9/30 - New Maintanence Sprint UPDATE!! DI18!!

I would call Sprint or go into a store and tell them your signal is just too bad in your home for you to want to keep your phone/contract with them. Show them your test scores....and hopefully they'll offer you airave for free...if not, ask for it! Several people on these forums have got it. I think basically, just don't take no for an answer and keep pushing the issue with different people.

check out this thread http://androidforums.com/sprint/178706-step-step-instructions-free-airave.html

What kind of voice service does the Charles C have at home? If it is not good, then an Airave might be a local solution -- but it would do no good off the premises nearby. If the voice calling service is bad in the general neigborhood, better to try another carrier.

But if the problem is only data speeds at home, just using WFi would be a better solution. It should be faster and probably consume less battery power.

Actually, this is what's leaning me toward keeping it and using Wi-Fi at home - the voice clarity and call quality on this phone is better than any I've had previously. Not so much as a single garble so far, including in the basement of my house. I came from AT&T and if a call even came through while I was downstairs, it was quickly either dropped or unintelligible. Upstairs was not much better.

The other thing is that the Sprint customer service people I've dealt with so far (on the phone and in a store) have all been great. So I think the pros of staying outweigh the cons.

^^^ I'm just one of those people that refuse to pay for a data package I can't use in my own home. I mean...yeah, I can use wifi and I'm sure it's better....but that's not the point.....I'd be paying for 3G and 4G that probably won't be available in my home town anytime soon. You can't use wifi to download picture messages and I think texts. My understanding is you have to have wifi turned off to get those to work. That being the case, if it was me with those download/upload speeds at home, I'd want a fix for that, regardless of call quality. I'd at least be trying my luck to get a free one with free service.

How can you get back a notification? I had a notification that i had 3 updates (1 could have been the recent uncap update, idk) but i accidentally hit clear. Now i have no idea how to make the phone show me my updates again. Can anyone help me out here?

Mine was sent daily until I installed it. You can also go into settings>about phone>system updates>update firmware

ok thanks, but it never came back. so i guess that means it was an update for one of my apps. Is there a way to do a check for updates on all apps?

If you go into the downloads section of the market you'll see what apps have updates. You can go into them and update as you see fit. The little suticase-ish icon in the notification bar is for app updates, not firmware or OS updates. I think it actually lags because I see updates long before I get a notification.

Ok, so I have "notify me of updates" selected in the market, but I don't get notifications. Only time I know that updates are available is when I go into the download portion of my market. Is there some other setting that I'm missing??

Nope. It wrks the same way for me. Once in a blue moon I'll see the update icon on it's own. 95% of the time it pops up after I'm in the downloads section. Seems more like a bug than anything.

everytime I would hang up the phone I would get a pop-up saying network connection error (Retry or Cancel). I actually did NOT have a network connection error and it did not matter if I pushed retry or cancel, it would go away and would work just fine. It was annoying. Complained to Sprint. Update fixed it.

It's a simple 3 step process
Step 1....Fix
Step 2....It
Step 3....Fix It

Oh and before the update I had a 600 mile road trip using my GPS/google maps and it glitched once...lost data connection it said.....restart did not work, drove back a 1/4 mile and bang it came back and I was out in the middle ozark mountains in MO. I was able to record 720p video at same time...no problems. I also talked and texted a couple times with no problems while GPS/Google Nav was running. My wife tracked me on latitude, that is a little glitchy but otherwise right on. GPS always pinned me exactly. Im satisfied with the GPS since purchased month ago.

Did you read the other thread about updates?
DrPepper figured out if you go to the market and download or update anything, the DI18 update follows immediately.

Thank you for that. I hadn't gotten the update either until now. Just downloaded a new app and got my update.

from ~150 to ~450-570

funny just the other day... i thought 150 upload was normal.
and i started reading what this ri18 was for.

glad i got it... hopefully battery life will improve (i keep my wifi off so i dont think itll make much difference)

How many people have 3g stalls? I mostly hve it in the market, and I still can't seem to get the market to update even after doing some of the steps people have pointed out.

I also get the battery showing 100% after an overnight charge, but wen I take it off the charger it drops to the 70's. The I restart the phone and it shows 100%. Weird.

My gf has this phone and it's still running on DI07. I tried checking for system updates in the settings menu but it says the phone is up to date. I also tried downloading an app from the market as someone suggested and still didn't update. Is there any way to force the update? Do we need to take it to a Sprint store to get it updated at this point? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

You can also install the official updates yourself here:

Xda is a great forum for this sort of thing and the developers there are top-notch. I definitely recommend signing up at those forums as another great Android/Epic resource for yourself. :)

Thank you kristv. Any idea why her phone wouldn't have automatically gotten the update? She's had the Epic since it came out. Thanks again.

No problem! :)

I've seen this happen with a few Epics, according to other threads on various forums. I can't figure out if it's a build date-specific thing or what the problem is. I'm curious about your gf's build date of her phone. Is it from July or August? You can find out by pulling the battery and checking inside the phone. It seems that whenever I see that someone has a problem updating their Epic, it was manufactured in July. This is just my perception though, so take it with a grain of salt.
