megapixels aer a myth there are many more variations, its up to you really, do you want the better colors or a more developed SenseUI along with 2.1.. fascinate will get 2.2 eventually but i prefer sense imo

+1 its all about preference. If you aren't into rooting then what UI/ general phone experience do you prefer? If you do root then its all about which company/hardware do you trust more.
(thats how i look at it)
 
what is the consensus here i know this is an Incredible forum, I've had the Incredible around 3 months, but I've thinking of using a family member upgrade and buying the fascinate at the one year price, opening a new one year contract, thus having both phones, and then either keeping one for a back up and switching back and forth or make a really tough decision.

There is no real consensus. The dinc fans will say dinc while the fascinate fanboys will say fascinate. For the life of me though, I can't figure out why so many fascinate fanboys are hanging around the dinc forums. Shouldn't they have better things to do?
 
I wish there was a clear cut concensus here cause I get to go pick up a new phone tomorrow and the DInc is BOGO while the samsung will cost me $150 more overall (buying 2 phones).

What are the pros/cons of them?
 
after reading a million posts on this topic i can tell you that you wont find a clear cut concensus...it boils down to preference really. it seems like neither phone blows the other one out of the water in every category.

i've been contemplating which one to get for a while now. wouldn't be surprised if a newer/better phone comes out before i make up my mind.
 
ha, well lets see, since I have both, here is the short of it:

Samsung Pros:
Screen size and clarity
Easier to see screen in sunlight
battery life (marginally better)
thinner form factor
more solid build feel
Better picture quality (even though 3mp less resolution)
Better HD video quality

Incredible Pros:
Sense UI
Facebook integration with contacts although it can be buggy.
Feels snappier
GPS better
Integrated DROID stuff

All in all, I rather the Fascinate, but I keep my Incredible ready at any moment to reactivate, should the FS fail me. (I think the FS knows this and refuses to give me problems for fear of being benched)
 
I went and bought a Fascinate Tuesday. Tried it for a day and took it back. They even forgot to charge me the restocking fee!

While the Fascinate screen is amazing, it was SLOW compared to my Incredible. I was also disappointed with the sound quality versus my Incredible. It sounded like I was talking into a tin can.

Another con I noted was the poor WiFi signal. Even standing 6 feet away from my router at home, the Fascinate showed 1 bar. Don't know if it was a true signal issue or just a display issue. I also did not like the Mail layout and lack of customization with the native Mail program. I sync with my work Exchange account. I also struggled with the inability to set contact-specific ringtones without moving my contacts from Google to phone.

Anyway, this is all just FWIW. My experience and preferences. The screen is frickin' amazing, though. I'd kill to have the Incredible with that screen!
 
Its simple...

Fascinate has superior hardware in every way but the software UI sucks. Rooting will fix the software.

The winner? Samsung Fascinate is simply a superior phone once rooted. Every aspect of the hardware is better than the Incredible.

Sorry... a lil OT but very coincidental.

Anyway, went in and played with both phones this evening. It's a friggin toss up at this point. I'm now leaning back toward the Samsung after making a list of importantce. Here it is for what it's worth:

1. Make/receive calls (reception)
2. Battery life. Not so much me but my wife sometimes forgets to plug hers in.
3. GPS. This will be a feature that I'm sure we both use a lot. I'm still a little cloudy on this whole issue. See below.
4. Display, specifically in the sunlight. (Read: GPS use)
5. Ease of use/UI
6. Durability fits in here somewhere... I plan on taking all precautions (case/cover).
7. Bluetooth is on here somewhere too. Not sure how this functions on either phone.

That's about all I can think of. After weighing those out, it seems like the Samsung is the clear winner... but the Fascinate would fit the bill too... ugh.

GPS: Still not sure what the deal is with this. Do you HAVE to use VZW navigator on the fascinate? You can't get turn-by-turn google maps directions using this phone unless it's rooted?
 
i would like the fascinate more if the UI wasn't the ugliest thing i have ever seen. looks like a cross between an iphone (already ugly) and a 6 year old's cartoon.

I agree completely. I have rooted Incredible and Fascinate and the SF with the voodoo lagfix and overclocked is ridiculous. Even on 2.1 its the fastest phone period. Out of the box its laggy and touch wiz is awful.

I think the incredible and galaxy s phones out of the box are inferior to the Droid X and Droid 2, but once rooted, and running custom roms or just custom kernels they kick motorola to the curb.

For the moment I think the inc will still be my daily driver only because the enhancements in using its custom roms are better than just stripped down fascinate at the moment, but once the fascinate gets 2.2 and aosp roms that ll probably change.

Either way, if you are into rooting, they are by far the 2 best phones available for verizon by a mile.

not JUST the launcher. icons, layout, etc. id rather not buy a phone that i have to overhaul just for it to be bearable. Launcher pro should be a substitute/enhancement, not the only option for it to be worth it
 
Screen size? Exactly why I chose Incredible. Size was most important consideration next to reception. Also, I have no problem with DINC build quality. FASCINATE TOO Big for me.
 
Before Froyo I loved my phone despite some major issues. After Froyo, this phone is everything I want. still has a few minor issues but I live with them happily.

I could have got a Fascinate to replace my Incredible at no charge and chose against it. While the Fascinate may have some perks, it isnt worth $75 more (OP will pay) per phone to me.

Just my opinion.
 
why isnt there a poll already?

there should be a poll "Which do you like more" that way it isnt just a headcount of who HAS which phone but a question to everyone to see which one is more liked.
 
I own both and use the SF as my phone. The Dinc is my backup. The screen width is the biggest killer for the Dinc. It's too narrow IMO.
