Root Coming Soon: Full 2.3.320 SBF file!!

new kernel with media and wifi updates. i did it last night and then loaded ApeX 1.2 over it with no issues.

By media do you mean the media player?

I know I've had issues with the media player not playing songs and other media files correctly.

What about wifi? I don't use wifi much but you have me intrigued here tom.

from what i understand they did a media overhaul not sure of the details. and the wifi update is said to have a better connection and not drop off.

Is anyone afraid that updating is going to take you off of the official Verizon/Moto OTA path since we're never going to be able to downgrade to 2.3.15 and update?

I'm wondering the same thing. But if this is an official untouched file straight from Verizon/Moto then I don't think we would have to worry. I'm sure someone will know.

I would not worry about. Once you step into the dark side (or root side) who cares at that point?

There will be other ROM's cooked up based on the forthcoming OTA I would think. You are now just one step ahead of everyone else running the 2.3.15 OTA.

What does the sbf have that the update.zip don't again?

I didn't do the sbf yet just the update.zip, so I should do the sbf to get everything to the latest?

On BL 30.04.

We don't know that. Is this final? Or a release candidate? Worse yet, just a beta release?

There might be a newer version coming out after this, especially if a bug is discovered.

I'm running the Blurry rom, which already has the 2.2.1 system files. I'll wait for the OTA to update the bootloader.

Nothing. If you already did the update.zip then there is nothing more the SBF can offer you. It is merely a safety net should you have an problems flashing ROMs in the future.

No problems rooting here. Try this for me, make sure your phone has USB debugging enabled and the phone is NOT plugged into your PC and run Z4Root. Give it a few minutes and if it doesn't work, reboot and run it again. That should do it.

EDIT: All I ask is that you please give us an update to either retract or validate your previous statement ;)

Thanks for the hook up man. Puff, puff, give.
Sorry it took so long for the reply.
I had to uncheck USB debugging, reboot phone, then check it again. I ran temporary root first, just to see if I would have any issues, then I permanently rooted. It worked like a charm.

You saved my life, thanks!

Maybe you should have this method "Stickied" as I can't be the only one who will come across this.

The update.zip updates the bootloader, but the SBF doesn't.

Also, doesn't the SBF have newer system files (higher revision number) than the update.zip?

No problem buddy. Welcome to the forums and we hope you enjoy your stay. :) I should also mention that Z4 never worked for me until Steven58 walked me through disconnecting from my laptop, rebooting and then running the exploit. Thank Steven too!

Yes, the update.zip updates the bootloader which is what he already did so the SBF would have no effect in that regard. So I am not sure if you were disagreeing with me or just echoing my statement. Sorry if I misunderstood you :)

The SBF is the same system as the update.zip they are both 2.3.32 (.320 )

Ok guys I need your help! I downloaded the new full sbf. whats the best way to install to my phone, I install by turning off phone and going in to bootloader and install the sbf that way, is this ok? and then maybe do a factory reset after to make sure im clean? will I lose titanium backup that has all my backups? or should I do something else to keep my backups? I mean I can pretty much get everything back, just worried about z4root so I can at least get back to root!

For anybody concerned about updating and being stuck, TBH has always taken care of us and they will continue to do so. Support your DEVS so in return they support us! ;)

Here is a statement from P3 earlier this morning, edited for non relevant content.

P3Droid said:
......never have we said that this is the next official, as that information is unknown.

But no one will be stuck without the abiity to be on the official firmware, that is what has been said. That may or may not include a way back to take the official update zip. Having said that I reiterate that NOONE will be stuck at 2.3.320, unless they chose to, and everyone who has taken this update will be able to (through some method) upgrade or move to the offical firmware version released by Verizon.

put the z3root apk on your sd card so you can install it after you sbf to get root. but before you flash the sbf what is your current bootloader?

You don't have to but I always manually boot into bootloader to initiate the install. Just have RSDlite running, manually boot into booloader and plug the device in.

I aways factory reset after as well, although you don't have to. You will loose all your apps if you factory reset but your TB backups are stored safely on the sdcard. Use Z4Root posted in this thread to root your phone and then download Titanium and restore your apps+data ( do not restore any system apps or data )

Is it cool to restore apps+data with TIBU going from 2.3.15 to the new leak after you SBF?

Also, I would be going from ApeX 1.0 to ApeX 1.2.

im on bootloader 30.03. so do I have to go to that link now to get z4root? I mean I wont be able to get it if a factory reset and it is in my titanium backup right?

Your bootloader is fine.

Z4 root will be on your SD card if you've downloaded it already. You can install Astro or whatever other file manager you are using and install it with that after you SBF and factory restore.

Factory restore does not delete the content of your SD card.

What I would do is dl Z4 root to the root of your SD card.

SBF
Factory reset
Activate phone
Install Astro
Use Astro to install the Z4 root apk.
Run Z4 root. It will reboot your phone.
You now have root!
Install TIBU and restore apps+ data.

If Ive missed something or this is a quicker way, please let him know.

Also if I get back into titanium backup should I delete the old system backups and just keep the apps running the new update?

Thanks that makes it easy, and I like easy!!

You may want to just to avoid any mistakes which may cause a conflict. That's just me though.

Better safe than sorry. Others I'm sure will reply.

I'm with trooper. Out with the old and in with the new :D. You definitely don't want to take any chances with restoring system files so be sure to delete the old ones to prevent any mistakes.

If your not sure how to do it I would restore just the apps and data that you want and then delete all backups in TB, bottom batch option. After that you can create a new clean backup of your current set up.

Its fine. I did just that. Launcher x gave me trouble so I had to reinstall it. It was the only compatibility issue I had. It's fine, now.
