Well, whatever word you want to use, I still saw no extra fluidity when scrolling side to side compared to my own.

There's more to it than raw FPS. I'm convinced some people's brain cannot distinguish between 30 and 60 fps the same way some people can't tell green from red. But that aside, there are two other aspects most people SHOULD be able to see.
1) touchscreen sensitivity and finger tracking ability. This should be night and day. To test, long press on any icon and swish it around on the page. Note how close it remains to your fingertip. Swish slow and swish fast. On stock kernel, the icon is trailing miles behind your finger. Same thing goes for finger-scrolling menus and lists. The tracking improvements make the phone feel SO much more responsive, and that adds to the perceived smoothness of the phone.
2) random stuttering not related to slow framerate. These occur all the time with the stock kernel, and very infrequently with the fps uncapped.
I've made a video that I believe demonstrates these points clearer than any previous video made to show the same thing. And if you have the eye for FPS, you should also see that scrolling through the homescreens is much more fluid with the custom kernel.

I have no doubt you are right about all that, but none of that was what I was referring to. At the end of the video, he was just wiping between homescreens and made reference to how smooth the scrolling was.
At the end of the day what is really boils down to is there are two types of people with Evos. Those of us the care about the FPS and those of us that don't care about the FPS. Two things should be done:
1. Those of us that do care should not waste time trying to explain/justify their frustrations to those of us that don't care.
2. Those of us that don't care, shouldn't waste time trying to understand something they see as a non-issue.
Then everyone will be happy.

Per those using that kernel it is more fluid. Maybe it is or isn't, however if the rumor is true we will all get to see it for ourselves very soon. My personal peeve (however slight) is the performance of scrolling text, not horizontal swiping. With any luck that will be improved by this time tomorrow.
That's sort of a simpleton's approach. I consider myself in a third group, one that doesn't necessarily need or want to do these things myself (yet) but that still wants to read about them, discuss them, and understand them.

I browse frequently...do soooo much with this phone...play games etc....
The difference is huge...games that were unplayable prior to run so much smoother now...
It goes far beyond simply scrolling home screens and web pages.....but as others have said...there is a very large portion of Evo owners that use their phone, as a phone lol...they will never notice

Right now, it's nice but not a deal breaker. The way I use my phone, it was never much of an issue.
However, this may be one of those things where a couple of weeks down the road, I'll pick up an Evo without the update and go, "this is terrible!"

Maybe you should also ask when they answer if they are rooted or not. Many may have already had the FPS update prior to the "Official" update. They would not see the increase.

Forgive my ignorance, but is this update automatic or can we manually update? Ive read a few articles about it now...but nowhere does it mention the specifics of updating it.

Go to Settings-->System Updates-->HTC Software Update and hit Check Now and you will see it.
Otherwise, the phone's setting is defaulted to check for updates at certain intervals, so eventually it would pop up on your phone to run the update.
I believe it's manual and you have a choice not to update. But I dont see any reason not to update. good luck!

Now it's pretty comparable. I think iphones still have an edge though. I wouldn't be surprised if the iphones actually hit 60fps.

If you're rooted with the uncap fix, you can vote as if comparing to the old stock Evo with the cap in place. Both the xda fix and the HTC fix perform about the same, and I wouldn't be surprised if HTC didn't just use the same xda fix for this recent update....

Actually, there's ppl on here that i'm sure will swear 8fps is so noticeable it's almost a deal breaker
The update has made a noticeable improvement for me, but nothing i'd write home about. None of the games i play really show a difference at all, and when i'm scrolling screens, txts, web, etc, it does look nicer but is just as functional as before; 30fps was never a "problem" to me. It'll definitely help when i'm showing off my phn though lol
My app menu does seem to stutter now, but i think it's just more noticeable given the visual improvement of scrolling now...

I said before they even announced this fix that folks were going to be expecting some dramatic difference when there's really not. I had been rooted with an unlocked fps kernel just to see what all the hype was about and it was barely even noticeable.
