Orange UK 2.1 update news

Guys and Girls, after this I'll probably not see or hear from you again, but it's a pleasure to be in the same boat as you all, and thanks to everyone who pestered/nagged and well, just made me feel like it wasn't just me.

If it wasn't for this thread, I'd be doing my daft round of searching google for irrelevant stories.

Which isn't going to happen as HTC one announced that they can't be bothered with releasing 2.2 for Hero. There are some custom 2.2 ROM's in the wild though ;)
 
Omg I just got so excited. That's not really sad is it seeing as we waited so long. Now that we have part 1 surely not long now till part 2. :-D
 
I'm not worried about it wiping everything. My contacts are on google and I don't have many apps on there currently. Once this update has gone through will we be able to go to the option in the menu and perform a complete reset to factory condition.... but to 2.1 rather than 1.5?
 
My mate on Tmobile had the 2nd update come through about 2 or 3 days after downloading the 1st update. Same with an Asian (unlocked) HTC Hero I have at work.

I'm confident we'll see 2.1 by the end of this week! :D
 
Hero users, i am currently on 2.73.61.5, assuming i have read right it looks like i will need to update to .66 before been able to get the update, i have a few questions.

Will that update to .66 wipe the phone completely?

Does Part1 wipe the phone or not?

I play imobsters and would be sick if i lost my progress, do we know if the second part of update wipes the phone?

Yes, you'll need to get the .66 update from the HTC website. It will wipe your phone (internal memory, not SD card), but as soon as its done, you'll be prompted to install the 2.1 prep update straight away.
 
Anyone going to be nagging Orange tomorrow on the phone for any more info? Would be interesting to hear what different stories we all get now.

.66 wipes your phone(not the SD)

Part 1 doesn't wipe your phone or SD.

I've heard 2.1(part2) doesn't wipe your phone, I've heard 2.1(part2)does wipe your phone. Probably worth doing a back up just in case.

Wouldn't imobsters(saved games not actual game) be stored on your SD card?

There will be a lot of content orange hero users going to bed tonight dreaming of 2.1.

Since i didnt do all updates and have to go up another rev i am just gonna hold off until the full update is released then do it in a oner.

I will see how it goes for all you lucky bandits then take the plunge.

The update will restart the phone when it's being installed. The first part of the update should add a check now to the system software update part of the "about phone" menu.

I have been pushing the date on my Hero forward hoping to get the update through but to no avail. I've never downloaded any ROM updates on my Hero. My build number is: 1.76.405.6

I tried following this post:

I just went to that page and entered my Hero's serial number. It told me that the update isn't suitable for my phone.

Anyone able to prod me in the right direction here?
 
This happened to someone on the facebook page, they changed the last number of the S/N to a random number and it downloaded.

Worth a try.

You want the generic HTC update located here. Despite the version displayed this is actually 2.73.405.66, the most recent 1.5 firmware. Install it and the OTA prompt should arrive soon afterwards.

Okay thanks will have to try this in the morning. I'm a Mac user so I'll be having to borrow my parents Windows laptop. It's an absolute pain. Is there a way for me to back up my phone stuff on my Mac? (As I presume this .6 update will wipe my phone)
