When I bought a Mustang GT, it did not have the power I wanted. I paid money to improve the performance of the engine.

When I bought my Incredible, it lacked some of the battery life that I wanted. I paid money to buy an extended life battery to improve the performance of my phone.
In all three instances, I didn't whine to get what I wanted.

With all due respect, you aren't using your phone very much if it's only being used 2 hours and 35 minutes out of approximately 33 hours. But I do agree with you some on the fact that the battery isn't as bad as most make it out to be. I do get a full days charge on most days but that requires me to manually turn on/off 3G to get that.

Lol to anyone who thinks the DroidX won't have it's fair share of issues. Remember how craptastic a lot of the features were on the Droid when it came out? Camera freezing or lack luster shots, hard keyboard issues, app issues. It's a Motorola for crying out loud.
No, it's not a jacked up way of thinking. Even a 1500mAh battery wouldn't be enough to satisfy the poster. The Incredible is a small and powerful machine. It takes energy to do what it does, and that's that. Not everyone needs that kind of life out of it to warrant a backpack sized battery sticking out the back of it.
I'm considering getting an extended battery, but that's just so I have extra life at the end of the day just in case. When I go to bed I have about 10% left after about 16 hours of up-time. I feel this mirrors the usage of most people in the market. When being used side by side with friends' original Moto Droids the battery life is pretty much the same, if not better (should see how much the LCD is drawing on their usage screen).
So, quit whining. HTC didn't screw up. Verizon didn't screw up. You're just getting something because of the "customer is right policy" that you've twisted into your personal gain. I'm sure some people have called in complaining like you did, so it is a "known issue". Hence why HTC put out their own extended battery to remedy the issue for those who need the extra power.
I like the car analogy above. I'm going to call up Subaru and throw a whiny fit and tell them that after 60MPH my STI won't keep up with a Corvette. I'm a power user and I need it to do more. They can take it back or upgrade it for me. Sheesh. Or tell them I'm unhappy with the gas mileage that was on the friggin window and tell them to put a bigger tank in. (Yes, you sound this ludicrous and childish.)

True, over the last day I didn't use the phone a ton. The display time doesn't account for time using the music player with the screen off, though which was a bit here and there. I also always have Gmail push on and a few apps syncing throughout the day.
Anyway, not that it's a competition, just trying to point out the battery life isn't "terrible." When my display is on, I'm usually surfing the net, which sucks battery life as well. So not all "display use" is equal.
I also frequently use the GPS and bluetooth and get similar battery life.
Someone in another thread seemed shocked anyone's battery could last more than a day with more than an hour of display use. Who knows? I just know I'm not complaining and find some people expect a bit too much.

1. 65nm Snapdragon at up to 1ghz
2. 3.7" display
3. Live wallpapers (most that complain about battery use them)
4. Social apps in background (same as above)
5. 3G
6. GPS
7. Videos
8. Games
9. Texting
10. Camera
11. Web browser with Flash
12. Audio / Music
13. Widgets (same as further above)
Some users may be not appreciate what it takes to run the devise with a bunch of stuff will last a whole day (unless you only make a few calls and little else). Not to mention battery use is one of the most subjective things evah'.
If people want a wimpy 1300mah battery to last the day powering the hardware:
1. Do no use live wallpapers
2. Do no use widgets (at least NOT the social apps)
3. Leave GPS off
4. Leave auto sync off
5. Turn social apps off and refresh manually

It sounds to me like you have a rogue app eating your battery. I would download Spare Parts from the app store. When your battery hit 25% open it up and then goto "Battery History" then change the top dropdown to "Partial Wake Usage." If you see an app with a full bar then that app is preventing your phone from going to sleep while not in use. At that point you can then figure out what to do with that app.
For instance I found Slacker Radio would stay running in the background after quitting (even from the menu-->quit) and it prevented the phone from sleeping. For a while I just made sure to kill it manually using a task manager. Eventually I decided to switch to Pandora instead.
After using my phone for a few weeks I started using Taskiller and I set-up the ignore list for the items I wanted to stay running and set it to autokill everything else and now I don't have problems with those apps and my battery easily last a day. I get fewer emails 15-20, maybe a dozen texts, surf the web for a hour or 2, and 2 hours of Pandora. The only thing that will prevent me from a full day is a couple games of Robo Defense which is a huge battery drain...but fun

I'm doing okay with the low voltage kernel and 1500 mAh battery, but good job working the rep. When the Incredible came out, they were willing to lose a 15 year customer over their misrepresented $30 off SMART30 promo...

