Root [ROM] ApeX V1.0 for Droid X - An AOSP Experience (10/20/10)

I started a thread just for this question, because I am always seeing people ask this and it isn't very easy to find on the Moto site. Follow the link below.

You ROCK! Thanks.

Just installed the "new" drivers from your link. They installed very quickly, which leads me to believe I already had them. When I set it to PC Mode I get no response from the comp. When I put it in Media Sync mode I get the installing drivers window which results in the following. Ideas?

Check to make sure you have USB Debugging turned off. Then reconnect the phone and run through all the different USB modes. They should all load correctly...takes a little bit though. Make sure each one finishes before changed to the next mode. After they all install correctly you can then, while the phone is still connected to PC, turn USB Debugging back on. The PC should install the remaining ADB drivers. Please note that I still cannot get my Windows Media option to load correctly, but everything else does. I hope this fixes your problem.

Is there any fix that I have missed that would allow sending and receiving pics in handcent and also uploading pics to facebook through the quick share?

Well I've tried disabling USB debugging, loading all available moto drivers, rebooting comp and device, and letting it sit in each USB mode for 10 min or more and I still can't get it to connect properly in PC Mode or Media Sync. I'm at a loss for new ideas. Dang.

I guess I should point out I don't care about the USB PC or Media Sync interface modes as much as I like the ease of having it prompt me to convert video files so they're formatted properly (including audio sync, which seems to be a common issue) for the X. If you guys can recommend an alternative way to effectively move a 500mb HDTV show file onto my X while reducing the file size (not mandatory but nice) AND keeping the audio sync correct I'd be all for it. Help out this newbie! :)

Quick (and probably stupid question) about this ROM and the Tranq launcher. Why is it so slow moving between screens and opening the app drawer? I even set the settings for animations and such to fast in spare parts and its still slow. Is something wrong?

I use LPP which is super fast, but I'm curious about this now.

Thanks all.

Did a Titanium Backup and restored everything after installing this awesome rom but for whatever reason google sky maps won't come back. Tried installing it from the market but it only downloads, installation is unsuccessful. Oddly enough only one other seemingly random app has this problem (World Newspapers) and it also will download from the market but installs unsuccessfully. Can someone please tell me what I'm missing here?

Hey Fab, it's been asked multiple times and I haven't seen an answer, but is there a donate link anywhere? ApeX is literally all I use (I've tried Fission and Tranquility) because it's so close to perfection you can taste it.

I don't have much (payday is soon!) but I would gladly toss a little your way.

Not sure... I restored mine using Titanium without an issue. Just to be sure, I just loaded the app to make sure it was working properly. No problems here.

Convert to iPhone/iPod format and adjust resolution higher for your device. Save as a .mp4. I've gotten BD rips down from 8GB to a very portable 700mb doing this.

I've been having lockup/reboot issues with my current setup (2.3.15 leak, ApeX RC1, then V1 on top without wiping. Looks like I'm going to have to wipe tonight and start over. Would I be better off flashing the SBF or just going back to my fresh 2.3.15 leak? Is the new bootloader/kernal better? (Has no correlation been found between limited overclock-ability and the OTA? I tried the 1.38Ghz .zip that was posted yesterday and my phone went all turtle-y on me.)

I'm not sure if there is a correlation, but if you're going to start with a clean slate, doesn't hurt to get the newest kernel/radio. You may want to just turn off overclocking or use a modified setscaling.sh file though first, before you try wiping (you may be disappointed if your phone doesn't clock any higher!)

After turning off the overclocking in ApeX, my phone ran great. I ran it that way for a few days and then decided to try out JRummy's overclock app to see if there was any difference. Sure enough, my phone runs well at 1.2Ghz on stock voltages with the app. If anybody else is having problems with the stock OC, try one of the apps before you consider your DX a dud.

Hmmmm, Interesting, I may have to try this. Mine will not run with the Apex OCing for more than 3 minutes after opening some apps like Angry Birds, Quadrant and others that are processor heavy. I don't know if I understand the benefits/drawbacks of overclocking enough to keep messing with it, Apex runs so nice without it on. I guess I've got some more research to do.

Fab's overclock settings did not work for me either. I tried customizing setscaling.sh, and was pretty stable running 1.1Ghz at 62 volts, but still experienced some reboots. With JRummy's app I've been running 1.3Ghz at medium voltage all morning. Quad score is 1600+, battery life is good.

I'm thinking many of us who think our DXs are duds because we can't OC above 1.1Ghz are actually being too gentle with our voltages. I suggest using JRummy's app at medium voltage to see how fast you can run, then easing the voltages back from there if you want to tweak. Take a look at the voltages JRummy is using at his medium setting:

Fab, Would you consider adding a "medium" option to the ApeX OC scripts based on these voltages that seem to work for some of us who haven't been successful with the existing options?

Anyone having 3g problems on this rom? I'll have 3g where I normally will but once I initiate something that uses it like the browser or marketplace, it switches to 1x and it won't go back. Any suggestions?

Angry Birds was killin my DX at the ApeX OC as well. I'm running LV @ 1.2ghz via the app and hittin about 1560 on quadrant. I tried running ultra LV but that wasn't stable for me. Each processor is a little different so it takes some fiddling with. :)

I'm using ApeX and REVOlution.

So far, I'd have to say it would be my #1 Rom and Theme, inching past Black Glass X. :D

The only trouble I've had is that the font pack messed up my Dolphin Auto-resizing and there ws no "degrees" symbol for my weather.com app and widget, so I got a funny looking s. I went back to stock font and the problems went away.

All-in-all, this thing is fast. I restored all my (120 plus) apps and it's still fast (of course, I have many of them frozen, so I can get speed.) I also have autokiller set at an aggressive setting. The boot is just about as fast or faster than anything out there. Only 15 or so seconds from the animated boot to homescreen. (Of course my BW, LPP and Launcher-X slow things down a bit, but that has nothing to do with the rom ;))

I recommend this software highly. It's fast. It's stable and the Dev is approachable.

Good job, Fab.

Steven

Awesome program that I use whenever I pull down a big HD movie and want to convert to a resolution and file size that makes sense for the X. I've found it takes quite a while though, so I got accustomed to letting the moto interface convert files for me when I move them. Oh well, sounds like I need to get familiar with Handbrake again.

Do you know if I can setup a batch of file conversions with Handbrake?
