Froyo 2.2 OTA is just around the corner

Those were the update install instructions that VZW put out for the "2.1 update 1". Now I'm sure they will be exactly the same for the 2.2 froyo....

I remain, Patiently/Impatiently waiting for the release of Android 2.2 for the Droid X!

oh i know i was just messing as VZW will give you instructions on how to upgrade but never give you the OTA to do it with:rolleyes:

I'm mainly irritated because the Verizon store rep said we'd see the big froyo speed increase, and flash "in a few weeks" back on release day. Its been far more then "just a few weeks" now.

Many websites my wife and myself frequent require flash, and obviously we still do not have it. Also,m froyo is supposed to cure the camera dead pixel issue we are seeing here... we are now almost a full month past our 30 day return date.

We were told a number of times by the guys in the verizon store, that we would have the update "very soon" to correct our issues, and not to worry about the issue we ran into when we first got our phones. Those issues still continue now, almost 2 months after we purchased them.

It might be end of summer wherever some of you guys live, be we are seeing 45 degrees at night here now.. a far cry from "summer" weather. The leaves are coming down, and its fall here.

I have no issue with them squashing more bugs in the release.. but they could have easily released a 2.1 update 2, killed the major bugs, and then released 2.2 once they were completely satisfied with it.

I had to ship my original DX to motorola so they could test final bug fixes for the dead camera issue almost a month ago now.

I'm just tired of seeing the same issues now for 2 months. No, it won't change our lives, BUT we won't be seeing some of the daily bugs we are still seeing now.

it was never "early September" that was a rumor startd on some site. It was and still is "late summer'.....Summer ends 9/22.

settle down and hang in there

It wasn't a rumor started at some site. The moderator at the Motorola forums (his name is Matt) misspoke and he apologized for it, and at the same time stated that the update is still scheduled for late summer; I'm guessing before the 23rd of this month, maybe we will get it this Monday coming up.

You and many others have such high expectations, that you are going to be severely disappointed when it finally is released. I am running the leaked and my speed is no better and thethings that lagged before still lag now. With all the hype, I expected to go WOW, but insted went meh, that's it? Sure, new functions, but no massive increase in speed that some are expecting. Sure sure, it is leaked and I supposed the finalcould be much better, but I bet it wont be very different at all. In fact, It'd wager a paycheck on it.

It's so close I can smell it.

I'm not remotely annoyed with Verizon for the wait. I am anxious for 2.2 but I would prefer they get me a working version and not some crappy "release and patch" BS that so many software companies shovel out. It sucks waiting but it sucks worse when my phone performs like crap. I'm glad they are opting for quality.

Some people talk like Verizon execs are sitting in a secret board room plotting to screw over their customers by withholding the 2.2 update. It does them no good to hold on to it unnecessarily. It's better for them to get out a solid version as soon as they can because then they can use that to get more sales by claiming their phones run the latest and greatest.

I can't think of a single reason for Verizon to deprive us of 2.2 without good cause.

2nd. It wasn't much more than a year ago that they released the Storm 1 with the worst software EVAR, and then proceeded to release like 5 updates in a row that were arguably better, sort of. Instead of holding RIM's feet to the fire, they rushed to try to get fixes in, which led to more issues. I doubt they are in a rush to repeat that bonehead move.

I'll take that wager since I'm willing to wager your paychecks are pretty nice. ;)

Dare I even chime in (with such a low post count) but I'm more interested in Froyo so I can root and all the other shmack I plan to do. I don't have the time (nor the inclination!) to root now, install the leaked version, then roll back for the OTA and inevitably F something up so I have to add hours and downtime to the process. I'm coming from the WinMo6.5 catastrophe and this my first Android device. I'm fresh as a newborn lamb.

So, I just keep rubbing my Droid X all over the ticklish parts of my body and being distracted. No, actually I'm trying to be oblivious...which is impossible. Buzz Killington was fantastic. Thank you.

you guys just don't get it

the answer from any vendor, no matter who it is, is always "two weeks"

lol

Aint that the truth!! LOL. A VZW rep told me last month, that the 2.2 OTA was supposed to be release a few days later. It is now 3 weeks past that "assumption". lol

A month ago (mid August) I spoke to a Verizon tech person. She said it should be before the end of the 3rd quarter. That gives them until September 30th.

Also know this..... This was not a guaranteed must do but merely a target date. All good things will come to pass.