I finally did get my $30 off after a lot of direct frustration and "acting" very irrate over the issue
I paid $70 for my Inc in the end 
As for the "free" extended battery...I don't know that I would want the extended battery since with it my bodyglove case would not fit and it will make the phone pretty heavy...plus I know the depths of effort it would take to work over a VZW rep to get one...

I got pretty good battery life with my 1300 mah and now I get fantastic (easily over a day) of battery life with my 1500 mah which only costs $15 on ebay or $25 on amazon and it fits in the original back plate.
No smart phone lasts long with heavy usage - sometimes Verizon reps just nod their heads and admit things that aren't true just to make the customer happy. The customer is always right.
They do it out of courtesy to keep loyal customers sometimes. If it was actually a well documented problem, every person in the world with a smart phone would be getting free 2150s.
Battery life just isn't caught up to technology yet. But so far I'm still very pleased with my battery life.

I would sell the extended battery on ebay, buy the htc touch pro 2 1500 battery, or the seido 1750 and pocket the extra cash.
I bought the touch pro 2 battery new on ebay from the seller bidalles or something like that. I think the battery was legit and new. There were no scratches on the batter contacts from being used. The 1500 battery is a noticeable improvement over the stock battery. I would usually have to charge my phone at about 4pm when it would be at about 20%, but now, i can make it to 9 or 10pm and still have about 30%.

My signal/network problem I'm having that's causing my phone to reboot destroyed my battery. It's constantly on the charger at home because it just gets eaten away at.
I told verizon this and asked if I could get set up with an extended battery and he said let's see what happens. They're actually sending engineers out to my yard I guess to take tests. He said it looks like my switching system is the same as in NC that was causing all the problems. So I at least got a fix going. Now when they call me back to tell me what's going on, I should have some leverage and be talking to a higher up, so hopefully I can get a couple extended batteries out of it.

This depends on the situation and how you look at it. If the battery in your droid inc is malfuntioning, then yes, it should be replaced for free. I don't know if verizon was admitting that there was a known issue where the battery malfunctions, or that it is just known that the battery life is terrible in general and they'll replace it for consumers who complain enough. I'm thinking there is a known issue where it malfunctions and this is why the guy got the free battery? Everyone should know what they're getting into before they buy. Don't buy a hummer and expect it to have terrific gas mileage and ask the manufacturer to fix it. On the other hand, if it is malfunctioning, messing up the mileage even more, then yes, the manufacturer is responsible and should fix the situation.
You guys are just misunderstanding each other
First of all, you might want to read the zero tolerance policy.
Second, low battery life is a result of usage. Yes, some are defective and others are a case of poor settings or widget overload. I think bad battery life is more a function of the phone doing so much more than previous phones.
Not a good analogy. Why? A Mustang GT has adequate power for what it is. A Jeep has adequate off-road capabilities for what it is. You bought them with the understanding that your needs exceed the capabilities of the vehicles. If you bought the latest model Lamborghini, you wouldn't expect to find it powered by a Honda Civic motor, maybe boosted with a turbo, would you? The Incredible (read: the name) is touted as a high-performance, top of the food-chain phone.
That being said- I understand that at least part of the problem may lie with the usage, apps, and/or settings. (I too am experiencing short battery life with only moderate usage). Perhaps his demanding that Verizon supply him with a free upgrade battery was a little harsh, but nonetheless, I think Verizon does owe it to their customers to help find a solution- whether it's replacing the battery, or coming up with an app that will maximize the battery life by determining the power culprit(s). As a 'manufacturer', you can not assume that every one has the technical skills to understand, or find an answer on their own. Sometimes you have to over-engineer a product to satisfy ID 10ts and PEBKAC users who are unable to get what you claim is possible with your product, without intervention.
