Help Special Case Android File Recovery

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

I humble myself before the vast wealth of knowledge and experience on this forum, and, as a new user, hope to present you all with an issue you may not have seen before. I will state my problem in points to keep myself on track and so noone gets lost. :)

- I need to recover files from my android device, specifically the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 (I'm British and back home in England, though this was bought in the Philippines maybe 2017.)

- The files include pictures and videos which I previously deleted to make room for lecture videos.

- I cannot access the tablet via software, as the tablet itself repeatedly disconnects from the PC. It seems to do this when there is any interaction, and any direct access to the tablet (which I can gain from Windows Explorer) enables me to see, but not copy files to the desktop.

Important Subpoints:

- The device has MTP enabled

- I have already disabled power management on the USB ports.

- There are one or two USB ports which come back with a malfunction error, but the working USB2 and USB3 ports are all equally problematic.

- My older cable had the same issue, it has since been replaced with a brand new one, neither work

- Attempting to interact via software which handles data copying results in the device being disconnected, after which it immediately reconnects

- Direct attempts to copy return two errors at different times: One being 'A device connected to this system is not functioning', and 'Cyclical redundancy check'.

It is infuriating and frustrating. I have attempted to conjure up a way around this and I will float an idea with you all which may or may not be viable, and in either case I am unsure how to proceed...

I considered other software aid, but with the connection issues and lack of drive letters, it isn't possible to use software like Recover My Files to get back what's lost directly from the tablet.

However, I thought, if I were able to make an image of the tablet and somehow get it from the tablet to the PC, I could use Recover My Files to work on restoring the deleted media.

Would this even be possible?

Sorry if this post is in the wrong place, it's absolutely fine if it is moved somewhere else so long as I can find it. I look forward to receiving some of your wisdom and really hope someone here could help me to get my old stuff back.

Huge thanks to everyone in advance, and if anymore info is needed, just tell me what's needed and I will provide it as soon as possible. And I warmly welcome all questions so fire away :)

Cheers :D

If you actually stored these lecture videos. Any previously deleted data will have been overwritten, and no longer exists. In this situation data recovery is impossible, because the deleted data is just not there, there's nothing to recover.

Galaxy S9 Update: Android 10

Got it. Not bad, everything went as expected. Looks the same obviously, due to Samsung OneUI being the default for us. There are times when it's not quite as responsive as it should be, but overall it's solid enough to get the job done. Not that it really matters much at this point, as I'll be upgrading to the S20 whenever it comes out... Not sure why we have to wait longer than the S20+ and S20 Ultra but *shrugs* I'll deal.

Turning off the voice response in Google Assistant.

Yes, I had it set to hands free voice response only and for a few months it was working as desired. Google apparently updated something and it is what it is now, unfortunately.
yeah i do not have that option on my note 10+. but the way i see it, if you ask google verbally, then you will get a verbal response. if you ask google via typing, then you should get a text response. i do not recall anyway to ask verbally and get a text response.

@MrJavi i think the device assistant app is not what it appears as it states. i think this app allows the phone to analyze and read the info on the screen so that an app such as doing a google search can use the screen data to perform a search. kind of like using google goggles. it is just a system app. it is not like an accessibility app that will actually read what is shown on the screen, word for word. even in the op's case, accessibility i do not think will help.

curious, was this feature working the way you wanted it to before?

I see your point and well put my friend. To telll you the truth, if there was a valid root solution with a custome recovery on a snapdragon Note 8 and above, I'd own one. Thank you for good information :)

MX Player Pro notification beeps continually during playback

Before my Galaxy S9 upgraded to Android 10 I could leave MX Player Pro running in the background and pull down the notification bar to pause, stop or play.

Now, with all the settings the same there is a notification beep every few seconds if I navigate away from the player screen. The only way I can find to disable this is to turn off Download playback in Notifications, but then the controls are no longer there if I pull down the Notifications bar and I have to navigate back to the player screen to pause, stop or play.

Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Help Call answer screen does not wake up for incoming call - can't answer

Thanks Svim - problem started in the last week. Carrier is Straight Talk. They suggest factory reset.
A Factory Reset to fix a voicemail issue? Well, the nuclear option is one way to fix a problem. Be sure to back up all your data first, and be prepared to go through the whole setup process if you've done a lot of changes in your Settings menu. I'd go about fixing your problem from the least drastic then to more extreme measures, but if the opposite way works and you don't lose anything than a Reset is a nice way to clean out a lot of other issues that might have been building up over time.

Did you try re-doing your Voicemail set-up process?

I don't know if Straight Talk includes other options in its Voicemail service but check there if there are any relevant options to enable/disable.

Update issues

I have my OG Droid that has a special place for me, though not for as good a reason as you. I still use it as an alarm clock, so as suggested above, maybe repurpose the tablet for something within it's capabilities so it can live on while you get a device to handle your more current day to day needs. A tablet would be great to mix with Google Photos to show slideshows.

(App Idea) Movement Tracker for Phillips Hue

Hello,

I just came up with an interesting idea that I believe could have some potential but sadly I don't have any coding skills and was wondering if maybe there's already an app like this out there, or there is potentially a developer who would be willing to give this a try! :)

My idea essentially involves sensing changes in the wifi levels combined with something like an altimeter to know where your phone and by association you are in the house and using this information can change the light level of the Hue smart lamps depending on whether or not you're in the room or not. This app already measures the wifi strength which could be used as a starting place.

When you first start up the app it could ask you to stand in roughly the middle of a room, and then specify which lamps are currently in the room. It then takes a wifi level and altimeter reading, and now knows where that room is and it's lamps. Now repeat the procedure with every room with a smart lamp in the house. Now the app has various "points" which signify the centre of a room in the house at different floor levels. When your phone then comes close to one of these points by analyzing the wifi strength, it will automatically turn on the lights in that room, and turn off the lights in all other rooms.

Let me know if you want some clarification, I look forward to feedback and more ideas!

Help Saving Webpage to Home Screen

You are probably much better off saving your websites as bookmarks in your browser.

You will run out of space on your homescreen quickly, otherwise.

And you can bet that if you are using Chrome and there is an app on the Play Store for the page you want to save- Bam! Downloads the app instead.

Go figure, right?

So, either save your sites as bookmarks, or just use a different browser.
I use Lightning, from F-Droid, and I have never had that issue.
And Lightning has unlimited bookmarks and tabs.

Creating custom content provider to support multiple formats on copy paste

Hi,

I want to implement copy paste in my app to support multiple formats and the target app can choose one of the formats to paste.
The use case is - A user copies an item from my app and he pastes it to another app owned by me. The item gets pasted in a custom format.
A user copies the same item from my app and pastes it to another app, let's say Gmail and item gets pasted as an image.
I need to implement a content provider so that the target app can choose the format it wants to paste. How can I achieve this?
