Root [ROM] ApeX 1.2 Series for Droid X - Functionality and Performance (12/7/10)

Nooooooooooo! Steven!!! That's a recovery only file, not the system :D

I know. I figured that out and deleted my post. Good thing you're young. Had I gotten that upset, I woulda given m'self a stroke! ;) ! ;)

Yeah Gmail FC probably because that theme was using an older version.

As for just using the bar mod, it'll still kill the animations, as they're stored in the framework-res.apk file.

COOL.

edit...nvm. forgot to apply oc settings. i fix my own problem. thanks.

I've bricked before, but when would you use a system only vs a recovery only sbf?

I have bricked many many times myself. When you mess up the system the device will turn on and you will see the Moto logo but thats as far as it will go. Thats when you would use the System SBF.

I have never ever had to use a Recovery SBF but that is supposed to be when your Recovery partition is damaged and you cannot boot to clockwork or the stock recovery.

Well Put
Nice Definition :)

Kind of a random Question but since ADW is built in, in this ROM ,,, what happened if I accidentally put an app in the app drawer possition, how do I get back my app drawer , any one knows?, am I missing some setting in ADW? :(

Yes! It's really easy as I had this problem too! Hold your finger on any empty space on any home screen, then go to add a custom shortcut, then proceed to pick your activity, then choose launcher actions and select "open/close app drawer", and viola! :D

Also, to Fab, I had an awful experience earlier. I don't know what caused it or why it happened, but it wasn't as bad as I'm making it sound out to be.

Anyway, I wanted to pull some data from my old install so I backed up my newest install of 1.0.2.2 or whatever you call it (:p), then I reinstalled my other back up...

But the problem was, it wouldn't boot up. It sat in a boot loop for 15 minutes so I said screw it and installed the back up I had. However, when I did back it up, NOTHING was saved. No app data, no screens, nothing. It just basically flashed the new ROM again without me activating the phone which made absolutely no sense to me. So I had to go back into clockwork and just completely reinstall the ROM and start completely over.

I didn't understand it at all, but it's back and I'm alright now. I just wanted to let you know what happened. Obviously I have no idea if it was the ROM that caused it or just a freak accident, but that's just to let you know.

Other than that, this ROM is amazing. I'm in love with everything that you've done. It's SO damn fast compared to the old Apex install with Launcher Pro I had running. I've come to realize that Launcher Pro gets bogged down SO quickly and just runs terribly after a while.

Thanks for this awesome ROM! :D

Hold screen like you're going to put on a widget. Choose Custom Shortcut, then Pick Activity, then Launcher Actions, then Open/Close App Drawer. That puts the icon on the screen. From there, just drag it to the dock to the position you want it at.

Got everything back up and working. Flashed the system SBF and restored everything. Now running ApeX 1.2.1 @ 1.4 Ghz With LauncherPro and running great. Thanks Fab and Justin for the help. ;)

Thank U Very Mucho !!!! But I Panicked ,LOL and installed Launcher Pro already , but if I get sick of LP, and I probably will, now I know what to do, thanks Again :D

So... Say I am changing a file in the framework res working on a theme and screw something up and get caught in a boot loop. Would running the System SBF fix that?
That's one thing I am afraid of since I'm always messing around customizing themes to my liking and that has happened a couple of times. If all it would take is to run the System SBF to be back to running again I may have to give in and try this. I love Apex 1 and want to try this ROM, but that's the one thing holding me back right now.

There are more qualified people to answer that but as I understand it if it is looping from the boot animation that means there is incompatible data. Wipe data/cache and reboot should be fine.

I would only flash the system SBF if Data/Cache wipe didn't fix it and I would under no circumstances flash the Recovery only SBF unless you are 100% positive that your recovery is broken.

Thanks for the info. That makes me fell much better. Might have to give this a go now.

I have a question regarding retrieving application data from a back up..... Well, is it possible? I'm not going to risk losing this set up and have to do it again, and I didn't get a chance to back anything up so is it possible to go into the back up and get the data for certain applications?

Does anyone know?

Does the Revolution theme work with this update?
I wanna know before I install it through ROM Manager.

I've just updated REVOlution for the 1.2 series. It's now available in the first post:

Install the same way as the ROM, don't wipe data or cache!

Thank you, Fab! I just installed 1.022 and was missing my REVO. I feel whole again! (Steven does the happy dance!)

EDIT:

BRAVO, Fab! Well done! I'm on 1.022 with REVOlution, and asop gallery. I love the upgrade. Well done. I'm going to fiddle some more with the settings using terminal emulator, tomorrow. i am very, very pleased.

I think, for me, considering this is my business phone, and all, and for newbies, I think the 1.022 is the way to go until we get a full sbf. I'm very, very happy.

I noticed the Revo theme didn't change a few things like it did before (keyboard, browser, menus). Is there a semi-easy way to do this myself? Also have a hard time reading the white on gray writing at times, any way to change that? Rom is running great Fab, thanks for all your hard work!

Partial noob here. I would love to try this ROM, but have been hesitant about pulling the trigger. I have Titanium Backup, the Bootstrap recovery and I know how to do a nandroid backup. It looks like the only thing I need to worry about is if I brick my phone, I would need the system only sbf? Am I on the right track?
