Help with Rooting LG G5 Sprint LS992

ok and to be sure after step 8, you rebooted the phone into recovery mode and wiped data......correct?

Yes, I did. I have done it several times actually, and each time it still did not work.

also which update are you on? this only works for v4, if you have v5 or higher this guide will not work for you.
I am on Android version 6.0.1, is that v4? I tried to look it up and it seems like it is.

Help Stylo 6...terrible call quality...person speaking to me sounds like a robot..I can't hear some words

So I am back. Turns out that my phone has a 5G sim in it whereas the connectivity in my area is not officially 5g yet but rather on the fringes.

Boost told me to go ahead and go to the store for $4 and get a new SIM card so that I was not on their extended network. They said that would force my phone back on CDMA until 5g is available in my area in about a month.

I looked at my settings and moved my settings over to WCDMA and no more issues! Well, I couldn't use my phone as a temporary hotspot today but that was quickly remedied by moving the setting back to LTE briefly.

Android firmware Hack/Update

A good backup and restore solution for Samsung devices is to use Samsung's Smart Switch utility:
https://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/smart-switch
but since you're apparently thinking of skipping on using a stock Samsung ROM that might not be so seamless and effective. Maybe look into the SMS Backup and Restore app to back up text messages and phone call logs. (note that attachments are not included)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&hl=en_US&gl=US
WhatsApp includes its own backup/restore function in its app:

Alright thanks. I managed to backup my stuff.

Since you're apparently looking into something other than Samsung's stock ROM
(note you should have been looking for a ROM to match your country and carrier, not for an exact match to build or base I.D.s)
But whatever. Check if your phone is supported:
https://download.lineageos.org/

Here however, I'm having problems. I tried searching to determine if my phone is supported or not. Nothing in there indicates that as such. I also joined discord channel for lineage and asked about this there. Unfortunately no one responded. :(
