Best Buy Mobile employee here! Feel free to ask me questions :)

I called my local BB and asked if they would release early like Verizon has and I was told NO. The guy told me because its the carrier they can release early but BB wouldnt. Ill just wait til the 14th and hope they call since I was the first to preorder.

Wow - when I check this weekend they said only 6 people preordered (i order 3 or 4 days after preorder was announced and was #1). Just doesn't seem to be much interest in boston.

About the same at the BB I went to as well. I am the second or third pre-order, and I did it on the first day of the second wave of pre-orders. Haven't checked back sense then though.

So i preordered the X at my local best buy on Sunday and they said that I was number 50 do you think that ill be waiting awhile or will this be something completed within the next few days after launch?

If it's like the EVO launch, I'd say you will have it within the next 2 weeks. Motorola is better at producing phones than HTC, so it should be earlier, usually they will get a second shipment before the end of the weekends.

Our EVOs are still selling out when we get them =P

Aookay,

I need your advice... I have a Droid X preordered from my local Best Buy (2nd on the list!!). I currently have an Incredible that I am going to give to my fiance when I bring her onto my family plan. I am going to port her number over from tmobile and put it on my Incredible, then I would like to transfer my current line onto the new Droid X. The problem I have is that she will be out of town from the 14th through the 16th. Can I just have best buy setup a new line and port her number over at a later time? Would it be better for me to just wait until she is back before I pickup and setup the new phone? What would you suggest? I don't know if I can handle having my Droid X sitting at the store, knowing I can just head over and pick it up. :)

I know we won't be able to port the number over at a later time, just when the new line is created. This doesn't mean Verizon can't, this I don't know, unfortunatly. I would call Verizon first and make sure they can do the port later, if they can, then you can just set up a new line and get the X, and port her number in later.

If they can't do it later, then you would have to wait until she gets back into town.

Hope that helps :)

Our first round of preorders was pretty light, but after the Sunday ad, it kind of exploded. It was crazy.

Boston is still sad that they lost the NBA finals ;)

the port cannot be assigned a temporary number. Sales reps tell people all the time that you can, but it creates a HUGE mess on the back end. My advice would be to call customer service and have them transfer you to the Porting department to ask you question. My wife works there. If you want to PM me, I can ask her directly.

Unfortunatly we can't sell it early, due to the store having to open early for it. I have heard of some Best Buy doing it before when they had a crazy amount of preorders, but other than that no.

They will :)

We set up temporary #'s for people that can't get access to their account # right away, so I know it is possible to set up a temp # and port later. It might be a hassle, but it is possible. I really don't like reading that a port can't be assigned a temp # when it actually can, thats just false info. I did it not even a week ago and the customer came back and I ported over the # for her by calling it in.

I just called my manager and he said the full retail price will be $599.99. Still waiting on a 1yr price

thats because you have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. when you do that, the rep that has to call back from lnp pretty much has to undo Everything you did and start completely over. Just becuase you get the results you intended doesn't mean you did it the right way

I can admit when I am wrong. And in this case I am. However you must verify that the number you are wanting to port is in fact portable before you give the customer a temp. number. Thats the headache I was reffering to. When sales reps don't check to verify that the number can be ported, then tell the customer to just call customer service and have them switch it for you, when in fact they can't. I am sorry if I put out any misinformation that caused any confusion. :o

How many do each store usually get on first day or does that really depend on the size and market of the area? I really hope they get another shipment before the weekend is out. I mean if the store gets like 20 phones and they have 30 left for pre order do they try to get more from other stores or do they already have a shipment coming through for the weekends?

Hey Guys!

So I ran into a problem when I went into a BB Mobile at my local Stonewood Mall. I had a really frustrating experience with BB Mobile, and may not go back.

I called on Saturday 7/3, and spoke to a rep about the pre-order of the Droid X, and she told me to come on down and it won't be any problem for me to do it. My upgrade date isn't till 9/2/10, and she went into my account to verify it wouldn't be any problem with the early upgrade thing.

