Brilliant!! It was probably erroring out cause there were most likely updates for that crap in the update.

When I click system updates it hangs for about a minute, then I get a "Force Close" error for com.android.settings.

Good grief I go to lunch and I miss all this. It says Server unavailable what's that? Just everyone DL'ing it at the same time?

Ok it is donwloaded, but the booting up is long, i am stuck at the vzw splash screen is this normal?!

EDit: i should have been patient, it is all done... lets see

Build Number: SCH-I500.DI01
Frimware version: 2.1-update 1

I think you need to be on 3G rather than wifi, though can't swear to it. I tried to do the update with wifi at home and I got the network error. Turned wifi off and it went through.

However I was trying to do the update before I saw the post about restoring Bing and bloatware. Bloatware I just hid with LauncherPro...but I did rename 2 bing files...I know for sure what the first one is but not sure about the 2nd one...off to figure that out.

I second this - as soon as I turned off the wifi it worked. As a sidenote, I didn't change any of my "hide all this crap" settings in LP either, although I would think that was just a GUI thing anyway.

Third, have to turn it off, or change settings somehow so you get it from 3G.

Yeah that must have been it. Turned off wifi and the DL went thru on the first time. However, after the phone re-booted I was prompted by the same install screen  I guess that means mine didnt take. I am rooted and de-bloated. So I take it I need to re-bloat to get this sucker to stick?

Mine failed to connect with wifi on. Turned off wifi and connected fine and the update downloaded and installed. My phone is rooted with bing removed and some bloatware removed and I didn't have a problem.

Just updated mine! All went fine! Should be interesting to see if my isp email acct will sync automatically.

In the meantime, I'm going to check out the Droid X that came today.....going to be tough, I think I'm lovin my Fascinate. We have come a long way! lol!

After you restore bloatware, it will download, reboot, install update, reboot and you will be stuck at verizon logo for a few minutes. That is normal. Give it up to 5-8 minutes.

After which log you in to your phone.

One thing, you will lose ROOT. :(

I had that too, and just hit OK or whatever the middle button was. But I tried to update again and it said it was up to date. Maybe the post-boot screen is just a bug.

Easy way to test. Turn volume all the way up>get in elevator>listen for that crazy no signal notification.
