Songs have disappeared after update

They were my husband's own songs that he put in documents, after this last update that disappeared

Anything like that, that is stored on a device, should (A) be on backup somewhere else and (B) be stored on the SD card- not on the internal memory of the device.

There is the slight chance that the files still exist, but finding them may be a challenge.

If data/files have/has been added to the device since the update, this chance is even more slight.

Help Which app has this notification icons?

Try looking through the Settings >> Apps menu of your phone. Your Apps menu will reflect what apps are actually installed on it, and most Notification icons are going to be similar or at least closely resembling their respective App icons in some way. That's basically the purpose of an icon, to be a graphical identifier of a particular app or process, and to differentiate it from other apps/processes.

END OF THE LINE

His last activity on the forum was two years ago so it's unlikely he will respond.
If you have that setting in your phone (I don't) it should determine how long of a DTMF tone is sent when you press a keypad number during a call. Usually the "normal" setting should work but if you find a particular service or device doesn't respond properly to the tones then try the "long" setting.

security system nvr question

well seem no one here messes much with nvr systems. but just for those that stop and check i did get it to work and it took hours of messing around.

i did go to the mfg site and found this nvr and they did have a firmware file and i had to download it to a thumb stick and then open the zip file and then copy all those unzipped files back to the first folder the original zip file was in. then the nvr board found the file it wanted when i went into the update section and started the process. it changed the menu and then it found my ip cameras and let me change the un and pw and they started showing.

so it is now working. thanks

Yay! Got upgraded to 11!

Want to hear something funny? I don't use my thumbs on my smartphones! Can't use my right one--I broke it when I was 17, and the joint fused, so I can't bend it normally. So I've never used thumbs for typing (or anything else) on a phone.
This really does underline how ergonomics are individual! ;)

(Actually I'm often wary when I read the phrase "ergonomically designed": as a left-hander, or at least a left-biassed ambi, that phrase often means "not designed with people like you in mind").

Where are my contacts stored?

Many contacts apps let you select which account to view contacts from. If Samsung give you that option you can just view the phone contacts and get the full list. With 1400 of them I'd be inclined to export them en masse and reimport them to the Google account (which I see is the method @ocnbrze's article suggests) rather than move them one-by-one, assuming that they aren't mostly duplicates.

For what it's worth, you are lucky that you have the option: the Contacts app on Pixels, and I suspect Android One devices, doesn't even offer the option of contacts that aren't shared with a networked account (you can add a different Contacts app, but most users won't realise that this is possible, never mind realise that it gives them this option). This is bad because not everyone wants their details shared with Google, and I like to have the option to respect that (also why I despair of people who say "I don't care if my favourite app is mining my data", because it's not just their data that they store on their phone). Of course it's not hard to see why Google would want to remove this feature...

Lenovo Chromebook Duet keyboard

yeah on my pixelbook, i have never tried a different keyboard. i like the physical keyboard that it comes in. i rarely use it in tablet mode. i needed to type something i just flip it back to desktop mode.

just curious as to why you dislike the on screen keyboard so much.
Easy, customization. The default keyboard I can't do simple things like: after selecting a predicted word above the keyboard inserting a space after, inserting a space after using punctuation, auto-capitalization after ending a sentence, when selecting a predicted word if you choose to edit the word (say you select present tense and you go back to add an -ed to make it past tense) it treats the "ed" as a second word that you accidentally combined (example: I choose "present" from the predicted word list and backspace and add "ed" it will treat "ed" as a new word and auto-completes it to "presentEd" because it treated "ed" as a separate word and thus should be a name, "Ed".) Lots of corrections instead of it doing what I expect.

Help needed to explain a battery problem Galaxy Note 8

Even though the battery has been replaced, the batteries for a device are only produced for around as long as the devices are.

There is a good chance that the recent batteries that have been installed are actually just as old as the device is.

Even a battery sitting in a warehouse will age chemically.

At this point, if you are to keep using the device, I am afraid that the thing to do is leave it plugged into a charger whenever it is being used.

A 10' cord of excellent quality can be had at BigLots, iHome brand.

Leaving a device on charge continuously is also not great for the battery, but at this point it seems that point is rather mute.

As for the 'Factory' thing, have you tried using a different launcher?
This could help with this and even freshen the device up for you a bit during these latter times of its life.

Are the Developer Options unlocked on the device?

The 'Factory' thing going on looks like something that may be a setting in there.

It may even be just a quick setting tile in your quick settings (the pull down menu).

Thanks a bunch for the explanations.
We have decided, after reading those posts, to just keep the tablet until it dies.
In the meantime, we will look for a replacement; we even though of perhaps go with a small laptop instead.

Again, thanks for the help ... much appreciated! :)

How to extract SMemo Notes locally on Galaxy S7 Active

maybe try smart switch? not sure if it works on older phones.
Sorry to reply so late, I've been very busy
I guess I wasn't sure what to write since you replied to my question with a question. I know nothing about smart switch except that it is a Samsung-compatible software.
It's not on my phone so far so I'd need to know more about it before going to get it on the Google store. Does it require using the cloud or being logged in to a Samsung or Google account to work? That would be a no-no.
Other than that - does it use wireless transmission?

The preferred solutions I'm seeking are:

1)__I would prefer to use file manager functionality to copy out the SMemo data files, so,
does anyone know where the the SMemo data files are saved, on a GalaXY s7 active phone?
Are they visible and copy-able via file manager software?

2)__Is there a backup software that can single out a specific app like sMemo to backup its files and can do it to an external flash drive?

I don't have much computer time available, so I might not be able to answer your reply quickly, but please know that I will greatly appreciate it when I get it! Thank you!

Autonomous - simplified device automation

Nice! I would like to have an app to control all the devices in my house just using the mobile phone. I have a lot of remote controls from every automated thing in my house, and I always lose them. I have one for my gates, from the garage, for lights in the house, and one for the second garage. Such an app that would permit me to control all of these just with an app would be great. I went to the shop where I bought all these automated equipment, to search for universal remote control, but unfortunately, I couldn't find one.
