default dialer app. I would like to use a different dialer app, but have been unable to find any voicemail apps that work on my Pixel 7.

Question: What voicemail app(s) can I try or must I use Google Voice?

Help Backup taken via iTunes to PC, how to restore Whatsapp from PC to Android?

Unfortunately, it's not possible to restore WhatsApp data directly from an iTunes backup to an Android device. This is because the backup formats used by iTunes and Android devices are different.

However, there are a few workarounds that you can try:

  1. If you have an old Android device, you can restore the iTunes backup to that device and then use the built-in backup feature in WhatsApp to create a backup. You can then transfer this backup file to your new Android device and restore it.
  2. You can use a third-party tool such as iSkysoft Toolbox or Dr.Fone - WhatsApp Transfer to transfer WhatsApp data from iTunes backup to your Android device. These tools allow you to extract the WhatsApp data from the iTunes backup and then convert it to a format that is compatible with your Android device.
  3. Another option is to use WhatsApp's built-in "Move to iOS" feature to transfer your WhatsApp data from your Android device to an iPhone. You can then create an iTunes backup of your iPhone and use one of the above methods to transfer the data to your new Android device.
It's worth noting that these methods may not work in all cases, and there is always a risk of data loss when transferring data between different platforms. So, it's always a good idea to backup your data regularly and keep multiple copies in different locations.

"New" phone, old problem

Not sure. I guess it's not an HTC then. Whenever I read or hear 'Sense' the only thing that my mind produces is HTC Sense.

As for plugging it into a PC, it should recognize it as a standard USB disk if you enable MTP (it should say 'connected as installer' in notification bar when plugged into a laptop, which you then tap and tell it to use 'MTP' and it shows as a USB drive)

But then that works on anything running Vista or 7, but no luck from my attempts with Windows 10/11. But then 10/11 are garbage so it doesn't surprise me.

How to connect whatsapp from laptop to phone?

If you have lost your SIM card and cannot use your old mobile number to connect to WhatsApp, you will need to update your WhatsApp account with your new phone number. Here's what you can do:

  1. Get a new SIM card with a new phone number.
  2. Download and install WhatsApp on your new mobile phone.
  3. Open WhatsApp and enter your new phone number when prompted. You will receive a verification code via SMS or phone call.
  4. Enter the verification code into WhatsApp to verify your new phone number.
  5. Once your new phone number is verified, open WhatsApp Web on your laptop.
  6. Follow the steps to connect to WhatsApp Web as described in the previous answer.
After completing these steps, you should be able to use WhatsApp on your laptop with your new phone number,Please note that your old chat history may not be transferred to your new account unless you have backed it up previously.

Kyocera: DuraForce Ultra 5W vs DuraSport 5w

never owned a kyocera phone before, so i can't speak personally about.

this review pretty much says it all about the durasport. Kyocera DuraSport 5G UW review: tough choices
its a good rugged budget phone. the camera is ok according to the article. it does not do well in low light are taking action photos. sure the higher megapixels are great. but it also depends on the software as well.

but this articlehttps://www.theverge.com/22446490/kyocera-duraforce-ultra-5g-uw-review-price-specs-screen-camera also says that the camera is for people who are not looking to take professional looking photos. it does the job.

which one is better? i would say that there are almost the same. though if you do intend to take photos in low light situations i might stay away from the sport.

Help Nandroid Backups (TWRP)

I've given up on TWRP..... I'm now using a Windows .bat file to backup ALL partitions on the device. It works great except throws errors on these two partitions : mmcblk0 and mmcblk0rpmb

I've read that these two partitions are not REALLY partitions at all, but are some sort of "special" files within the /dev/block directory.

The question is do I have a complete Nandroid back up without these two included?? Anyone??

Thanks

At least not my phone this time

Even Samsungs today mirror Apples or sometimes Motorolas, especially since there's no defining 'Samsung' feature like with the old TouchWiz models like the S4 or S5, where not only could you tell that it was an S4 or S5 based on the rear cover and camera, but the logo of 'Samsung' was emblazoned both on back and the front, and the iconic home button/capacitive menu and back keys.

