Root [ROM] ApeX V1.0 for Droid X - An AOSP Experience (10/20/10)

Hey guys. Love ApeX so far. Lightning fast! Just one problem: I don't have backup assistant for some reason. Im kind of a noob when it comes to this stuff so if anyone could help me out in a way a noob might understand that would be great!

Even though I don't understand why anyone would use it read through the posts in this thread there are instructions on how to install it.

Personally I am glad it is not in the ROM, it is pretty useless since all our contacts sync with gmail.

I don't necessarily want to use it I just want all of my contacts to sync right, which they are not doing. Anyone know of a better way to sync my contacts?

as long as you have your gmail account set to sync mail and contacts it should work flawless.

I don't want to just threadjack, but I'm just wondering which ROM is really the best? I like the fact that Blur integrates my contacts with Facebook, and I'm pretty sure that this ROM removes that ability.

Also, this removes the Swype and MultiTouch keyboard?

Nope, this ROM includes Facebook syncing. I had the same question because I love that, also it does not remove either keyboard.

Maybe I am forgetting, but I thougt that when you double tap the screen while browsing, the screen would zoom and the text would wrap. Am I mistaken or is that a blur thing?

Also, installed the revelution theme, and it changed my lock screen. How do I get this one back?

Text wrapping when double-tapping is still there.

It seemed that there really was no disadvantage to accepting the OTA as far as things go with the X. You can't really do anything with the leaks and older bootloader that you can't do with the OTA so I sbf'd back to 2.1 and accepted the OTA, rerooted, and flashed this rom and haven't looked back. Lovin' it! Can't wait the next build! Thanks Fab!!!

yeah i am pretty excited about getting the new baseband and kernel from the sbf then putting RC2 over it.

+1 I hope someone will post suggested best procedures for this.

BTW, I use No Lock so I never (literally never) get random reboots with ApeX. I applied both hot fixes. It is running smooth as frozen yogurt.

Anyone?

Will the version coming out tomorrow work on OTA 2.2?

The Version Fab is going to release tomorrow is based on the OTA, read the above posts. He flashed the OTA yesterday and is now basing ApeX on it. It is a lot easier to mod ROMs based on the OTA now that we have the sbf, which we just got yesterday.

A lot of us want to update to 2.2OTA so I hope you don't mind a few questions:

Why did you choose to accept the update over the air instead of flashing the new SBF?

What rooting method did you use?

Did you reinstall Bootstrap Recovery immediately after rooting?

hey guys im back with another question, the wifi tethering is that free, like i dont have to sign up with the 25 bucks a month thing tat Verizon does do i?

should be easy.

1. sbf 2.2 to get new system,kernel,baseband
2. use SuperOneClick to root
3. install bootstrapper
4. reboot to recovery
5. flash RC2
6. re install your apps or maybe try an advanced restore of data.

technically it is free to use wireless tether. unless you get caught. then they could either charge you or close your account. but i would not really worry about it.

I held off when there was hope that we might actually crack the X after that huge let down when it didn't work I said screw it. If they weren't going to crack 2.1 then they weren't going to crack 2.2. And with 2.2 coming out so soon after the phone launch, I figured whatever progress that was made would be made with 2.2. So I sbf'd to 2.1 before the full 2.2 sbf was released. I used the Droid 2 root method. But I'm sure there are easier was to do it now. And yes I installed bootstrap immediately. without it I couldn't boot into recovery.
