Locked out of phone due to 3 sim card pin mistakes

Yeah around here they don't supply them with the SIM at all. If you're unlucky enough to get SIM-locked and it asks for a PUK or PUK2 code you might as well buy a new phone/SIM. Carriers get rather hostile if you ask them for one. Last time it was asking for the 'unlock/subsidy' code that popped up when I placed my SIM into a supposedly 'unlocked' LTE tablet. They got overtly hostile, insisted I was doing something illegal, and hung up. I had to get a SIM compatible with AT&T and port out my number in the end to overcome it. They certainly wouldn't help me.

Drive(n)

USB Mass Storage died off with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean (4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for some Samsung phones such as the Galaxy SIII) and 6.0 Marshmallow on AOSP-based flip phones.

My ZTE Cymbal LTE running AOSP 5.1.1 Lollipop (base Android, no Google apps, no app store, no package installer) is the most modern phone that supports Mass Storage (although it doesn't need me to tap to enable but that's because it doesn't have a touch screen).

USB Mass Storage made the phone show up as a USB flash drive in any OS, Linux, Windows, etc. MTP is a half baked attempt to do the same but requires drivers and doesn't "like" Linux at all. Windows for me tends to do nothing or make it show up like it's a digital camera and only allows me to copy pictures and sometimes documents. Can't send music to it when connected to a PC. MTP sorta works on other OSs like Linux (if you're lucky with the distro lottery) but the results are extremely slow, likely to freeze sending any large files over. It's about like beaming them via Bluetooth but less stable.

As stated, ten times worse. I will never get why. Nothing I found online makes sense (such as all the excuses being about not being able to use the phone when connected via Mass Storage but why would you want to? You're not going to be connected for very long so ???)

Connecting an older phone or tablet that supports USB Mass Storage would make a screen like this appear:

I miss when Android was meant for geeks and demanded you to mess with it. Features like this were wonderful while they lasted. Today it's like Google is trying too hard to be Apple and make Android look and act more like iOS. Diminishing returns ever since.

Help Unlocking boot loader on US996 (LG)

from screen with normally booted home screen

in command (dos) window adb devices
adb comes back with the device ID connected.

reboot phone into FB mode.

Fastboot devices
no message returned just the C:\adb prompt

Fast boot mode on my phone does not show the same screen (with 5-6 menu items to pick from) as it formerly did. Looks more like this with no way to select options.

* quick guidance

1) read device ID
fastboot oem device-id
2) write unlock key
fastboot flash unlock unlock.bin
3) check bootloader is unlocked
fastboot getvar unlocked

Anything else I can answer??

Firestick

Toss it out and get a Roku Xpress. Those are the same cost and are far better devices.

I got two. They offer A/V component out so you're not stuck with HDMI. For some reason, the folks behind HDMI decided that my 2009 TVs are too old to work and give me some error about HDCP. HDMI is another solution in search of a problem like USB-C. Neither are welcome in this 1960s-inspired home!

What's with ST never updating?

I have same issue but discovered a work around if you happen to have a Samsung phone...

From samsung.com
Download and install smartswitch onto a PC.
From playstore download and install Samsung smartswitch onto phone.

Launch PC program
it will tell you to cable up phone.
When you do PC program will defect phone is not current and offeres a big "update" button. Click it and it will do the needful to install updates just follow the prompts.

It took about an 70minutes to get me onto android 13 from 12.

It could be years before straight talk pushed an over the air OTA update but on can become current at will via the above method. I might do the above quarterly.

Help SOLVED Galaxy 10 Killing Apps

On my Galaxy 10+, I have an app (Panels) which is a side drawer app. Even though I use it multiple times daily, after a couple of weeks the phone kills it. I have to go back to the app icon and start it up again and then it lasts for another couple of weeks. I have checked all of the settings for battery optimization and everything looks ok. Can anyone help? thanks in advance.

Help Just Once or Always - how to undo?

Go to Settings - Application Manager - view ALL.

Find the app you loved so much to set it for "always" :) , and clear the Defaults". It's at the lower part of the screen, so if not visible, scroll.

:mustachedroid: - How perfectly MARVELOUS that you found this out! Good Show! It works like a charm. I went into apps originally and toggled something with defaults but it wasn't the right one. I thank you! :specsdroid: -T

Since when is unlocking bootloader a requirement to root a device?

I'm still trying to figure out what they did to produce that stupid screen ^^ you get when you attempt to root any modern device. I never could get past it. If that padlock is yellow, which happens just by unlocking the bootloader, it eventually boots a minute later. But if red, it outright refuses. That happened since 6.0 on my Nexus 6. Never found a fix. Nothing online helps...they say 'just wait 10 seconds or hit power' and all that did was nothing...power just rebooted back into that screen. The device was NOT corrupt it's just Google hates root. I don't even know if rooting is possible given multiple devices running modern Android did the same thing. Red padlock saying it's corrupt and not trusted and refuses to do anything.

Can I lock in a particular wifi band?

.....
My house is in a very bad signal area and phone calls are difficult. When calling from home, my phone frequently reverts to wifi calling but I still had dropout issues. It seems that the 5g setting was much better in this regard. Does that make any sense?

Yes, that does make sense. Your phone will by default opt to use WiFi connectivity over cellular connectivity, even if there were to be good, solid cellular signal in your home. Get your router set up properly so it's able to emit a better WiFi signal.

Are you referring to 5G or 5GHz? There is an actual distinction, it's just an unfortunate coincidence that there's a similar 5 and a G involved.
-- 5G is a cellular signal, short for Fifth Generation. A marketing designation that's a mostly arbitrary distinction between different cellular signal development.
-- 5GHz is a WiFi signal, based on its network frequency so it's an actual designation of measurable hertz.
But the two are not interchangeable despite false arguments that they are.

Help Why does my signal keep dropping?

If you mean call ending rather than signal bars changing VoLTE is probably not relevant.

If your signal is poor indoors then enabling WiFi calling should help (assuming your provider supports it).

Allowing 2g shouldn't be the problem: 2g is fine for calls, and the phone ought to be able to switch to/from it during a call if it needs to (but will only do it if it does need to).

To be honest it sounds like poor signal to me: you can receive the basestation's (more powerful) transmission but it can't receive enough from your phone. Is your signal weak generally? Was it always like this or just started?

Initially I did have Allow 2G enabled, but then I disabled it and made a call today and to my surprise I didn't have any issues with the other person being able to hear me. I will have to try a few more times to be sure, but as of now it looks like disabling the 'Allow 2G' feature works.