Well, I went into the store Mon 7/5, and they were all set to do it, UNTIL they asked me to call Verizon and get an MBA??? What's an MBA??? The reps told me they can't help me, and told me to go to a Verizon store to get my phone. I'm not happy about this, because it took them 2 hours to tell me that!

Soooo, my question is...what is an MBA, and why was it now needed? And why, am I the one responsible for doing all the legwork and calling and straightening out Verizon, when a Best Buy rep is there to help me? :(

It will always depend on three things:

Production speed
Size of the store/market
Preorders

usually we don't try to get them from other stores, because they are short supplied as well, we will have more on order because of the difference between phones vs presales, and will get more quickly. It's usually within a week.

As I said before, I wish we had enough phones for every single person =/

Eeek. Well, first I'm sorry to hear they didn't do everything they could to help you.

Do you mean NBA? NBA is our system is also known as Next Best Action, and usually what flags the account for special promotions such as the early smartphone upgrade.

I think they must of looked on the account and your account wasn't flagged for the early smartphone upgrade. The process is we look at the account, and the NBA will say "hey, this is what you can do for them for an upgrade". It's not a normal upgrade, so that's why we have to do it through that process.

The reason they want you to call customer service, is because if we talk to them, they will just ask for all your information anyways, so it makes it easier. We don't have any extra pull with the customer service, so it doesn't help if we talk to them unfortunatly. We definitly can, it just will yield the same result.

Essentially, your account is not flagged in Verizon's system for the early smartphone upgrade promotion. I know there is a thread going on in this forum about the Droid X/Smartphone early upgrade promotion, and not a lot of reps seem to know much about it. I think that is why it isn't showing on your account as of right now.

I'm not saying Verizon is at fault for this, but until they flag your account for the promotion, we can't do the upgrade for you. In fact, I don't think you will be able to do it through verizon until it's flagged on your account, but I would call and check with them to make sure the 15th goes smoothly for you :)

I'm sorry you have to put in the extra effort, and we are there to help you, but there is only so much stuff we have power to do. Making account changes like that is not something we can do.

I hope that helps, let me know what the result is! :)

oooo
This makes more sense. I can see the mix up. If we are setting up a temporary, I always make sure to do the number port check first, because it doesn't hurt, and will save them less trouble later.

Apologies for the mix up.

Like I said, its a hassle, but it is possible. Yeah, nowhere in your original post did you mention non portable #'s, you just said porting later isn't possible, thats why I was upset about that comment.

Question for you Aookay. When porting have you ever come across Beast saying the line isn't eligible to port, but when you go into Eroes, Snap, etc... they are??? I really hate when that happens because they want us to only use Beast, but it is so unreliable at times

Is Best Buy going to be opening early on the 15th for the folks who preordered or is determined on a store by store basis?

so we are all on the same page now. Good to know and I will be sure to not do that again. I hate the taste of crow and feet together

I've never run into a number not being able to be ported, period. I guess I just have good luck :)

I think I am at a 90 percent beast usage rate, the EVO launch brought it down a lot :(

Hi, I am looking to upgrade to the DX after three long years with my Samsung Alias. I know that I'm due for an upgrade with 2-year contract renewal and am wondering whether I'll be able to buy my DX at Best Buy or not.

I have to add the $29.99/month data package to my line and I am not the primary line holder on the family account. Will I be able to waltz into a Best Buy that has the DX in stock and get my upgrade to the DX without any issues?

If there is an issue arising from me being a secondary line holder, are there things that I need to provide to prove my legitimacy, like a monthly bill, last four digits of the account holder's social, etc?

Thanks for the info, I did not know that your account has to be flagged for this. I just called Verizon and spoke to a very nice lady about having my account flagged for this promotion. She took care of that, my contract ends 12/2010 and I have a pre-order at BB also.
