Urgent-ish advice/recommendations please

Looking for suggestions for a substitute/replacement for my beloved G(8) power lite. For me it has been the perfect phone. I've had and loved not one but two of them - the first came to me by the kindness of strangers* and the second was a very lucky as-new eBay buy. I bought the identical model as a spare because I was completely happy with the first but it had started being sulky about charging; the lead wobbled in the port. I could still get it to charge, but only by very pernickity positioning and then not breathing in the same room (preferably not in the same house, or county...) until it was charged.

After a while the "spare" became my main phone. This time I was ultra careful connecting/disconnecting, and I don't go for cheap leads (poor value for money), and it doesn't get thrown in my bag to be jiggled and buffetted very often at all - but after a happy year-ish, I'm seeing the same with this one. Honestly, I'd replace with the same again, it's been so good - but on eBay I've seen a few with the same problem. (One described as "in perfect working order", charges perfectly as long as you're careful to get the charging lead at the right angle(!) ... and then I saw there were others.) It must the model, not my clumsiness after all.

So now I'm looking for something that will
(i) be perfect;
(ii) last for ever;
(iii) cost nothing...

I don't habitually keep up with the market or reviews, I just do my research thoroughly when I need to. I've started looking on Back Market, Amazon and eBay, but you lot will save me a lot of time researching. :)
My son mentioned the Moto G31 but he's into "good" rather than "value over time" and I think he's basing that on features, rather than reviews from people who have tried it for longer than a couple of weeks.

Criteria:
  1. My preference is always refurb (or even better "new other"/"as new" of course).
  2. and as I say, thinking long term - spend now to avoid spending again until I really can't not.
  3. My budget is zero. Yeah, right. Let's say around £100. I don't imagine there's anyone into phones and knowledgeable about buying them (ie anyone on here) who knows much about that price bracket! I do find myself willing to go above that if I'm really certain of a wise choice - and if I'm sure it's a good investment, I'll even buy new. Actually I have seen a refurbished power lite for £128, but I'm reluctant that I can't trust the charging port. Also no idea how many apps will break when Android 10 goes out of fashion - I hope not to change the phone again for a long while.
  4. Highest priority, probably screen quality and reliability.
  5. Speed is nice too, but I'm not the most impatient person in the world and I don't often stream or game.
  6. Next would come weight as I have painful hands from too much thumbtyping, especially in the last year since the laptop became less accessible forcing me to default to the phone. (But I'm resigned to nothing being great that way so maybe not worth mentioning.)
  7. And then audio quality, as phone calls are pretty terrible with rural wifi (wifi calling) and almost no cell signal.

I've pretty much decided to get myself a 1TB SD card too, for simplicity as I'm having trouble with backup and sync in general (long story and off topic!). So storage capacity doesn't matter very much.

Apps Wear OS battery optimization

Hello,

I'm developping a tracking application that runs on Wear OS watches. I have some troubles when the watch goes to sleep. As soon as the watch goes to Deep Idle mode, all sensors acquisition stops. For that I'll need to whitelist the app using:

Code:
                                Intent intent = new Intent();
                                intent.setAction(Settings.ACTION_REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONS);
                                intent.setData(Uri.parse("package:" + packageName));
                                context.startActivity(intent);

This piece of code works well on mobile version but nothing happen on Wear OS version. I realized that Wear OS as no UI to set the battery optimization mode which should be the cause of the fact that nothing happens when trying to change the optimization.

I also used a wake lock to keep the CPU partially awake with:

Code:
                PowerManager powerManager = (PowerManager) getSystemService(POWER_SERVICE);

               wakeLock = powerManager.newWakeLock(PowerManager.PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK, "MY-WAKELOCK");

But even with that the watch goes to deep sleep after about 15min ?

The last solution I see is to force the screen on or at least dimmed but it will drain the battery very fast.

Is there another solution to keep sensors working ? How can I whitelist my app on a Wear OS device as no UI seems available ? As anyone already encountered this issue?

OnePlus 6T Battery State

Hey all, I bought my phone in Dec. 2018 and in the 3.5 yrs I have it I finally checked my battery state with the OnePlus diagnostic app. And it's at 93% :) I have attached a screenshot of it . So I only lost 7% of it's life in over 3.5yrs? This can't be right I would have thought it would be below 80%. I guess this is good news. Still though I might buy the OnePlus 10T when it arrives in the US.

Warning...Storage Full!

