Best Buy Mobile employee here! Feel free to ask me questions :)

I hate to ask you this question, especially since you've been so helpful, but how difficult is the process of canceling my pre-order? My local BB didn't receive enough to cover my pre-order, so I ended up just ordering through VZW online instead.

@OP
I have a preorder at bestbuy but found out that if I buy it through wirefly or vzw.com
I can waive the activation as well as get a discount of $50BCB and 10% off, respectively.
Now if BB does not help me out here I would like to see if I can get a refund on the giftcard.
What do you think?
edit: Wirefly is actually 179.99 plus 50BCB.

Aookay, first thanks for all of the wonderful information you have provided in this thread, it has been great.
I have another question for you, if you would. Was/is it Best Buy's policy to call everyone that pre-ordered a Droid X, whether or not their phone was going to be in stock?
The reason I ask is because I pre-ordered and I didn't recieve a phone call, so I called last night, three times, to finally find out that my pre-order would not be in.

Thanks.

There really is no process, you can cancel if you like. The gift card can be used on anything in the store at a later date or they can cash it out and give you the money back.

I haven't been to work much this week so I'm not sure if Verizon is waiving activations everywhere or only if you buy at the corporate store. I don't go in till later, so hopefully Aookay can confirm if its being waived or not. Best Buy has no control over these things.

There is no policy, its up to each store how they want to handle things. They can tell people just to come line up outside the door or they can call people and set up appointments.

We called BB this morning to see if the Droid X came in. I was number 8 on the perorder list. They got 2. My wife was told when she preordered they would get enough to cover all the preorders. Today they say they were told a week ago that they would only be getting 2. The *(&&**(&*(*'s were trying to sell their 50 dollar gift cards and pulling the wool over everyones eyes. I'm taking the card back and shoving it somewhere if they don't give me my money back.

I tried to say many many many times that you are not guaranteed one the day of no matter what you were told.

Is this normal? BB used my wife's upgrade on our account and said they HAD to activate it on her line so I let them. killed her phone. then I had to call verizon to reactive her phone and put the phone on my account. sweet!

So, an update for all you guys.

We didn't get any accessories in. I don't know if this is a per store basis but it really sucks.

Our district got a very low amount of phones. Though, to be fair, we have enough preorders to cover our first wave.

I actually went in to do the calls and they had been done already. There were some people who were not too happy, but believe me, I am not happy either. I wanted to get every single person who wanted one a phone, but it looks like we were not allocated enough.

I wish I had better news guys :(

Well, I have one good thing to say, we got a crazy awesome poster that said "Droid X is here" , and it's freaking amazing. I want it!

I stopped by my local BB and returned my EVO - thanks for the help by the way! Went well. While he was doing that I asked him if they had any accessories for the X. He said no. I started walking around and didn't see an X (even a dummy) anywhere so I asked him about that and he said no demos either, not even a dummy. I said dang! Then I asked how many phones they received and he said 2. I said "2!!!". He just shrugged his shoulders. Seems like verizon kinda left best buy behind, sending them 2 phones, no accessories and no demo.

I love and stand by the black tie insurance with BB!! The last 5 phones between my wife and I have been through BB with the insurance with them. I have used the insurance multiple times when having problems with the phone. It is as simple as I go in BB say the phone is having problems and its no questions asked they open a brand new phone up and just swap it out for me. Far better then paying a deductable with verizon and then having to wait or even get "refurbs" from them if they swap it out in store.

And if for some reason the phone is out of date or they dont carry that phone any longer they allow you to upgrade it when collecting on the insurance.

I must say I politely disagree. BB Insurance is awful.

It does not cover fully submerged water damage (water gets too far into the circuitry i.e. sits in a puddle or falls in a pool), lost, or stolen phones.

Right off the bat it's pretty bad.

It does not have a deductible, but it is $10 a month. When something is wrong, you have to send it away and don't get it back for about a month (some cases worse - google bb black tie insurance).

In the meantime, you are stuck with a cheap dumb phone, in which policy says you are required to put down a $150 deposit.

Most other insurances like Asurion:

Covers fully submerged water damage, lost, or stolen phones.. And mail you a new/refurbed the next day (if in stock, if not - will send you a comparable).

It's not that they didn't have any. What pissed me off was they knew last week they weren't getting but 2 and continued to tell people they could pre-order and get one. To me they just mislead everyone. They did refund the gift card though. I went to the Verizon store next door and got the last one.

Just picked up my X. BB couldn't have been better im the transaction. They embarass my local corp store. This is def. Above inkie, and with some customizing will look fantastic.

Easy, just bring the receipt and the giftcard. We did a few today, I completely understand if you do because we did not get enough phones.

I am pretty disappointed about this :(

There isn't one set in stone for policy regarding the callbacks. The store should, I mean, we did because we wanted to give people a heads up, especially considering we got so few.

I can see the reason why they don't call everyone though, we got yelled at very many times :(

Me and my fellow employee here have made sure to state that no one is guaranteed a phone first day, it's on the FAQ I posted as well. I'm sorry the Best Buy you went to communicated this poorly to you though, but to be honest, I really think everyone was in shock of how many phones we initially got, and were prepared to get more last night or today.

A lot of stores got short changed, to be honest. They should not have guaranteed you one at the store, but at the same time we really didn't think it would be as low as the Incredible =/

Any wind yet of second shipments before the weekend, or during the weekend?

Before the weekend? Looks like no as of right now. During the weekend maybe. I'll check tomorrow, but it's going to vary depending on the part of the united states you live in.

Is this normal? BB used my wife's upgrade on our account and said they HAD to activate it on her line so I let them. killed her phone. then I had to call verizon to reactive her phone and put the phone on my account. sweet!

That is normal, as our BEAST system we use doesn't let us do alternate upgrades. We can do it through another system but it's easier to do it through ours. The time it takes to do it through the other system is the same amount of time it takes to call customer service and switch the phones, well...unless you call after five o_O

So, it's pretty normal. It depends on how comfortable the employee is with the secondary system. When I first started working there, I did it all through our system, to speed things up and make sure I didn't mess anything up. Now I am more comfortable, and can finish both in about the same time. Really depends on the employee's level of comfort :)

first of all i would like to say that you are of great help here.

2nd, the bb store i preordered at, did in fact guarantee me a unit on launch. As expected, they failed on their word.

LAstly, I tried to tell people a couple of nights ago, that BB was in fact going to screw up with the units alloted as preorders. I specifically said to make sure with your local stores so you wouldnt be dissapointed.

Sorry guys.

I just wanted to correct you and say we do not give you a cheap dumb phones. If your needs are for a smart phone, we will do that too.

Also, after a month it gets junked out, and you get a new phone from the drawer, it never is supose to go over a month, it says that on the paper you sign for repairs as well.

There have been horror stories about Asurion too, from customers as well as to ones I've experienced first hand.

I've seen the bad sides of both, I respectfully disagree that Best Buy's protection is awful. It may not be the best for you, and I completely understand that, but for other people, it will work quite well.

I appreciate the criticism, as the service is not perfect, but none is.

Different strokes for different folks :)
