Root Upgrade to Stock Froyo 2.2 Guide (Includes Root instructions)

Ok quickie question to Lekky and all other 2.2 users, so you've got 720p video right? Does the SD card class matter? I.e it might not write fast enough etc? What about the apps/game on the sd card.

Notice any difference between the default 4gb class 2 card and other class 6 cards?
 
I'm not running 2.2 but i do have a digital camera that records in HD and if you use anything below a class 6 card you can have issues with frames dropping.

EDIT: Annoyingly, i've just looked and i'm running bootloader 0.80. Whats the best guide to use for rooting a 0.80, preferrably a simple guide like Lekky's oner for 0.75 bootloaders?
 
after a few issues flashed new rom, where do contacts go.
i have no phone numbers at all no way to get them off sim.

ive searched and there is no phone number progarm at all, where the **** are they?

edit sorted now. wiped data and cache
 
I used the modaco riskfree root guide last then and then proceeded to install stock android 2.2 rom using lekky's brilliant guide. Now I want the old style a2sd where everything is installed to the card. Having just rooted and now on 2.2, how do I get a2sd working? I would rather not loose any of my apps if poss and be able to move them all to the sd card. Is this possible? If so, anyone like to enlighten me? :D

If your sdcard is partitioned with an ext partition, then the defrost rom will automatically install using the old apps2sd method. The phone itself will say they are installed internally (just like a2sd on a 2.1 rom)

When i moved from 2.1 to 2.2, all my apps were installed on my ext partition. 2.2 picked them up without me doing anything. And all future app installations were installed on sdcard.

If that's the case I think I've confused my phone as before I installed anything I went into spare parts and set apps to be installed on SD. Now it says all my apps are installed on SD but I'm not sure that they are!

There won't be no. Setting the value in spare parts should mean all apps are installed on sdcard using the froyo method.

Just go into settings > applications > manage applications > and click the sdcard tab, all your apps should be listed there
 
Does your Settings>Sound stop working for you after the upgrade? If not, I wonder how I can diagnose it.

Looks like it's working now. I partitioned the card using rom manager and then re flashed the 2.2 rom. Not sure if reflashing wasn't a bit overkill but atleast everything is tidy now and on the card :)

if you partitioned the card, make sure you keep the spare parts setting to default, not external.

Nope? What do you mean, a FC?
 
Its not a port its a leaked Rom.

Ive been using it since Friday and have yet to come across a bug.

The browser is loading pages as fast as my pc
 
so tempted to root my phone and try out Froyo with Sense from this Rom, but really scared of bricking the phone, I have a bad history of breaking my gadgets by accident.

think i'm gonna wait a couple more weeks to see if HTC bring it out officially.

Its not complicated mate. Take you time and do it step by step

Dude..I was in your position but i found this guide on unlockr.com and it was explained step by step and it was really simple...Im using froyo with sense and it is amazing no crashes or forced reboots and everything tested is working fine for me, apart from voice search which i dont really use so it dont matter...

The only other thing that i was upset about was the 720p recording, hopefully in the final build they will fix that.....battery life seemed pretty decent..it lasted me about 26 hours and I just out it in charge now...i was using it quite a bit...

In conclusion, Froyo with sense is awesome
 
I had also rooted my phone for the first time to install the leaked froyo and it feels awesome, is like having a new better phone, no bugs everything is great!! it was simple and totally worth it.
 
Hi,
I had rooted and unlocked my phone and now can't get the updates. Might have been a stupid thing to do in retrospect. I updated to FRF50 manually and then was unable to get FRF91 manually or OTA.

I flashed the phone back to the ERE27 stock image and cleared all the user data to do a factory reset but I still can't get the OTA to work. Manual and OTA updates fail with the "E: signature verification failed" error. Please, please, please help me figure this out.

i rooted my HBOOT .80 no problems but didn't follow Lekky's guide becuase at the time he didnt have a guide for it.

Thanks for putting this guide together. The root and 2.2 ROM upgrade were pretty painless except the fact I had to do a factory reset after the upgrade to get some things to work. There is a definite speed improvement with Froyo. The look and feel of the UI is fantastic too. This is my first open source OS on a phone and I can't wait to see what developers come up with next..

Quick question, if i root my unlocked t-mobile phone, if it goes t*ts up what options do i have, can i take it back to htc or t-mobile?
