I do not have it installed on my note 10+.....on my note 8 i did. i did smart switch and thought it got transferred over and just forgot about it, but it is not there....weird. i'm gonna install it right now.

It installed OK on my Android7 Oukitel Mix2, but won't talk to bluetooth, maybe something to do with the Mediatek Helio P25 SOC?

I've not had the rear "selfie" camera do anything like that on phones I've had. Is it like a bokeh effect, where the background is really out of focus and blurry, or is just slightly out of focus? It could be an effect that's been applied by the Xiaomi camera app the Mi uses? I know some manufacturer camera apps automatically apply a beauty effect to selfie pics, that's ON by default.

Suggest you post a sample pic, so we might have a better idea of the issue. Also try another camera app?

Hi bcrichster and many thanks for that. I've no way of knowing which of the others may or may not be better so I'll stick with the one you've highlighted. Assuming I can get TWRP installed first. I hate falling at the first hurdle...

AFAICT those aren't stock Samsung emoji. Maybe it is some third-party emoji theme? Something that was installed from Samsung Apps? Suggest you do a factory reset, especially with a phone from Ebay, like is it really "new".

It was sort of clean when I left. By that time I had other concerns. At least I should know for next time.

Wasn't meant as a fix, just to see whether or not the stock app has a problem (config, whatever) or whether you need to look elsewhere, i.e., a system setting somewhere. Also, have you played around with Tasker or some other system behavior app in the past that may have caused this problem? Those types of apps can, on occasion, not clean up properly after themselves. Also, check battery optimization, put it to "no optimization" for your stock messaging app.

No, I never did. I read something about "shared camera access", but AFAIK, it's basically pausing the camera, letting another process use it, then retaking control. Also, in Android 11 we will be able to access both the front and back cameras at the same time (probably doesn't help you, though!).

Log into your Google account from a browser and select "contacts" from the list of apps (little grid of grey squares). See whether they are still there. If they are then you just need to re-download them. If you can't see them, scroll down to the bottom of the sidebar on the left and look for "trash". Deleted contacts should stay in there for 30 days, so if they were deleted in the last month you can rescue them.

If they've been deleted for more than 30 days then they are gone. I've never seen any reliable evidence that any of the apps out there that claim to be able to recover deleted contacts can do so (claims published by the app providers or by shills who are paid to promote recovery apps in online forums are not reliable evidence).