Today? they're all in the sea of multi-camera, no buttons, 6.5"+ sasquatch phones running a version of Android that looks far too much like modern iOS. Basic, flat, boring, no repairability, not even a way to easily replace the battery.

Unless LTE dies in the future, there ain't nothing that makes me want anything newer than the Galaxy S5. I find it sort of funny and sad at the same time that whenever you boot up a modern Samsung, be it a flagship or an A-series, they just say 'Samsung Galaxy', not even giving them a name anymore. Just a generic label, and no more boot animations or music. Why did the fun have to die is what I ask? Why did we have to lose so much competition? Why can't we have WebOS, Symbian, Meego, Android, iOS, Java, and more? We literally have two phone OSs now. Lack of competition stifles innovation!

Help Default phone app won't unmute

well if you factory reset the phone and you are still having issues, then you ,ight have a hardware issue. i would take it in to have it looked at and hopefully fixed.
Thanks for that, ocnbrze. I thought that it might be hardware but the fact that skype and audio recorder still work fine (what's the difference between skype, whatsapp and talkatone?), I went off the hardware idea. When I reset the phone, I initiated an auto-migrate (including ver12 upgrade) from my backup. Unfortunately, my backup was made just prior to the reset so it is possible I migrated the problem back into the phone. I am now hoping there is a driver/app fix or other user who went through this with a resolution before blindly going down the hardware route. I am currently abroad and the thought of handing over my phone, for who knows how long, is not appealing.

Mic not working for calls

Hello,

I've been dealing with this problem for a while and was wondering if anyone had a clue on how to fix this.

Manufacturer - Samsung
Model - Note 9
Software version - Android 10
Phone not rooted
Specifics of the problem :

When I want to place a call from either my carrier or voip like WhatsApp, Signal etc... my mic is not working - no one can hear me.
The app all have permissions to use the microphone.
When using the voice recorder it pick up everything fine with no problem.

I don't seem to find why this happens and would appreciate any help.

Best regards,
I have this same issue. This is what I have done but none have resolved it.

Actions: safe mode, other phone apps (eg virus/malware scans, installed google phone, whatsapp, talkatone, etc), using external headphones with mic, swapped-out sim, google play protect and checked all permissions and removed other mic-using apps, factory reset

I have an issue with voice calls in that my mic will not unmute (I can hear person called fine but they can't hear me). Hitting mute button only alternates green/white. Only apps tried so far with no issue are skype & voice recorder. Sim tested good in another sam phone (no mic issues).

Cannot login to any Google account on Xiaomi Poco X3

You can't download anything from Play Store?
Passwords and Security - Privacy : are the Google Play System and Security updates within the last four months?

I don't know if I would remove the Google account, testing your log in details on another device first, and rebooting and putting it back on (not factory resetting).

Maybe check Settings - Mi Account - Xiaomi account and check your phone number and personal details as well as your Mi / Xiaomi account number are there. If not you might have one if you ordered directly.

If so you can submit a query in Settings - Services and Feedback - Feedback and use Logs to include software info stuff. There were fairly quick to respond to me in the past (1 - 3 days).

It's probably something simple in Settings somewhere. There's a Second Soace thing but I don't think that involves a second user account.

I did have problems using Google apps in the past. I think it was while waiting for a large update when everything was months behind.

Since I am up for an upgrade..

Oh the old phones still technically work as in they can still be wifi-enabled MP3 players, download APKs and play games and read ebooks, even take notes and do basic calculator/weather functions. But as phones and messaging platforms they're dead so they can't be used a smartphones anymore. I'd be carrying both my S5 (the oldest smartphone usable in 2023) along with my Thunderbolt to do what I can do with just the S5 for the nostalgia. Which is saying something since I wasn't there when the Thunderbolt came out in 2011, but in 2020 and up until late 2022, it was a nice ride. I loved that thing, even if everyone else hated it. Sense 3 was just awesome. Nothing today feels as nice or as well-made. Just flat, cheap and basic. Boring.

