"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

Any theories on why VZW wouldn't be offering a pre-sale?!..

Maybe just the disaster of the Incredible?! I read somewhere Motorola guaranteed stock or something?!..

Maybe they learned from the Evo and didn't want to take preorders so they wouldn't underproduce.

Because to me a manufacturer sees 300k preorders and makes 400k phones for the first shipment, but not even one preorders and that causes bad press.

And if we're lucky some sort of statement on how DroidLanding isn't just saying where things are being shipped early. :D

I agree, especially because the locations that got the early shipments were way too close to some of the clues. We are all hoping they are still out there but honestly big business just has a habit of letting people down.

"Droid X designate #15 is near mountains. Next to some other mountains. Next to its hdmi port"

Denver is next to the Rockies and the Colorado Rockies play baseball in Denver. I think we have the city confirmation clue for #15

edit: Also, the HDMI theme again. All the HDMI clues, plus the EYE clues and you'll know it when you see it clues just reinforce my opinion that we are going to see something along the lines of the red eye from the Droid X live wallpaper projected onto some sort of display.

#15 is in Spokane, Wa. Spokane is Between the Cascades mountains and the Rocky Mountains.

For those of you hunting #13, I give you a snippet of Longfellow's poem "Excelsior," which literally means "even higher."

The shades of night were falling fast,
As through an Alpine village passed
A youth, who bore, 'mid snow and ice,
A banner with the strange device,
Excelsior!

Banner with the strange device!!!??? Hello...

All reviews point to the X not having Flash lite (probably because they know it'll be upgraded to 2.2 very soon)... Guess the production units could be different though, but that wouldn't make sense.
But yeah, agreed on all of the other info he provided. Sounds like regurgitated review speak.

I ran across this review on android central, where it shows a walk-through video of a Droid X with flash lite. The reviewer mentions this around 2:24.

Any theories on why VZW wouldn't be offering a pre-sale?!..

I'm thinking they want everyone going to the stores to buy them so they can have big lines to show on the news to compete with the lines you saw when the iphone 4 came out.

Its like when they make people wait in a huge line outside the club and hardly anyone is inside. It makes it look like its the place to be to people driving by.

My Incredible was pre-ordered, and it showed up early. I heard that quite a few of them did. It could be DX's from Inc/Droid conversions arriving early...

I *hope* Droidlanding is a legit clue-to-find-a-droid-x site.

Wow this page is moving. Off topic does this website have a mobile version? Sucks trying to bring it up on the Storm.

I too have the original storm, can't wait to get a DX.

If you go to the very bottom left corner of any android forum page, you can change the "phandroid skin" to "AF Mobile".

I think what we are seeing with the pre-deliveries, if they are indeed legitimate, is Verizon showing how green it is with these big product releases. After all, for as long as I can remember, Verizon has had some of the best service with the most mediocre phones available (BB Storm being the most first exception I can recall).

That's not flash lite, it's the YouTube app... Not the same thing. It still won't show Flash content in the browser. The reviewer doesn't know what he's talking about.

The switched Incredible order thing sounds the most plausible to me... Because VZW isn't doing preorders and it wouldn't make sense for BB to have their preorders shipped right to doorsteps, especially since they haven't been fully paid for!

all i know is i had an inc on backorder and called vzw customer 'service' a half dozen times, every time asking immediately for a supervisor, and asked to change the order to an X...

...and without fail, every one of them said they could cancel the order and place an X order on 7/15, but not before.

i'm not buying anyone's story about a 'changed' order.

Does anyone else get the vibe that each of these Droids are being carried by an individual?

thought about that, but then someone wouldnt say " hey look at that" about a person standing/sitting there.....also they said we will know what that its it when we see it....might be someone around it but i dunno if they would have someone sitting next to it all day

not trying to be a dick to anyone, but why have the preorders of incredibles been talked about on here for pages now?

Because people are trying to figure out this rumor of people receiving Droid X's early... And Droid Inc. preorders being switched to X preorders is one of the theories...

Does anyone else get the vibe that each of these Droids are being carried by an individual?

But like others have stated...what if you get to the spot while the "person" is going potty. Also, since there have been no hints about certain times of the day so there'd have to be someone there with it 24/7...not very likely.

New to the forums here ... was looking at the SF clues (#3)

"Consulted with Droid expert. Droid #3 should be located at higher altitude."

"Droid X designate #3 is near the west coast. Droid hunters are advised to start looking at the shoreline and work inland."

"Droid X designate #3 is in California. The most powerful cybernetic machine since Arnold took office."

"Droid designate #3 is using all its 1Ghz processing power just to navigate Lombard St."

I admit I don't know a lot about SF .. but was thinking .. the first clue says it is at higher altitude .. I would think I would start looking near the highest point along the street. Also, the final clue about needing it's processing power to navigate Lombard St ... maybe on a trolley car or a stop somewhere near the trolleys or some other sort of transportation?

I don't know SF at all, so just going off of what I know about SF and Lombard.

Remember, it doesn't say it is on Lombard .. just near Lombard.

God bless your poor soul, the storm is\was the worst phone ever released... ever created. It should not have ever been released.

RIM CEO had a bad idea... no one had the balls to tell him "No"

Nice first post. Keep up the good work, we continuously need this type of input.