Galaxy J3 2017.
Warning16GB storage is full to around 15.4.
Have cleared the cache on virtually all apps.
Removed a couple not used.
Looking via my PC can only find about 4.1 GB used by apps.
Docs/Images/Videos etc are all empty.
How can I find the 11 or 12 GBs that don't show or is that simply the operating system that can't be interfered with?

Have an extra SD card storage but it is only at 50% everything that can be moved to the card has been moved.
PS. I have removed updates from quite a few apps with little effect.
PSS. Will replace phone in a few weeks but need it running well until then!

Please?

Manage Contacts/Labels

I run two Android 10 phones. One is my main personal mobile which uses all the contacts from my Google account - those with and without phone numbers, and email addresses.

My second phone is to be used as my home phone. I have created a Label in the Google app Contacts, named "Home Phone" and tagged all those contacts (with phone nos) who i would wish to ring from this phone. At the moment, on the home phone, when I select the phone icon - contacts - it shows ALL the people in the global list as in my personal phone.

All I wish to see is those who are tagged with label "Home Phone".

How can I achieve that?

Help Persistent Charging Connected Device Via USB" Notification

I have this charging via USB notification that has been going on since I purchased this phone (2 years ago) and I have been unable to find a fix for it it appears whenever I turn on my phone and it makes it so that I am unable to charge my phone the only time I've been able to charge it is when the phone is turned off or if I force stop Android system and then restart the phone. At one point I did manage to make the notification stop for like 2 months but now the notification is back and I don't remember how I fixed it, does anybody have any ideas?

Help Can I access old phone messages?

If I have been using a old phone and now I take out the sim card from the old phone and insert the SIM card into my new phone. No backup was done when I was using the old phone.

1. Can I switch on the old phone and read the old SMS messages that was made in the old phone without a SIM card inserted into the old phone?

2. Can I switch on the old phone and read the old Whatsapp messages that was made in the old phone without a SIM card inserted into the old phone?

Thanks.

Galaxy S7 jack-plug size?

Hello: I need to buy a loudspeaker for my wife's Galaxy s7 phone, but choosing the right one is an ordeal. My main concern is that the jack-plug must be of the correct size, but I don't have any way of being sure of this. Can someone tell me, with certainty, which size it is, so that I can buy with confidence (with regard to it fitting, anyway)?

With thanks in hopeful anticipation,
S.

Bedtime mode

Hi all,

I've just started noticing an issue with Bedtime Mode and receiving messages from Starred Contacts.

I've got the settings configured for 'Based on schedule' and 'Do Not Disturb for Bedtime Mode' turned on. However when bedtime mode kicks in, I don't get messages or calls from my starred contacts.

I've had to disable it at the moment and using the 'Sleeping' schedule under Do Not Disturb which works, but I'd prefer to use Bedtime Mode.

Has anyone else seen this behaviour?

Help Google search results appearance

Hi, the appearance of search results in Google search just changed on my Android. I find it really annoying as every result takes much more space on the screen.

I would like to change the appearance to more condensed one (like it was before) with just the website URL, name of the site and preview. Now there is also favicon added and name of the main site (see the red boxes in the attached picture). I have searched everywhere but could not find the solution.

The problem appears in both browsers I use on my Android: Chrome and the one from the Google.

I would really appreciate any help.

Instant Panic

I mow lawns daily and stream xm tunes to Bose buds while doing so. Today I get to my last lawn and open my S21 Ultra to start the streaming service to find I have zero screen. I hop back into the truck and mess with the phone a bit and then gave up. I mowed my last lawn and came home and put the phone on the charger. I'm thinking either the phone got too hot or did not charge over night and is out of power. On the charger it's status is displayed as 86% charged and 22 minutes until fully charged. I'm instantly put at ease knowing the phone is functional. I let if fully charge and then removed it from the charger. It asked for my login and I was into the phone. The screen was barely lit. I go into setting and see that the brightness slider is all the way down. It's no wonder I couldn't see the screen in the daylight. I brightened the screen and then found a number of settings changed. I was in light mode instead of dark, I had a nav bar at the bottom of the screen and I always use swipe, and there weren't any app badge numbers on my notifications. That's the settings that I have so far discovered were changed. I'm hoping that my phone just jumped around in my pocket just right (OR WRONG) and changed those settings. If it was another culprit.. I'm in for some kind of fun finding it.

Samsung software proximity sensor is driving me nuts

My new-ish Samsung a32's software proximity sensor never lights up the display when it should. If I'm on a call and need the keypad, the screen's off. If I finish a call and want to disconnect, the screen's off. I can't imagine why Samsung thought this was good enough to actually release on a handset. Is there a solution for improving the "proximity sensor's" performance?
