[RELEASED] The 4.3 inch "Thunderbolt" aka "Mecha" aka "Incredible HD" from HTC...beyond coming soon!

I wouldn't have a problem if they released an LTE phone but didn't have LTE available . In fact I could really care less if the phone is LTE at all , I'm perfectly fine with my combination of 3g and wifi

exactly. Lte wont even be useful to the majority for a loooong time. There will be a whole slew of slew devices by then.

goathog02 and XXXdc5 - take it easy.

That being said, I just bought my daughter an iPhone 4 I opted to BUY a HTC INC on my dime, but she choose an iPhone. She had to switch from VZW to ATT, in which I paid the fee to cancel VZW, she used her own money to buy the iPhone. To each their own.

Okay...when did we get off topic here? Let's agree that we (for the most part) prefer Android to IOS. I hardly believe that liking Android more makes the iPhone a feminine device.

[Steering derailed train back on track...]

Miami has posted some updates on DF and this is the basic synopsis as I see it...

He has been told that the Merge is expected "any day" and a 3G version of the HTC Droid Incredible HD (which looks to be named "HTC Droid Mecha") still has a 3G version possible by the end of the year. 3G version in December, 4G version in Q2 of 2011.

This can only to be "confirmed" by Verizon. EVERYTHING is speculative until then! But for the second time Miami has said that if you want the Mecha, get the Droid X now (due to the 30 day period you have to return the device and get something new for a $35 restocking fee). Now, I tend to believe that he feels strongly about a December release otherwise people that get "stuck" with a Droid X would all be upset with him.

Will I get the Droid X while waiting for the Mecha? Not unless My wife and I decide to give our kids the D1's we are sporting as a part of their Christmas gifts. To do that...I have to be able to give my wife the HTC Merge (she needs a keyboard and I don't want to hear her complaints about typing on a touch only device :D). I believe that we will have a few new choices in January so I wouldn't make the switch to the Droid X until later this month just in case. If I got stuck with the Droid X...I'd live but I'd rather not as the camera hump is honestly my biggest complaint with the Droid X. Can't change that with custom ROMs, OCing, etc.

Happy speculating! Keep on topic though...

I wonder if the 3G version and LTE version will be equipped differently- seems rather odd to launch a 3G version and then 4-6 months later launch an LTE version, where the only difference is the capability of using the LTE signal. I'm going to stick with my Evo and hold out for the LTE version and see what its all about. I'd kick myself if I jumped on the 3G and then 4 months later a better equipped LTE capable version of the same phone came out.

You and me both! I'm still not 100% sure we will see a 3G version at all. If they release a single core, 3G device...perhaps the 4G version will sport a dual core processor??? Hard telling at this point.

If this devices drops in December I will be all over it. If it doesn't drop in December (or if the 3G version doesn't drop at all) then I could see myself waiting until the end of January or even into February to see what the first "next gen" devices will look like. I've been holding off on a new upgrade for well over a month now and I'm losing will power. The Droid X is looking better to me all the time but I know that is not the phone I "really" want.

4G will bring increased data costs so a lot of people are hoping for a 3G version of this phone. I am on WiFi most of the time (only use 1-2 GB's of "Verizon's" bandwidth per month) so 4G isn't as big of a deal to me as it will be to some people.

I find it highly unlikely that they're going to release 2 different phones with the same name. Just seems ridiculous

I'm sure if they did there would be some sort of minor change to the name. It's not unheard of and has just happened with the Droid 2 and the Droid 2 Global.

I'm not saying that this will definitely be the case but the major differences to the Droid 2 devices were adding the global SIM card and beefing up the processor a touch. Adding LTE capabilities would be the same kind of thing.

Droid 2 and global are different. the droid(1) came out year(s) ago or whatever but we are talking about 4 months here for 2 phones with the same name and completely different internals?? Way too far fetched. A model with and without lte is understandable (though annoying) but i highly doubt there would be a completely different processor and all the coding that goes with that in 4 months. It would be a different phone all together. Doesn't really make sense for what we are talking about here.

The droid 2 didnt come out years ago it came out a few weeks before the droid 2 global. Nobody was talking about the og droid

I wasn't addressing you that's probably why you aren't following what i'm saying.

read up. I was talking about the length of time between the release of the droid ONE and the droid 2 and then the 2nd version of the droid 2

All I was saying was that Motorola released the Droid 2 and the Droid 2 global (two "different" phones) within a couple of months.

The only "big" difference is that the Droid 2 global had radio enhancements that allowed for the use of GSM networks outside the US...making it a world phone.

What would be so different about a HTC Mecha being released in December 2010 and then the HTC Mecha 4G being released several months later (perhaps into Q2 of 2011)?

Not really far fetched. 5-6 months in between releases would still be a much longer gap than the Droid 2 and Droid 2 Global.

I never made referenced to the Droid 1 in my previous comment. The Droid 2 was the clear successor to the Droid 1 (10 months after release of the Droid 1).

no no i know what you're saying. Its understandable to release a phone with 1 type radio and then release the same phone with a different radio a while later (the 2 types of droid 2s)

What I meant is that it would be kinda far fetched to change MORE than just that and STILL call it the same phone over the span of 4 months:

mecha 3G 1ghz snapdragon(or whatever model name)

then

mech 4G LTE 1.xghz tegra 2 processor(or whatever)

I just referenced the og Droid1 because I was saying that it is understandable that there are so many differences in the newer droid 2 and the old one BECAUSE it has been so long that the 1 has been out. ya know..

holy crap this is getting confusing LOL

Who's on first? :D

Yeah, if they change the phone by a lot then it would most likely get a new name. But who knows? Phone releases are one of the strangest things about the three big carriers. Expect the unexpected!

I'm hoping for a 3G release of this phone but still not willing to put any money on it. Maybe the "Mecha" is the 3G version and the "HTC Droid Incredible HD" is the 4G version?

Only time will tell. Look at the iPhone for Verizon. It has been rumored to be coming to that carrier for several years now. Maybe in January it will actually happen but it's still just speculation until it's announced.

OOOOOmg. yeah that would be some ish now wouldnt it.

At this point i dont even care i'll accept whatever specs they FINALLY decide to throw at us LOL i would just like them to be released already haha

Does Verizon do the whole "grandfathered in for Unlimited data" like ATT did? That's part of what would decide if I got this phone or not.

for 3g plans yes, but no one knows about the LTE plans yet. Normally if you "change" plans you lose all grandfathered rights. So if you update to an LTE plan, its a new plan and grandfathering wouldnt apply. We will see though

Yeah...I don't know that will be the case. At this point I'm betting on a release in March...known as the "HTC Osmosis" with search powered by Lycos instead of Google or Bing!

jesus it only gets worse doesnt it -_____-

i'll just wish for a christmas miracle :) lol -___-

I don't care if it has LTE either. ESPECIALLY if they're gonna do away with unlimited internet and go with tiered pricing with LTE (speculation). If so, I'd rather keep it on 3G and not worry about going over on internet. AND at 4G speeds, it won't take long to go over it!
