9/30 - New Maintanence Sprint UPDATE!! DI18!!

I manually installed the update but now certain apps wont show up when I search for them in the market. For example, can anyone find the game "Legends Arcana" on the market? Shows up for my EVO... but not for my Epic.

Awesome - I just checked and still nothing for me, but I imagine it'll happen at some point today if other Boston area people are getting it now.

How are your upload & download speed after the update?

Don't ask!! I'm not getting good upload numbers at all. I'm getting under what I was getting before the update :-( anyways ill wait to see what happens. I'm always on 4g anyways :-)

I did the manual update and also had problems with the market place. I could even log onto it. I ended up taking the phone back to Best Buy for a new one. I also ended up with the OTA update this morning.

Alright, the update has come through. My upload numbers are better (though all over the map), but my download numbers are worse. A few runs of the speedtest app has me between 215-240 kbps download. Upload I've gotten 144, 404, and 177 in the 3 tests I've run since the update. This is the first time I've broken 150 upload on 3G though, so clearly the update did something.

I hope the download speeds are just an aberration caused by lots of people getting the update at once and clogging the network and not what I can actually expect from here on out.

Just walked around the office for a second, and things seem better. 673 down/225 up. That's the first time I've gotten download over 300kbps and upload over 100kbps simultaneously on 3G.

I was having the same problem yesterday when I manually update and immediately started thinking the worst. What I ended up realizing is that when I had 1 to 3 bars of connection, it would be really slow. When I had 4 to 6 bars, it FLYS!! How good your connection is depends on your location though.

Just got the update available message this morning on my Samsung Epic and it performed the upgrade. I am in Sacramento, CA. I used speedtest.net android app to check my upload and download speeds and its as follows:

1316 Kbps download and 600kbps upload (this is on 3G with no wifi turned on). I think its pretty good.

I received mine while operating wifi I'm always on wifi at my house. I selected "later" and a few minutes after midnight I got the notification again, also while using wifi.

was your mobile data turned off? it could still be on at the same time as your wifi. i use the juice defender widget to manually turn it off (but i don't, i let j/d do it per config settings).

BTW, got mine via OAT just a few minutes ago in mid-Atlantic state.

Got my update exactly 15 minutes ago. Here is the latest screen shot on 3G, and now I am a lot happier!:

No, my data was not turned off, like with Switchpro or anything. But I was under the impression that one or the other ran...3/4G OR wifi, not both at the same time. Otherwise, why can I not get MMS downloads when I'm operating wifi, if 3G is running in the background?

uhh I think I got a broken phone?? My download on full service bars, 15 times with 6 different servers: I havn't been able to get past 350kbs download with an avg of 310 and my upload is 15kbs...yes you read that right, ??!! My avg upload has been 8kbs. I don't understand??

Give it time mine was doing the same thing after the update. You should be fine in a few hours.

I think I just have to face the music that my house is in a Sprint dead zone. At work, I got the DI18 update and all was happy - downloads about 650 kbps, uploads between 200 and 400 typically.

I got home and ran speedtest.net to see how the update improved my home speed. Answer: it didn't. Four runs since getting home:

D 178, U 14
D 190, U 9
D 185, U 13
D 548 (woo!), U 19 (D'OH!)

So now the question is, does this bother me enough to jump ship. I have about 4 days left to decide before my 30 days are up.

On the one hand, I don't particularly need data in my house since I have computers everywhere and WiFi if I really need data on the phone. Plus, as a phone, I really love this phone.

On the other hand, shouldn't I expect more out of my premium data device/network? I mean, on the coverage map I am well within a 3G area and bordering a 4G area, but my phone is roaming in my basement, and now I know that I'm just not going to get anything above EDGE level speeds for data at home. That's not good for anyone.

What would you guys do?

I haven't updated yet, but yes, I can search for Legends Arcana (on AppBrain) and it comes up.

every carrier has holes in service.. some more than others.
Sprint is the top but it is not bottom.

you have wifi at home.. it is faster than 4G and 3 G combined. you like the phone... it works great as a phone.

and of course the $ savings...

will it be better on the other side of the fence?

I just got the popup for the update and clicked update. It went to the boot loader screen and then gave an error and I had to reboot. Now when I check for an update it says none available.

I would call Sprint or go into a store and tell them your signal is just too bad in your home for you to want to keep your phone/contract with them. Show them your test scores....and hopefully they'll offer you airave for free...if not, ask for it! Several people on these forums have got it. I think basically, just don't take no for an answer and keep pushing the issue with different people.
