Root [ROM] ApeX V1.0 for Droid X - An AOSP Experience (10/20/10)

:)

I am a happy camper. Booted up looks great. Skipped setup I will do manually. TY guys so much for pointing that part out. First time I ever had to format, all the rest of the steps where the same.

anytime ...hope you enjoy as much as the rest of us have ...u may want to try the nex one theme as it looks awesome on top of rc2

So at this point in our phone's hacking developments, are there any remaining advantages to not going with the 2.2 OTA ( as opposed to installing Apex RC2 over the 2.3.15 leak)? It seems like the only reason not to update would be a slim hope of the old bootloader being cracked ( I.e.- All themes seem to now work with 2.2 ota, looks like we can deodex it, install any of our old DX roms on it, root it, utilize all of the old root apps that worked with 2.1, etc.)

Am I missing any advantages to not updating to the 2.2 OTA?

Would also like to know this. I'm debating on flashing the sbf 2.2 or stay how I am now.

its good to flash the 2.2 first off to have a good clean starting point and with the new kernal and baseband your phone should get a better signal

Doubtful that there is any chance that the old bootloader will be cracked in any way that the new one could not also be cracked. There was no real headway into the old bootloader, and there is no reason to believe the new one is anything more than the old one with a new set of encryption keys.

I was holding out until the 2.2 SBF rolled around, now that it's here... no reason to stick with the old radio/kernel/bootloader.

Did you fix the text message issue from OTA 2.2?

I've noticed stock messaging displays the correct time... But now when using handcent, they have there own "Fix" for the X times are 4 or 5 hours ahead..

By chance do you know of a fix for this?

In handcent change the timestamp offset to 0 (under settings -> receive message settings) and your times should be correct, it worked for me.

Hope this fixes the issues I've had with apex rc1 and the fission rom. Both make the screen unresponsive after I get a popular text message using ChompSMS.

Does this ROM deodex or should I do that by meself or what should I do!

I want to make it as clean as possible, but I want to be able to put back some certain APKs, but I'm not sure how I should go about doing that.

So say I do want to reinstall certain features from Blur, should I back those up with Titanium and then follow a script, or what?

Ok, im gonna go for it! Could someone send me a link to the new 2.2 full sbf? I assume that the process is the same as for the old 2.1 gift?

well said. i dont know personally, but i ahve been looking into this lately. your theory sounds excellent and way easier. probably dont even need a script......just install from TiBa.

That sounds right in theory, but I'm not so sure about it yet! I'm going to try shortly.

I don't understand how to install the old stock MT keyboard. I don't like this look of it, and I'll probably never get the hang of this keyboard. I loved the white look and this is just throwing me off. I tried doing "install LatinIME.apk" and it said it was installed, but I cannot change to that keyboard. What do I do?

Also, what about the Motorola text messaging application? I loveeeeeeeeeee that one compared to this Android standard version!

Im wondering if its possible to put back in the Blur myaccounts thing so it actually syncs with facebook again?

Anyone know?

I like linking my phone contacts with their facebook infos but with all the blurless ones that has been removed and the facebook app is blocked by blur itself or something?

I don't think theres an apk to install that puts it back is there?

Fab (or anyone else),

If I follow the instructions on the first page of this thread, will this be a "clean" install?

I just yesterday ran the 928 Black Glass (mainly to deodex) but did not care for the theme. So I ran your Nextheme but it left remants of Black Glass (boo).

Anyway, if I do what you said on the first page, would that clean everything out from Black Glass and the Nextheme and just install the APEX ROM? Or should I factory restore first?

Sorry, Ive read through the thread here but getting confused. I just want to.

* Get rid of existing themes totally.
* Perform a clean install of RC2.
* Maybe run the Nextheme you posted here in this thread.
* Reinstall all my apps and settings.

If someone could guide me here on what to do to get the above, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

I flashed the 2.2OTA SBF, installed RC2 and reinstalled my apps and data with TB. Unfortunately, the new set up isn't running as smoothly as RC2 had been before I flashed 2.2OTA.

Is it OK to restore the nandroid backup I made before flashing to 2.2OTA?

Bug with RC2 (blur related):
When looking at your contacts if you scroll right to look at status information there is none, which is fine obviously, but if you go back to your contact list, hit menu then display group the menu becomes bugged.

Nothing major, just thought I'd report in. So far I'm loving this ROM! Typing in web pages seems a little laggy but I've not had much time to play around with it.

Just go to settings -> accounts -> add account and add facebook, it still syncs with your contacts

You're going to want to reinstall the rom by following the original instructions, except not formatting the data or cache. This will allow you to keep your personal settings and apps, and will restore the ROM back to its original state (not themed).

Here are the instructions you need with the formatting of data and cache removed.
-Place file on your sdcard. Bootstrap recovery and reboot recovery
-Navigate to mounts and storage. In the following order: FORMAT system
-mount /system <<<-- THIS IS A CRUCIAL STEP, please don't miss it!
-Return to previous menu and install .zip from sd card
-Choose ApeX and install!