A very unique time and era of great early Android development gone....because carriers couldn't or wouldn't find a way to keep 2G, 3G, 4G LTE and 5G going all at once, even though they obviously were until February 2023, so it can be done. I hate futurists...they say all this about 'going green' by not including charging bricks or manuals, but then you look at the fact they basically reduced all the early smartphones to e-waste and got rid of removable batteries and carriers ensured only mostly modern smartphones work today, which, exempting the Galaxy S5 due to 'accidental VoLTE compatibility', means no phone with a removable battery can be used 100% anymore. They basically promote disposability and constant upgrade cycles (and app developers encourage it even more with many apps today popping up messages demanding you update to continue to use the app) at the same time they get rid of useful stuff like manuals to 'promote a better, cleaner planet'

It's a bushload of bushwah, if you ask me, and one reason I opted out of buying anything new today. Even my Nintendo Switch was purchased second hand (and it's a V1, not the V2 or whatever the modern one is called)

There's no device made in the last 10 years that will ever stand the test of time like vintage tech can still do. I got tech that dates to the freaking 1950s that works with minimal repair and sometimes works out of the box, because it was made to be serviced, repaired and kept. Tech then was meant to be passed down or sold secondhand. Today? toss it into the trash and buy another one. How anyone sees that as sustainable is a mystery. Worse is that culture frowns on anyone keeping anything old enough. People comment all the time that '2007 called, they want their laptop back' at me using my 16 year old Dell laptop running Windows 7. Hey, it works, futurist, go frell off!

It's even worse when I tell people I don't do subscriptions, or don't support the 'you'll own nothing, and be happy' model that promotes software and tech as a service (see: Windows 10, Google Stadia, Apple Arcade, Youtube Music (no more buying songs), and stuff such as Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and Paramount+ to name a few). I do physical media, and the closest I got to streaming is purchases tied to many platforms, including Amazon Video, Amazon MP3, Apple iTunes and using period-correct hardware (as in 2009-13) to play it all. No HDCP mess, not even HDMI. I'm using CRT TVs also.

I refuse to live in the dystopia that they're trying to build out. That makes me a freak to most people, and a pariah to others. The lines such as "adapt to the future or be left behind' and 'why don't you get with the times, man' are typical futurist rhetoric that grows tiresome. Why does it matter to them what I do or don't do? I refuse to participate in their bright, 5000K LED, clinical hospital designed home life, complete with those annoying swoopy 'live laugh love' decor. I refuse to use a smartphone bigger than my hand, and if I could, I'd give up smartphones entirely and just use my rotary because tech today sucks and is still not getting better. My 16 year old Dell has more character and quality than any modern laptop I tried, and that includes the MacBook Pro.
Yeah it is easy to get stuck in the past, I think I waited almost far too long to get my Vista, I got it a few years ago, wereas my psp just died on me slowly. It does a loud roar sound in the disc, I cannot find the charger chord for it anymore, somewhere scraping in my mind's eye, there is my gameboy sp Adapter with the wire charger, my brother in law got me a nintendo sp, yeah with Zelda within it, was his old roomates from ages ago. the last electronic I did pick up was my Samsung Galaxy Tablet, a few years ago, on St. Patrick's Day. was with my friend's death. I have not bought any electronic big items since then.. Just wanted something that I can do several things and having so vertisble with that note as well too. So I am against buying anything new, unless I can do a ton of researching, and since I have been talking about my Google pixel, but I am also persauding to purchase another new Moto cell too, but depends on what I do feel like at that time...

Galaxy S20+ need to change password on email account

Thanks for the reply, Mike. But when I choose the gear for Settings, I don't have a category called "Account and Imports". I do see "Accounts and backup". I've looked in there but didn't see anywhere to change passwords. The icon for the email app I'm using is a red circle with a white envelope. I think that's the Samsung email app. I don't understand why it doesn't ask me to enter a password when the sync fails.
