Orange UK 2.1 update news

I'm a Mac user like you with only occasional access to a Windows PC. The easiest way to backup your phone - is on the phone! Install the 'MyBackup' app from the market (the free version with 30 day trial) and backup whatever you want - apps/data or both. More info on the app here: RerWare Android&#8482 Products: MyBackup Pro (backup Android, Nexus One, Motorola Droid, G1, Hero, MyTouch, etc...), MyBookmarks

It'll copy everything to your SD card, then after you've updated to the latest ROM, reinstall the MyBackup app from the market, hit 'Restore' and it'll bring everything back for you. I did this last night after facing the same situation as you and it all worked fine. :)

I think I've developed OCD over the past month, checking the same 3 web pages.

Now I'm also getting sore thumbs checking for updates.

AGAIN - orange haven't learnt a thing. Give us a clue.
 
Hiya Orange Hero followers, Ive been reading alot of replys on 2.1 Android. I really hope they do release the 2 part today. Ive had the Hero since release. :D nearly 12 noon now.. Fingers Crossed:D

Been doing it most the morning as well. Have sent HTC an e-mail to ask, maybe someone else there can make my day today :)

Reply: I got the standard copy and paste crap!
 
I just have a very marked screen protector :)

Hopefully it will be today, I wonuldn't be surprised if it isn't until thursday or next monday.
 
Knowing a little about release dates and rollouts, there's probably someone sat in an office somewhere who's received the Pt.2 OTA file and is thinking "I'll just go for my lunch, then go to that system admin meeting and then I'll upload it to the server."
 
I assume Orange will run your update in the same manner T-Mobile ran ours, 2.1 pre update was released at the end of June this allows for manual update checks and also updates your You Tube client. It also prepares your phone to receive the full 2.1 update. T-Mobile advised full 2.1 mid month (July) and sure enough at 12pm on the 15th I checked for an update and it was there!

When you do get the 2nd part don't panic during installation, it may appear at times that the install has hung but be patient and ensure you have a good full charge in your battery as it does take a while.

install .66 and go official
Wait until there ia a repack
or install a custom 2.1 like mcr or someone else?

Waiting for Repack is the best way to keep root and install a better froyo when its out I think. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I am running villian and I will wait to see what kind of problems there are with official release before i look at moving back.
 
Hey

Having a bit of an issue updating to .66. I have installed sync and downloaded the ROM. When I connect my phone I see the green icon for sync to confirm that HTC sync "sees" my phone. However when I start to run the ROM the sync icon goes grey and I receive a USB Error 170.

Any ideas?
 
Thats because you have the latest update already installed. I had the same issue and thats what the HTC helpdesk bloke told me...
 
I need help here guys because i feel as though i'm missing out.
i have 1.5 build no. 2.73.61.66

i have put date forward by 1 year then another month... NOTHING!

tried switching phone on and off...NOTHING!

what do i do?

Same here. V12 works very well and it's pretty speedy. Plus having chance for more speedynes from custom 2.2 I don't know if there's point in going for Orange 2.1... the time will tell ;)

I had this problem. I had to copy the androidusb.sys from "c:/program files/htc/htc driver/driver files/win7_x86" to "c:/windows/system32/drivers". I think Windows installed an older driver from Windows Update. Backup the androidusb.sys in your system32/drivers folder just in case this doesn't fix it.

I don't know if the 2.1 update itself will improve call stability, unless it also contains a radio update (not sure if it does).

You could update the radio to the latest one, but you need to have rooted your phone to do that.

Try going to settings then I think go to security and there may be a firmware update button click that and it will give you the option wether to no install , prompt before installation or automatically do it. I'm not sure as this feature is removed after the first update
