Root [ROM] ApeX 1.2 Series for Droid X - Functionality and Performance (12/7/10)

Yeah, you're good to go. I guess the instructions should say uninstall updates for those two apps if you can :D

Gonna port over some more themes for ApeX. NexTheme is next. Also, probably gonna get the inverted AOSP theme. Any other requests, I'll try to get the most popular ones ported over for ApeX users ;)

ApeX is great because of the wide variety of choice it offers the user in terms of which apps they want (i.e AOSP vs Blur) and makes it convenient to easily switch between them. But if you're already all set up and have all the apps you want with TranQ, then it might not be worth the hassle of redoing your entire set up :)

Thanks for the fast, honest response as always!!

Last question - these themes that are ported over to ApeX 1.2.x - can they be directly applied to TranQ 3.5, since the same base OS is used? Or are there some behind the scenes changes that can lead to big problems?

PS. I think TranQ 3.5 uses the inverted AOSP theme by default - correct?

Is anyone else experiencing problems using the Google Voice commands? When you hold down the Search button, it brings up a voice command prompt, and ANY name I feed it for a text message, it doesn't recognize.

"Send text to SHAMROCK" Comes out as a new text message with no one in the To field and whatever text it thought it heard in the message field. Incidentally, it doesn't work when I try to make phone calls either. "Call Debbie" Google searches for something named Debbie in my vicinity and calls that instead of my MOM. Haha. Once again, I don't know if this is the ROM causing it or what. :(

This is such a huge problem for me as I used to use voice search for almost everything. Is anyone else even experiencing this? It's as though it cannot see my contacts.

I'm actually having the same issues and it worked fine prior to updating the Apex 1.2. When I say "send text to Jamie...blah blah blah." The To field is blank and the "To Jamie" ends up in the message field along with the rest of the message.

Incidentally, that's the first name I tried, and it didn't work. :p However, I tried many after, and it still didn't work.

I'm glad to see you're also experiencing the issue. I tried the application on my mom's Incredible when I got home and it worked perfectly the first try so it has to do with Apex 1.2 and the contact book is what I'm thinking.

I didn't experience this on the previous version of Apex so I'm wondering if there is something the application is calling for that the contact book doesn't have and isn't replying to. I wonder if we use the other contact list.. hmm..

Does not work for me either and I'm on ApeX 1.0. So dunno what to tell you. But its pretty much never worked for me.

I use it quite a bit but just haven't yet since installing the newest Apex.

Wow strange. But yeah, its never worked for me. I think it has something to do with ROM's? Does not work on ApeX or Fission for me.

But it behaves like its doing for you. Send text to contact X. The contacts shows up in the message field and not the to field.

Mine worked perfectly on the first version of APEX. I don't think I ever had a problem with it. However, come to this, and it won't even get my contacts at all. It works perfectly otherwise. The only problem is, it doesn't know who my contacts are at all.

Not sure what to say man. I just tested it out again with ApeX 1.0 and it still does not work. But it never did anyway.

P.S. Is it worth upgrading to the new ApeX?

whoa, google voice commands work for me, every time. I must've included the midwestern accent version ;)

Then I don't understand what's going on here. It refuses to add anyone from contacts. It's not as though I'm telling it to add someone from Facebook. These are my Google contacts that have worked perfectly before. What should we do Fab? Didn't you mention something about a different contact book before? Is there a way to install a different version of it and try that out instead?

I can also confirm that this doesnt work right for text messages on 1.0.2.1 with the added blurcontacts.apk fix. for me at least.
I never used it to begin with so its not a huge deal for me though.

Maybe uninstall Google Voice Search and re-install it???

Can't as it's baked into the ROM. That was going to be my first thing to try. I also tried restarting the phone, force stopping the application, clearing the app's data, but none of those worked.

I have the same problem with Moto-Torch LED...can't update it and can't uninstall it from the market page.
But I can uninstall it via Ti Backup and install the updated version from the market. Maybe try that with the GVS?

Anyone having camera issues? When I take a pic the pic will be blank in the gallery. Other then that great rom so far

Nope. Still doesn't work properly. There has to be some fix for this, Fab.

Ok, so people with this problem, are you on 1.0.2.2? It might be looking for the 2.2.1 contacts app, which is why it isn't seeing your actual contacts?

Please try uninstalling the google search I included and downloading straight from the market. In terminal emulator:

su
uninstall GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk

Then install from market. Does that fix it?

I'm on 1.0.2.2, and I tried what you suggested, however, it doesn't work either.
