Root think I am screwed, root went fine then POW

okay, stand by..... DL now and will go to step #21

BTW, while I do this download, I no longer care about root per se, I only want to get back to that so I can run clockworkMD or titnaium - whichever is best in this case - to go back to my data loaded up. that is my goal here. so it seems i must do a rooted ROM and 2.1 was where I was at so I want to just get back to that

ok well this is going to give you rooted 2.1. From there I would suggest restoring your data with titanium. Then you can go to either rooted froyo or stock froyo
 
if I do steps 24 & 25, do I kill & lose all my data on the SD card - apps, app settings, calendar, etc. etc.? those sound a little scary to do

or it is okay to do them since I backed them up with titanium?

it wont touch your sd card but will kill apps and app settings. Calendar is linked to your gmail.

You can try it without doing those steps and if it doesnt work just go back and do it
 
for now, I did not do 24 & 25, and upon reboot... I just see the M sitting there as before. how long do I wait?

looks to me like before... just the M siting there no change

I am at some Welcome to Droid screen, so I am activating as i know that has to be done as no option

do I do the whole Google sign in thing or skip it and just go right to downloading titanium?

then what to get back to me data?

okay... so close I can taste it. signed in and back to a home screen :)

now, I just want to get back to my data I had as I had it... should I just download titanium right now and do a restore? IF I do, is there anything I do NOT want to restore
 
You probably want to do "Restore missing apps + all system data" to restore as much of your previous setup as possible. Once it's done, you may not see your call logs or text messages until you reboot the phone.

any idea why it showed I had 171 items but in the "Restore missing apps + all system data" it showed only 167?

apps that are already there like twitter facebook and such would not be restored

1. will the apps that have data on the card find that data
2. will apps that have settings recall those key settings
3. will my system settings be setup like it was before the crash & have all of its settings
4. will I have to reboot to see all of this take place and fall into line?

1. Yes. For the most part, if data is saved on the SD Card, an app will look for it in the same folder it was in before. As long as you didn't shuffle the folders around, it shouldn't be a problem.

2. Yes. If you restored the apps and data from Titanium, settings are typically included in that data portion.

3. Some things will remain the same. You may have to redo your home screens with widgets and such. I've had them restore before, but the widgets usually show errors and you have to delete and re-add them.

4. Most likely, yes.

everything should be restored although there may be a few settings that dont come back through.

Reboot after you are done with the restore is a good idea
 
and.. if I did a ROM backup in ROM Manager via that clockworkMD, why wouldn't I just use that to get back to EXACTLY where I was versus using Titanium?

fair enough, but might that not have been related to the baseband ROM I did 30 minutes before. as well, this is more of an "official" root I have now - not that Easy Root - and I wonder if that changes things?

BTW, the ROM backup I did was before the baseband stuff when all was stable

For the most part root is root but I find it odd two people who did 1 click rooting had their recovery revert to stock. I have never heard of that before.
