Root [ROM] ApeX V1.0 for Droid X - An AOSP Experience (10/20/10)

Runs pretty fast and smooth. Hit 1583 benchmark. Don't have the app to calculated fps. At first boot, it was running like my phone did when I tried the .zip method of OC, so I was freaked out and turned it off. Then turned it back on and all is well. Might have to play around with the settings.

I just tried what you said. If I have issues, I will most likely do what you said (and maybe a factory reset) on top of everything. I just don't know how to sbf, so will have to read up on that if I get to that point. I installed RC2 by the way and not 1.0.

Thanks, I may try this later this week or over the weekend. I just installed Fab's RC2 as I posted just a short while ago. But Im thinking clean install and then 1.0 is the way to go.

Just have to learn how to sbf first. So far, so good though! Digging this!

SBF isn't too difficult. All you have to do is get the drivers for your computer, install RSD and the patch, extract the sbf, open the sbf in RSD and hit start.

There are directions here towards bottom at the header: "Return your DroidX to stock unrooted 2.1"

There's no reason to not get v1.0 either, you would install it the same way you installed RC2 this last time and turning off the OC is extremely simple although I would leave it because he only has it mildly overclocked and so it should be very stable.

Does anyone know if it matters whether RSD 4.7+patch or 4.8 is used for installing the 2.1 sbf or the 2.2 sbf? Can you use either version with either sbf?

Do you think I need to sbf? Or can I get away with Fab's instructions, factory reset, and then tweak to my liking?
 
Don't want to mess anything up. What do I have to edit to have my X boot up with stock speeds running in LV mode and what exact changes do I make to the files?

I have done the following:
Installed ApeX v1.0
Installed NexTheme
Used terminal to overclock -off, and overclock -lv

My understanding is that these overclock settings don't stick when rebooted unless I edit a file?

The only reason you would sbf would be if you bricked the phone and you didn't have access to the bootstrap recovery or something of that nature--meaning the software is seriously messed up and needs to be completed replaced, which is what the sbf does.

This should not happen when messing around with roms and themes unless a serious deviation outside the instructions. i.e. when I first started doing roms, I wiped system, data, and cache, then mounted /system and went to install, realized I had forgotten to put the rom on my sdcard, unmounted /system and rebooted the system, not realizing I had cleared all the data off the /system and not replaced it with anything--bricking my phone

Right now, in your scenario, where you didn't wipe the data and cache before re-installing the rom, if you experience any errors or its not running smoothly, then the worst you do is do the install like he has listed in the first post, wiping the system as well as the data and cache this time, which will give you a fresh start with the rom.

Since you did overclock -off, your setting will not be saved on reboot. You need to go back to terminal and type

su
overclock -on
setscaling.sh (not sure if this last step is needed, I think it might only be needed after you modify the overclock values?)

-on means it will save your overclock settings on reboot.
 
ok i have 1.0 installed and can comprehend fabs overlock options.....i have modified my own settings in root explorer and saved them ....i am having trouble applying them ....do i set overclock -off then after reboot type stscaling.sh or do i overclock -on then after reboot type setscaling.sh?

Easiest way would probably be just to put your custom setscaling.sh on your sdcard, then in terminal emulator:

su
overclock -sd
overclock -on (only if you want to auto use these settings)
reboot

or, alternatively, if you don't want to reboot, you may have to manually load the overclock module

insmod /system/lib/modules/overclock.ko
setscaling.sh

thanks fab now how would i go about putting my own custom stscaling.sh on the sd?
 
Superb ROM.

One question, how do I make a one touch quick dial on one of the home screens? (kind of like the motorola contact quick task)?
 
Long press on home screen and select shortcuts, then contact and then select the one you want to add...

It's not per say a one touch dial but it does bring you directly to that contact...

1. How harmful is the default settings for overclock of this phone? Should I disable oc?

2. Is Autokiller necessary any more after installing this ROM? If so, what are the recommended settings?

Great update. My phone is operating so fast now. I honestly just unlocked my screen and it went so fast I didn't even see the unlock bar move. Basically no lag whatsoever!! Finally!
 
The overclock is not harmful at all since it doesn't raise voltage.Also, I do have some memory management settings applied, so if they're good for you, you don't need auto killer. If you don't like em, you can overwrite them with auto killer.

Autokiller is never necessary and in fact does not even work on Froyo on any phone
 
I was having serious issues with BlueTooth on RC2. Ended up going back to the 2.3.15 SBF and everything was fine. Any thing change in V1 that would imply that my BT issues might be resolved?
