Accessories Car Dock Discussion Thread

I got the Tetrax Xway for my droid incredible.

I am very pleased.

I used the medium size metal piece that came with the xway. It sticks to the magnet great. I put it on a Seidio Innocase directly under the phone's flash LEDs.

I also bought the accessory pack with the extra metal attachments because I wasn't sure if the medium sized piece would be in the xway package. It was, you don't need to buy the accessory pack.

The two problems i found are:
1) because of where i attached the metal piece to the case (toward the top), If I turn the phone to landscape mode for use with navigation, the phone will eventually slide back to portrait as i drive and hit bumps in the road, because the metal piece is not at the center of the phone.

2) if i pull the phone straight back to remove from magnet, the magnetic force is stronger than the attachment to the vent, so the xway comes off the vent. To fix this i just have to pull the phone straight down or up and the xway will not be removed from the vent.

I have also found that because I am mounting the phone in front of an air vent and am using air conditioning, I am no longer experiencing the problem of the battery overheating and refusing to charge while simultaneously charging, navigating, playing music with the screen remaining on. However, i will probably have the problem again in winter using the heat.

I wonder if you can use the very small size metal piece since the magnet is so strong.

I should also mention that the way the xway attaches to the vent, is by way of twisting the rubber circle that contains the magnet, which will tighten the clamp behind it to grab onto a single grill of the car's vent.

1. In this thread I show where I mounted mine. It is not more than 1/8 of an inch off. It does not need to be much. Just enough to cause it to lean. Look in this thread for pics of mine.

2. You can not pull straight off. You have to slide it to left/right or up/down.

3. The saller disk is just as strong.

Yeah, your photo is what actually made me want to buy the xway. So thanks!

fyi, #3 you probably meant to say metal piece since it's not technically a magnet.

I purchased the OEM dock. I knew it was more expensive, but I wanted something solid and was willing to pay a little more for it. The design is pretty nice and it's really solid when it's mounted. It basically consists of a belt clip that snaps on to the mount in your car. It's a neat design except that the belt clip doesn't work with a case. If there's anyone who's using a naked DInc and is interested in this set up, PM me. I'd be willing to sell it.

I think I'm going to go to Radio Shack tomorrow and see if they have a generic mount.

I posted this EXACT, almost to the word, feedback when I get mine...I faced the same issue as your #1 and also had issues with the mount coming off the vent, as well..

funny though, no one commented on mine though. :D

To those of you who have clipped the XWAY onto the M2:

Have you been able to extend the M2 without the phone angling downward? Without the M2's disc in the holder It can't really be tightened to keep the XWAY from slipping down when it's extended.

I tried supergluing something for the XWAY to clip onto on the M2's disc, but no true luck so far...

Any good homegrown solutions?

If you could take a square piece of plastic, drill a hole through it for the set-screws on the M2 mount, you could use that. It'll take some work with a hobby knife or dremel, but it should be workable (I was planning on using a old plastic motherboard standoff, or if I had one in my bin of parts, a metal octagonal one if I could fit it in there).

Any recommendations for replacement adhesive if the disks/mount comes off? I'm concerned that in triple digit heat (or even just a hard pull) they'll come off. I read about some adhesive some people were talking about in another forum that's great and can withstand heat, but forget the name.

Speaking of which, mounting disks just popped off the phone on first try. Both of them. Looks like you need super glue for these to work?

JB Weld?

I am thinking about mounting xway to m2, but I have a quick question.

Is the vent clip on the xway able to be removed without drastically altering the xway?

Great forum!!! Got a question. I can see how X2 can be adjusted for the best viewing angle from a driving position, but it looks to me that XWay can't be tilted at all since its always parallel to the mounting surface. I haven't seen anybody complain about it, so wondering if its not an issue? I just know that with my current portable GPS unit (using one of those beanie bags on dashboard mounts) I have to adjust the angle either if I place it to the left or the right of steering column on the dashboard. Want to use my DX to replace this navigation unit and found this thread to be very useful!

New Incredible owner exploring possible car setup options. Great thread! Lot of good information here.

I really like the look and concept of the XWAY. I like the idea of the simple, magnetized attachment, especially with how secure I keep hearing the attachment is. Unfortunately, I'm not sure it will work well for the vents in my '03 Civic, because they "swivel" up and down. So I imagine the mount/phone will just pull the vent to a downward facing angle, ruining the viewing angle for the phone. Has anyone had any experience with this? My hope is that if I clip it to the bottom of the vent, the bottom of the XWAY will rest against the dash and prevent the vent from pointing itself too far down. How far do the arms of the XWAY stick out away from the vent?

I have another question regarding the Tetrax FIX. Because I like the magnetized approach to mounting, I'm considering this as backup option, using it by either adhering it to my dash somewhere, or to some custom made plate if I can't get a good angle. I'm curious, does the FIX allow you to swivel from landscape to portrait views without a problem as well?

The XWAY arms are more foward then the magent, so when you put your device on it, they are pushed back towards vent to support the device. They really do not touch the vent (at least mine).

The fix will hold your device in landscape, however the disk must be exactly in the center of the phone (for balance). I do not think you can "use" device when mounted to a FIX (may fall off).

I am on my third VZW belt clip holder car mount. The henge keeps breaking when you try to adjust the angle. I have been a long time fan of Pro Clip holders and car mounts. Here is a link to their mounts for the Incredible. I will probably order the non charger cable version at the top.
